If it's the latter, I think you'd have more fun picking characters you like out of that scale rather than series. One of the only good things about modern toys is that shit is pretty samey if you stick to a scale. Buy a wrestling ring, and now you have a tag-match between Chewy and Venom vs Cobra Commander and Nightwing, or whatever the fuck you want.
tldr, pick and choose what you think is cool, no need to marry yourself to a brand or series.
