Anyone got tips for creating the plush with the pop armature and sculpted head/feet? I’m planning to make one as a gift, got all the supplies I think I need (armature and joints, batting, sculpey, fur, resin eyes) but wondering if there’s some useful advice out there.

I don't make plushies with sculpted heads/paws, but I do make them with polymer clay horns/claws/eyes/ect. I might be able to give you a little advice. What type of Sculpey are you using?

Uhhh not actually sure which kind exactly. It’s a large brick so I removed the wrapper and put it in a bag a while ago when I was making some tiny food. I know it’s one of the really basic ones sold in large packs though, and I have the softener liquid as well.

Thinking if I decide to keep making these I’ll try casting in resin but don’t have the space or money for mold making right now.

Just make sure it's not Sculpey III, that shit shatters to pieces if you look at it wrong. Also, make sure to use aluminum foil and wire as a core. How much experience do you have making plushies? What kinda critter are you gonna make?

Here's an excerpt from my Phascomon pattern that might be helpful for your project.
(I really should have marked the right/wrong sides of the fabric on this diagram. 4 and 5 are wrong side out, 6 and 7 are right side out.)
I like sculpting a flange onto the base of the clay part. Then I secure the inside out plush part with upholstery thread, and turn the fabric right side out. Nice and secure without the headache of gluing fabric.

I still have a lot of plushes from my childhood, but they've all been piled on a shelf at the very top of my closet for 15 years or something. I don't even remember what they all are, exactly.
I want to take them out just to see what they are, but I'm afraid they'll be super dusty or covered in cobwebs and spider eggs and stuff.
If anyone knows any good way to clean old plushes that haven't been touched in a long time, feel free to post it.

First off take them outside and give them a good shake to get the larger part of the dust off. Then check the tags if they still have them for care instructions. Most modern plushies can safely take a trip tgrought the washing machine on delicate in a delicates bag/ pillow case.

I use woolite delicates (pic related) to clean all my thrift store plushies. Works great and doesn't leave them with a strong fragrance, just nice and clean.

Lastly after they've taken a spin in the washer pop them in the dryer (still in the delicates bag) on cool or low warm for however long it takes to dry them. Do not dry them on any kind of quick dry setting as that might make them hot and soften/melt any plastic eyes or noses.

Also if anyone else is interesting in thrifting or restoring old plush I highly reccomend buying a set of delicates bags to wash things in. I know you can use a pillow case but drying on a pillow case takes forever and
a good set like pic related are only $11 -12 on amazon.

Not that anon but do you have any advice on how to whiten embroidery? I finally found my grail plush but it seems like the whites of its eyes have yellowed a bit from storage/age. This type of plush can only be surface washed.

Unless it can be washed I don't have much advise for you. You could make a paste out of oxiclean and a bit of water and apply it carefully to the embroidery then try to carefully wipe it off after its set a bit but that's risky.

If the item has actual big money value you could have it professionally restored but otherwise id leave it as is.

He's a yale (the creature the college was named after.) Charlie Bears did a Queen's Beasts series, with different heraldic animals. Another anon posted the griffin, which I was looking for, but I found the yale, and completely fell in love with him.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll look into getting that woolite and some delicate bags. For the time being, I might also try vacuuming to get rid of some of the surface dust. I’ve heard that can be helpful.

Vacuuming can definitely help. If any of them are really delicate you can rubber band pantyhose over the end of the vacume hose to make sure nothing gets sucked off them or damaged.

Now this is my kind of general! Thought I'd share this plush. I won it from a UFO catcher in Japan in 2016. Its from Final Fantasy, though I don't play the games so I didn't know what it was at first.

What makes it special is the material it is filled with. This is softest, most plush toy I've ever come across. It is softer than the 'mochi' style plushes out there. I have no clue what its made with but I highly recommend getting one of these if they are still around to purchase anywhere online. You won't be disappointed!!

I did that first, but I did the wrong kind of stitch and it ended up looking wonky as hell so I had to do a blanket stitch in the outside so hed actually stay together.

I just got one a few weeks ago, I was surprised by how much I like it. I got Mocha because he was a little cheaper than Pudding and the eyelashes didn't really matter to me. I really wanted the outfit in the picture too, but I just couldn't get myself to pay $70+ to import a teddy bear dress right now. Maybe someday when shipping goes back to normal.

It's a big piece that requires a full fill--no outline work. I don't have any recent pictures, but the entire left side of the rays, from the angel to the moon, and a bit of the background are now done. There's a banner behind the crown that's done, and I've started on the right side rays. I only work on it in my spare time, and I don't have a lot of that. I've used a ton of different threads, like regular sewing thread, cotton embroidery floss, rayon and silk flosses, metallic threads (mostly gold, but silver in the moon that doesn't show up well in the photo). Takes time.

This is my childhood teddy bear. He never had a name, he's just the Knickerbocker bear. My grandma bought him in NY in 1964, so he's an antique now. Lots of repairs over the years. He's mohair, velveteen, and stuffed with excelsior.

These are the ones I’ve amassed over the festive season. Told myself I need to stop but a local bargain shop had the big care bear, then the smaller ones, then the pushewn plush were reduced to a £4 each. Same with brown bear.
Tokidoki was a tenner so couldn’t resist.
The amuse lot were my official to self gift though. And I do want to get the other dragons I’d they ever restock

Ps. Got the squisables moths coming too. Duck it. It’s been a miserable year there no real reason to not buy things that make me happy

also no, that's not him. right look, but the particulars are off (too big, too light). I remember the name "cookie" being very prominent on the tag. not 100% that he was Gund; the mid 80s were a while off. thanks a lot though. this quest has bedeviled me for a long time.
