This is a trial thread to discuss 5 POA (give or take a P) action figures, vintage and modern. So let's talk about figures from Chap Mei, Super 7and beyond.

Series 2 of Final Faction continues being teased on the official IG account. Final Faction is a line of action figures being sold exclusively at Dollar Tree. They are available now, but availability is spotty.

At 5 poa why not collect statues. Atleast they'd look good on your shelves. Anything bigger than lego's with 5 poa is just a waste of plastic.

What does the fact they don't belong on /toy/ have to do with my question? With "regular" action figures you can atleast put them in a variety of poses. You grab them of the shelve, mess around with them, might end up with some cool pics.

I am genuinly curious what the appeal is of 5poa figures. They look fuck ugly in most poses and beyond some nostalgia lines like MOTU I don't understand why people would buy them

This. 5POA are pretty much useless, they're fun and cool in a retro kind of way, but they should be considered that, a niche, not a "soul" alternative to modern toys, most modern toys have more soul than 5POA.

Excellent idea for a general, I prefer 5poa over the figuarts and figmas I started collecting back in the day. High-end import figures are awesome, but they've nearly doubled in price in recent years and shipping costs are crazy since covid. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this in january. Also have some super7 figures.

Figures with limited articulation can still have an appeal. I’m old, so growing up almost every line was five or six POA and it didn’t hamper the fun that was had with them. MotU, Star Wars, Super Powers, TMNT, Aliens, Robocop, Predator were all great lines with great sculpts and were awesome to play with.

As an adult, I definitely prefer more articulation, but I don’t always need it. If a line is going for that vintage feel, like Legends of Cthulhu or kaiju sofubi figures, then they’d look out of place with modern articulation.

There are also keshi figures, which have little to no articulation, but are still fun to collect and mess around with.

They resemble toys I grew up with, less room for detail produces a certain look I find appealing, and they feel sturdier than newer toys. I like the idea of them lasting a good long time maybe to give to my kids (if I'm lucky enough to have some) like my parents did for me. And I'm a toymaker myself, and creating appealing characters in such a simple and straightforward format inspires me in my own solo projects. Plus I've found other 3.75 scale star wars figures look weird and cheap rather than quaint and simple, but that's subjective of course.

I like playing with 3.75 inch figures the most and in the past few years the only figures in that scale have been 5POA. Ive learned to not mind it and i can still have fun playing with them

There is an element of nostalgia to them, but's a matter of durability for me. More points of articulation equals more points for failure. Most 5POA figures are also designed with little hands in mind, so I don't have to worry if my dipshit nephew comes to visit and gets his grubby mitts on them. I won't lie and say that I never wish for a swivel here or joint there when I'm messing around with them. Ironically, statueshit (with no points of articulation) is one giant point for failure.

I found a local Dollar Tree with Final Faction figures. The human figures are just what you'd expect of 5POA humans, but I didn't realize how big some of the aliens are. A lot of bang for your literal buck there.

The alien figures are far and away the standouts of the line. They've got interesting textures and details. The limbs have a sense of motion. The paint apps are minimal, but what paint they do have make the details of the sculpts pop.

The human figures on the other hand are kind of a letdown. The drybrushing looks cheap. The limbs are stiff and lack energy. Shift (the chick) suffers the worst in terms of paint apps and lack of motion. Shift's swords and Steel's jetpack are prone to warping. I know - only a dollar. It's just strange that they knock it out of the park with the villains, but fumble the heroes.

I think the only way you're going to make the heroes cool at all is sculpting them in interesting poses. they're not gonna get enough articulation to pose them, might as well just make them pre-posed in the first place.

Problem is pre-posed makes them a pain to fit into vehicles. And yes,this line does seem to have small vehicles. At the very least there is a small dune buggy.

Most newer statues come with more guns and option parts than figures. All of these parts are magnetised and can be easily swapped out.
(pic related is a prime one statue and nearly every single release by them does this).

I think a lot of people have a distaste for 5POA because their only exposure was when Hasbro replaced all of their well-articulated 3.75 toylines with poor quality 5POA figures a few years ago. They sold them for the same price to add insult to injury.

So I was goofing with the Final Faction figures, and I remembered that I bought a lot of like a hundred 1:18 scale weapons from AliExpress a long time ago. The lot looks to be a mix of recasts of Lanard Corps and GI Joe(?) weapons. Unfortunately, the majority of GI Joe-style weapons are too small for Alpha Team hands. The ones that do fit don't look half bad, and they're also more in scale to the figures than the ones that come in the accessory packs.

I went looking for wall calendars at a couple of Dollar Trees yesterday and checked the toy aisle. Both were stocked with Final Faction figures, aliens and good guys. It's a shame they're only showing up now that the holidays are over and the initial hype for the line has diminished. Still looking forward to series 2!

I got these warpo cthulhu toys (the whole set) a year ago and nothing that I've bought since has really interested me. I usually collect super articulated import toys, but I've been burnt out this year. Posing them hasn't been fun and the ridiculous amounts of articulation is annoying.
I love vehicles too, so I am considering selling all my 6in figures and going all into 5poa and vintage stuff.

I gotta say I'm legitimately surprised at these final faction toys. I haven't gotten any of the human ones but the aliens just do something for me. I'm thinking of stripping the paint on the synthoids and doing my own paintjobs, any thoughts on potential difficulties? Would this plastic melt from being spray-painted?
