Because of the exaggerated head, you get a lot of detail in the expression in most cases, than you would get in a comparably priced statue or figma (though the latter gets you an anatomically faithful action figure). They're not exactly cheap, and some are quite expensive even at msrp. However, they're a good value. The barebones ones are reasonably priced, and some of the more expensive ones have a large amount of accessories. Even the most basic of nendoroids have some modicum of articulation, in addition to a stand and alternate limbs so one isn't nearly a limited as a scale figure.
