Its strange, how few cool playsets exist for collectors toys. I mean, sure, we have some but they feel kind of obscure and rare. Why are there no official world of nintendo peachs castle or kakariko village playsets. Figma should so something for all their brands as well.

Playsets don't really sell well for the most part. We were talking about this a little in the 1/12 vs/ 1/18 thread, but play patterns and toy buying demographics have changed. Most toys nowadays are bought by adult collectors, who are primarily buying them to display. This means that what sells is large, detailed sculpts, like Marvel Legends, Black Series, NECA, etc. Smaller scale toys (which usually are the ones who get playsets, for obvious reasons) are not doing well in today's market, and are largely being phased out.

That's bullshit, lego for example made a statistic thst showed afols barely are important for their sales and kids are the main demo. Kids still want toys, the age where they stop wanting toys is faster though and that's the parents and society to blame, people are becoming worse with all thos yech and hell, I'm a zoomer(19) and even I agree my generation is fucked.

Sorry, I should have clarified. Lego does still hit big for kids. I was mostly talking about action figures--it has largely become a collector's game in the US. Even on my own toy hunts, I rarely see kids in the actual action figure aisle, mostly in the Lego, Nerf, etc. It's mostly other adult collectors like myself, digging through stacks of obscure Marvel and Transformers characters that most kids have probably never heard of.

I'd like to see any proof for this.

Everything I've heard Hasbro say is that collectors make up maybe 8-10% of Marvel lines. I've heard them repeat this in almost every panel I've been in with them.

Aside from that, i've read that the largest percentage of adult collectors for a children's toyline was GI Joe in the 00s with about 25%.

Also, there's plenty of playsets out there for collector toys. You're just not looking hard enough. It's all generic shit though, with some that you ahve to build yourself like a simplistic lego set.

I agree, with the transition of the action figure market into a more adult market the amount of "playsets" have declined.

The good new though is what used to be a small hobby craft/garage kit market is becoming more mainstream and as someone with disposable income but no time and 0 artistic skills I welcome this!

But there is. And there is a Bowser Castle too.

According to Hasbro, playsets don’t sell well and take a lot of shelf space, that’s why retailers don’t order them. I guess the death of Toy’s R Us really fucked them, since now they only produce what Target/Walmart wants.

Also there’s stuff like Haslab, which we can assume will become the vehicle for creation and sale of playsets from now on.

Personally, I think they look bad and cheap and janky. But they do look rather like the ingame ones, which also look kinda janky. I think I would have probably liked these more without the bad-looking drybrushing all over them.
