Does anyone have any experience writing instructions? I'm trying to make instructions for a gift and I wanted to know if there were any "rules" involved. For example, how many pieces per step? How often should you change the orientation of the camera? Tips like that.

Depends a lot on who the instructions are for. lego instructions are going to err on the side of too many small steps because they want to be accessible for kids.

It's for two 30 year olds that haven't messed with lego since they were kids, so smart enough but without much experience. For example, in this step, there's a gold pin that's on top of a jumper. Should I keep the jumper and the pin on separate steps? The space conscious thing to do would be a callout, but I don't know if callouts make sense for 2 pieces.

I would just look at modern lego
When I was a kid I remember there being a lot of "Spot the difference" between instruction steps to figure out what to add, these days they tell you precisely what parts to add in each step so it's easy enough to see where the new parts are, plus sometimes they add arrow guidelines for pieces in obscured corners
Turning the model only happens when the added parts aren't clearly visible from the current angle

i think the new roadplates are good and i think AFOLs who are really mad about this should understand that lego city is geared for kids and that these provide good infrastructure to build off of

I honestly think they're way much better than the old ones since that they're infinitely much more modular than the old ones. And they can be easily be used for other kinds of builds that require large flat surfaces. The old plates can only do one thing and that's just only for one specific purpose, compared to these new modular roads.

I always felt the same about city as a kid. Like who wants to be a firefighter when you can be a space robot pilot. I did have those car rugs which I loved, so I imagine it's the same appeal.

I ordered this for about 70 bucks but more so because the remote, engine and transformer are like 90 bucks apart and this includes all of that plus a train, did I do good?

The license cut got even bigger and/or lego is being greedier.
There aren't any new molds either, no way a couple of different prints or inflation accounts for a 60% price increase in three years.

Just order the individual pieces you want from Lego.com as "replacement bricks." It's how I managed to get all the Monkie Kid minifigs I wanted without buying any of the (overpriced) sets. And I'll likely do the same thing here; especially since I could use an army of ghosts.

If parts are out of stock, they show up but the 'add to list' or whatever button is greyed out. Those hairpieces among other things like Monkey King's headgear don't show up at all, like those pieces aren't part of the bricks and pieces service for whatever reason

I was in my dark age when the original release of it came out. I played the hell out of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on the Xbox, and remembered the tank featured prominently. Had to get it for that nostalgia. Agree with the design. It's very aesthetic, and I like that mean mug face it has.

I fucking love these, the old road baseplates were awful especially with how LEGO tried to sell them (one straight road and either a corner OR a T-crossing). Not to mention that with how LEGO uses normal plates to support buildings the baseplates became a sore sight with the difference in height.

Republic tank is 305 parts for 24.99 comes to about 0.09 per part, at that pricing grievous ship should be about 40.00
Grievous ship is 487 parts for 79.99 at about 0.16 per part, the tank at that pricing is about 50.00
I know different parts and all but the pricing on lego sets is increasing year after year especially on license sets

I do wish I'd bought more troopers when they were the older style. I got the dropship pack this year so I could have some trooper on my little Hoth Diorama and I'm not wild about the way they look. I got one previous gen one with the Rouge One Y-Wing and that does look a lot nicer. It'd be really nice if there were a pack with a few snow troopers in, rather than having to buy those action pack things, or a whole-ass AT-AT. (which is a nice set, but nowhere near THAT nice that I'd buy a ton of them.)

Doing great. I do agree, the legs are too far apart. Do you have a picture of the back? A Pneumatic T-piece could help adjust the width while still being posable (which I assume is your goal). Then you can have the upper part of the legs on the outside, and the lower half on the inside.

I'm working on a tropical-style twist on Guarded Inn. I'm trying to keep the construction techniques period correct (although the colors obviously aren't), which is difficult given my super meager collection. I think the overhang on the roof is too far out.

We just got a nutcracker. So yes. Although! Nutcracker is number 112 and I believe Mando is 144 and the highest number yet. So I'd wager that the number is based on the order they were thought up. I built the battle pod for my gnome to live in, but now I have the play cubes. I built this little guard outpost. It has most of the necessities so far. I'd like him to be equipped for anything he might run into in the wild. The stove and barrel are great storage, and the barrel doubles as his table.

Then two Lamenters, one a champion and the other a sergeant with some bionics
Then two mechanicus adepts with their servitor bodyguards. Not entirely happy with them but I've got some extra parts coming for a dominus to boss them around, ought to be fun!

There’s a metal pin that goes from the neck pin. The head and any head gear aren’t glued together (though the hips are glued to the torso), they just have a whole bored through for the metal pin and they’re just sandwiched between the neck and keyring pieces. I bought a key chain before just for a head. Cut the metal top part off, slid a helmet with a hole off and then got the head. Can’t tell the difference with any hair or headgear on it.

No, I didn't realize you were using the same connection for the arms. Off the top of my head, you could try using a plate with a clip ring (4081b, I think?) under the clip tile, then have the pneumatic T for just the arms, and the ring for just the legs. Or you could try something like pic related. Both solutions would result in a hunched bag, however.

Some misguided people download Computer Aided Design programs that are based around Lego bricks.

Although seemingly helpful and convenient what these programs end up doing is hamstringing creativity to the limits of the program itself.

Idk there was a fantasy lego series, but I was far too young to actually appreciate it. If I were to design one, it would have to be moody and gritty, like how blacktron was to the normal space sets. Not too over the top edgy, but enough to have a nice atmosphere. Idk how to translate that to bricks sadly

It's certainly feasible to put together a convincing tercio with existing lego parts, though it won't be cheap I imagine. There's laso the unfortunate lack of a lego pike; the standard spears are too short, while the halberds aren't quite right. The old knight's lance could work in a pinch, though nothing can quite match an Unsullied spear.

PF uses infrared. The only thing which limits you is the size of the battery box and the range of infrared remote. You can run up to 8 distinct channels with the control remote. But it's also backwards compatible with 9V stuff and there is an extension wire to connect 9V to PF. You get maximum flexibility and a lot of accessories.

Powered up uses bluetooth and can't be connected to 9V and PF (completely new plug type). Yeah the range is greater than PF (doesn't matter in home setting anyway). Both systems have a LED part and both systems have the same integrated train motor assembly (advanced trainfags often want to put a technic motor inside the build and control the loco this way instead though).

From the trainfag perspective... PF system was superior because the speed control was way better. Some of the powered up motors only have an on/off setting, no speed steps. The choice of motors and battery boxes was vastly wider in PF as well.

The only advantage powered up has is that the bluetooth receiver is always inbuilt in the battery box ("hub") so that's one less thing to pack into your build.

It's difficult to judge but I'd say PF comes out on top in the end. Be aware though that the support for PF has ended a couple years ago so from this point on the prices will only go up. Similarly to how 9V trains with metal rails were cancelled in the mid 2000's. Obviously we don't know how long Lego sticks to powered up now. I'm not investing in a system that isn't backwards compatible though.

It can restrict the amount of oxygen you can intake or alternatively make you a mouth breather. Both of which can lead to health complications long term. It is a quick surgery and relatively cheap. Guys, I just bought 3 older lego sw sets (for ~80€) from a seller in a specified facebook group, he explicitly said there are no pieces missing, but 2 of the 3 sets had 2 missing pieces each. Nothing major or important but still, he said otherwise. Should I be an asshole about it and make him send some of my money back for misguiding me or just let it go? Got scammed once when I bought 2 minifigs, the quality is far worse than any Lego minifig, even the ones that are 20 years old. Arms and legs are more loose than any Lego I ever had, print quality is bad, the plastic is noticeably worse.

Is $220 a fair price for 75021 Republic Gunship? Built once, all pieces and all figures, instructions and box included. I’ve never had a Gunship before and they’re one of my favorite SW ships but they always came out at inconvenient times for me so I could never get one. I know a UCS one is coming out within the next 1.5 years most likely, but it most likely won’t be minifig scale and then the next minifig scale one could be a long way aways or not as good as this one.

That is in fact a good price anon. At least in the current year. I would say it is worth it. However there are many credible reports of a UCS version coming out in 2021 if you can hold out until then.

I got that sonnovabitch at a Walmart on clearance for only 50 bucks, though only because it initially rang at full price but the clerk matched it to the AT-TE walker which did ring up as clearance. I sure as shit wasn't going to argue. It's been years and I still never built the damn thing, or even opened the box. Every time I get more space I buy more Lego to fill it. It's a vicious cycle.

I’m the complete opposite. Not digging on you, you do you, no judgement at all, but I pass on a bunch of stuff I want now cause I can’t make myself drop lots of money on stuff very often, but whenever I do get something, I open and build it immediately. I’ve never been able to leave a set sealed for more than a few hours, cause if I’m spending the money to buy it, I want to build it and play around with it.
