It's hard to speculate about this for me because I know 0 people with kids and never knew kids outside of my class when I was at school and as kid I preferred videogames so parents just gave me money for those instead.
But you are right, now thinking of it most random people, adults I mean, that buy figures and such also buy some random shit like dunno, some sheep or round whatever. The only exception are the nerds, be it anime fanatics or robot collectors. Still sad Hasbro didn't make use of that by establishing a sub-company that sells that shit. Ironically, among Transformers lore fans (cartoons, comics, games whatever) I mainly see Hasbro being brought up when they hate on them.
