>>8607529 >in my experience intricate paint tends to skyrocket price more than engineering Yep, this is why McFarlane started making his McStatues. Not even the bare minimum of articulation was given to them, so that he could put more money into the paint apps.
This is why his current lines aren't anywhere close ot being as nicely painted as his 00s stuff. Only the Color Tops Spawn came close and he was minimally articulated.
>>8607535 >we've been told for years by companies that tooling is the most expensive part of toy production Paint apps add up, like the other guy said. IT won't equal the cost of molds, but it can be the second costliest thing (maybe the packaging comes close).
Anyway, Hasbro definitely has never given any of their figures the budget that Toy Biz and even current McFarlane does, so its a rip off compared to them. Hasbro compared ot themselves, it's probably fair. Twice the price for something much bigger, that coulda been a baf and isn't a reuse(?).

>>8607734 You have to remember that the DC line was considered poison by retailers because of Mattel's failure at making a toyline of smoe of the most popular characters in the world.
So DC/WB is probably making McFarlane produce stuff from modern toys, because it's what's currently being pushed by their own media. They can't rely on nostalgifags to support a toyline like they can with Marvel Legends, which has been a success since 2013 or 2012.
McFarlane has to play it really safe considering Mattel's ineptness. He has to build confidence with retailers.
As a DC comic fan, I'm glad that McFarlane is at least doing comic book stuff. It's way better than the generic shit that Spinmasters is producing.
I don't even collect movie shit from the Marvel Legends line, because it's also generic shit, thanks to design by marketing research and test groups.
Also, Spinmasters is playing it safe too, considering their toys are aimed at younger children than MLs and McFarlane's stuff. The young children's toylines were one of Mattel's few DC lines that actually sold well, btw. This is why Mattel still has the rights to produce toddler DC figures.

>>8608139 >Marvel has always done a much better job with toys than DC ever did Not true in the 90s. Hasbro didn't buy Kenner just for Star wars, you know. Batman was huuuuge in the 90s.
Toy Biz's got big in the 90s because they made a partnership with the then-cheaper Marvel license and eventually bought Marvel. And they were able to push so much Marvel shit because they've never been as cheap as Mattel or Hasbro. Like McFarlane, they were able to give their toys a bigger budget and multiple toylines. But none of their lines netted them as much money as Kenner did with Batman and their various attempts with other DC characters.
This is why Hasbro was outbid for the DC license by Mattel, after Kenner's license expired. Mattel was the biggest toy company back then and was riding high on whatever girl shit that was popular at the time.
At least, from a company's perspective. They knew what sold best with kids and WB is probably pushing that with McFarlane and Spinmasters.
From a collectors/fans perspective, Toy Biz/Hasbro did better jobs, because of the variety of characters. Hasbro's choosing obscure comic characters is only because of their success of the ML line and movie toys.
But even that met disappointing sales after the switch from Toy Biz's ML line. Their line floundered because of the shit job compared to TB's, hence moving to 1:18 scale for about 4 or 5 years as their mainlines.

>>8608521 Yeah, it was retconned and re-retconned a bunch of times. Apparently there were two reasons- Marvel liked having Xorn as a separate character and were hoping Morrison wouldn't go through with the Magneto reveal, and because Morrison's Magneto went so insane at the end of that story that it was hard to reconcile with the more measured interpretation of him by writers like Claremont. They couldn't leave him dead and wanted to bring him back without having literal genocide on his record.
Incidentally this is basically the same thing that happened with Jean and the Phoenix, where she was originally supposed to be Jean but was retconned to be the Phoenix pretending to be Jean in order to bring Jean back to life and not have space genocide on her record. Like 90% of the fuckery with the Summers-Grey family tree can be traced in some way or another to this editorial decision.

>>8609283 Japan doesn’t have to appease retailers in the US. Hasbro doesn’t do made to order because it’s easier to make items as part of a case. It helps with importing, and with stocking their retail partners and the Pulse warehouse. Hasbro also would much rather make 20k units of something and sell 100% than make 43,251 units and sell 80% and have leftover stock. From a supply chain perspective, stock in the warehouse is losing money if it’s not selling or sold. Made to order opens them up to having to discount leftover stock.

Every year they release a "best of" wave internationally featuring MCU characters. They also released a bunch of popular figures repackaged for China. So they do rerelease figures, but these are all usually special cases, and happen within a relatively short window from the figures initial release. It makes more sense for hasbro to release a previous figure with minimal changes than to straight up re release an old one. It entices both people who missed the first release and people who got the first release but were unsatisfied with it or are more interested in the new version. For instance, the vintage iron man and captain America are pretty much straight upgrades from their previous versions. If the character you missed out on is popular enough, or scalped enough, it's likely to get a new and better version, even if they only have one costume.

I’ve been fascinated with the comics and the Eternals ever since I stumbled upon them in the Official Marvel Handbook back in the 80’s. As soon as I was able I tracked down as many of the comics as I could find. Despite being a Kirby product they were not all that expensive or difficult to obtain. Followed them through the years from Sersi joining the Avengers and Makkari racing Quasar, etc. All of the brief revivals and miniseries, always found something to love... but this movie is just so fucking boring looking! The designs, the toys, the casting! Boring, boring, boring.
You take a wacky concept straight from The King and turn it into this? ...and I thought the Thor movies lacked flair!
The toys though... garbage. The comics are so toyetic in design but we’re stuck with movie banality. Shame. I was still rooting for the movie to succeed because I wanted them to do a comic-inspired wave (or two) but there is so little buzz for this film.

No they tailor them to be friendly to ONLY China because its the only place with a population that has more potential revenue than the US, and honestly I think that's starting to stop being a thing as the more they cater to China the less it makes in the US and even China doesn't really like what they do to pander to them anymore. I mean the fellated the fuck out of China with the live action Mulan and that thing bombed hard everywhere, but especially in China.

Can we get a new thread without the obvious bait posts and discussion about movie theaters as a business model, as told by people who obviously don’t work in the industry?

>>8616267 What did these characters originally look like?
Anonymous
>>8616275 Beyond the designs the show itself was fucking awful and only made as part of Ike Perlmutter's pissing match with Fox in a desperate bid to try and push the Inhumans as replacements for the X-Men. A marketing push that's severely harmed their reputation in the eyes of the general public and comic readers, which seriously fucking sucks as someone who is actually a fan of the characters.
Anonymous
>>8616303 Yeah I always really liked them too. I would have been all on board with them getting a movie and a TV show and stuff. But to act like they could replace the X-men was just dumb.
Anonymous
>>8616353 Honestly I kinda enjoyed their books from the time to an extent, but christ was it obvious that they were trying to make them into something they weren't, especially when the overwhelming majority of new Inhuman characters were normal kids with elemental powers instead of the bizarre bio freaks and weird chimeras they're known for.

>>8616391 pleb fag here, what is the origin of these inhumans?

>>8616403 To add on to this eventually the Inhumans discovered a substance called Terrigen Mists that reacts with their whacky science experiment biology, coming out with a super power or evolved form. It's not always pretty and often results in awful outcomes, so their society deals heavily in eugenics and a class system. Shit gets dark and making them discount X-Men missed the point entirely.

>>8617055 Did we even get any decent toys of Garfield Spider? I think that was when we weren't getting Marvel Legends, and they were pushing for the 1:18 scale figures for the MCU.

Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan) was the only one of these new characters that gained any traction at all.

>>8617169 >Really would like a Mister Hyde and a new Dracula, more magic-based villains too. I'm willing to bet money that we will get a Mister Hyde within the next year or two. Both the Kingpin BaF and the Joe Fixit are good enough to make a Hyde from, I'd personally go with the Kingpin BaF if given the option. As for Dracula I think theres a chance he could happen. We haven't got much in terms of Marvel Monsters but we've gotten a few, Morbius, Blade, Man-Thing, fucking Shiklah. Dracula has a decent chance of getting made, but it would most likely be his Red Armor look, which I'd want more than his more Lugosi style of the Toybiz. We also need a Werewolf by Night and I don't get why we haven't. I mean they can just reuse Jackal with a few new parts, or they can go full balls to the wall and give us a big fucking werewolf using the Sasquatch and Wendigo BaF.

Weird question but does anyone know the best way to tighten up one of those ratcheting ab crunches on a Marvel Legends? I've been in the market for a Daredevil figure recently, pic related or the yellow first appearance version, but in my experience with the line the ab joints always tend to be floppy as fuck and I'm trying to avoid that.
Anonymous
>>8617216 Not really. The Super Glue/Floor Polisher wouldn't really work because the looseness in the torso is part of the assembly IN the lower torso and the space between the upper and lower torso on the Bucky Cap tends to have to big of a gap and they don't make contact with which the floor polish/glue trick to work.
