I have one or two individual figures like Roller that I bought loose on ebay. I sometimes see old stock of Unite Warriors up on BBTS, but for the most part they're long gone. You could probably overpay on ebay, or be patient and set up a Mandarake account for a better deal, maybe.

Got myself a Siege Ultra Magnus, Siege Megatron (the one with skid marks all over the place) and Siege Prime (the cel shaded version). They were all on clearance - I think I got them all for $70 or thereabouts, can't remember because I also got a bunch of non-Transformers stuff.

Isn't Hotlink a bullshit "consolation prize"; a god-awful existing SOLELY to be a stand-in for Skywarp because Hasbro fucked up and made Skywarp an impossible to find exclusive that got scalped to hell and back and for whatever reason, just flat out REFUSED to re-release him via the Netflix line and so they created a garbage new character who basically is Skywarp but with the color scheme inverted so where it should be purple it's now black and black where it should be purple and Hasbro telling fans to by this faker and PRETEND it's Skywarp if they can't pay the rape dollar price for the actual Skywarp toy?

Cliffjumper/Bumblebee were conceived when the plan was to do Scout/Legend figures with extras for the Deluxe price point. But that fell through and to justify the price point, they gave both guys a ton of regular weapons (while characters like Prowl, Smokescreen, and Wheeljack only got one of their pair of weapons).

Skywarp was easily available on Amazon for a few months before it sold out right before Thanksgiving 2019. People didn't want to pay $50 for a voyaget due to coming with battlemasters no one wanted so they waited for a sale like most Amazon exclusives had done previously and they fucked themselves over. Oops

I also got him earlier this year. It's basically the only time I've ever agreed with BSF, this thing sucks massive balls. It's already a nightmare trying to transform and combine the individual Dinobots. Then it's a real workout trying to pose the combiner, although he does maintain those poses as long as it's nothing too dynamic. But then, one tap is all it takes to make him crumble. Just think of him as a statue: make a pose that you like, then leave him on the shelf forever. It pisses me off every time I remember that I only got him because a hoarder friend of mine kept shilling it as the best Transformers combiner ever.

Yeah, Grimlock is the biggest problem for the combiner. The only limb bots that may be problematic are the two legs, and this also has to do with Grimlock. You transformed him slightly incorrectly - his toes should go into the calves just behind the kneepads formed by Sludge and Snarl's torsos. Having the toes out in front like yours significantly reduces forward lean and makes it as if the legs are of equal length (they are actually lopsided), but you also risk breaking the red kneepad from Snarl because it wasn't designed to hold any weight, there's basically nothing underneath that red piece supporting it in Shuraking mode.

None of the Western reviewers transformed this guy 100% correctly, not even emgo. Wotafa is actually the only one who got it right, and the only way he managed to make the legs equal length is by slightly manipulating the tilt mechanism on the left foot.

Not the same Anon but I have Abominus and I've done a few modifications to get tighter joints. The white object is a piece of 5mm styrene tube. It provides considerable resistance against the rectangular grey spring around it. The other ratcheting mechanisms you can screw open. You can put a washer or make one out of a styrene sheet inside the cylinder to compress the spring.

The limbs are tougher to tighten as it requires removing pins to get to the ratchets. You can try floor polish or carefully pushing a piece of a thin sheet of cardstock or styrene to get extra friction.

Obviously I'm assuming that Halfshell and Turtler have the same parts as Hun-Gurr.

Help!

Not really a frequent /toy/ browser, but I figured you guys would be my biggest hope.

I purchased the MP-44 Convoy/Optimus Prime, only to find that there's no instruction booklet within! All accessories are present, and nothing appears to be missing apart from the instructions. I don't want to attempt to transform the toy without them for fear of breaking it. I know the master piece toys are very delicate and finicky.

Could someone please provide me an image or a PDF of the instructions?

I use an air filter made out of a box fan, AC filter, and masking tape. It certainly doesn't stop dust from getting anywhere but it does significantly reduce the amount in my bedroom. I run it while I'm at work and replace the filter every month or so.

Some people have also pointed out that pink is a much more common color amongst decepticons then it is amongst Autobots. Which would be sensible if it’s resembles the color of blood and thereby is associated with violence and aggression.

Eh, I dunno. Hasbro churned out some absolutely brilliant Legends class dudes during the 2010s. Cosmos, Blackjack, Wheelie, Bombshell, Seaspray, Slash, Shockwave... They're a tad smaller, and I think they suffer a bit from their thinner plastic budget, which is noticeable when you compare any early 2000s figure to something modern, but most of those guys I listed are righteous bots that I'm not planning to replace.

I've always thought the Autobots are hypocritical. Unicron and hence Decepticons are pretty much metaphors of cosmological entropy and the "death" of stars/planets, which is something that happens to everything eventually. They are pretty much forces of nature on a perfectly natural evolutionary path. Of course this being a thing originally aimed at kids they are then portrayed as cartoonishly evil for this, while the Autobots are then portrayed as heroes for simply opposing them for muh justice and peace. This is why I only get Autobot toys that are decent toys in and of themselves, since I do not have any attachment to any of the characters, except the Headmaster Autobots. The Japanese background story and gigantic power armor gimmick of the Headmasters like Fortress was way more interesting than the stock Autobot ones, no matter what Western geewunners think about the show itself, which can be silly at times but nowhere near as bad as they keep saying.

The comic series was started in preparation to promote the various Japanese toylines Hasbro had just acquired. In essence the early Transformers "canon" was just a bunch of hacks slapping together what they can to make it seem that all these who totally came from the same continuity (they didn't) have some common background between them. A glaring example would be the case of Jetfire who was just a repainted Macross toy completely out of scale with the Microman and Diaclone figures, which was why he so much bigger than the others, and the comic/toon depictions was then forced to follow suit.

The difference between the TF franchise and something like say, Japanese super sentai stuff is super sentai stuff have always been entirely planned in advance from the first ever season until today: the toys, the show and its actors, various other merchandise, everything... Bandai/Popy and Toei were always in control from beginning to end. That's not saying the end products are always good, just that a typical season of super sentai will be very comprehensively planned, and very few things will ever contradict each other in-universe or otherwise. Of course all their stuff being 100% yearly affairs, unlike TF, helps in making everything feel cohesive.

Meanwhile early TF fiction was purely the creation of the original team, and they had to create something from scratch to connect those different toylines, which caused various differences with the respective Japanese toy companies' original intentions. Megatron for example, was originally meant to be a heroic character by the Japanese New Microman designers, they just didn't have a promotional show prepared yet before they made the deal with Hasbro.

The Hasbro execs of the time basically looked at every single interesting Japanese robot toy of their time to be rebranded into Transformers, like Omega Supreme who originally was not even a Takara property.

Every time the G1 cartoon has ever explored the lore of Cybertron, it has showed the Decepticons starting shit for no good reason. They are the aggressors who would rather step on others to achieve their goals than work together. Furthermore, as their war expanded outside of Cybertron, they have shown to not only be willing but also eager to step on any other lifeform to get what they want, regardless of how innocent and detached from their conflict that those lifeforms may be.

I think there's a relatability aspect to it, too. Kids are dumb and selfish, as well. It's easy to identify with some of those smalltime Decepticons.

They are the petty evils of Cybertronian society. The average every day vices that harm themselves and often those around them, and they've been not only complacent in their leaders' shittiness, they have participated in it when given the opportunity.

To put it another way, none of the smalltime Decepticons actually HAVE to be Decepticons. Autobots seem more than willing to accept a few character flaws. They tolerate Huffer, and he bitches about everything.

Wow. I completely disagree on all counts. I picked up Quake, but found hiss deco too dark and incohesive because it was trying to replicate the G1 toy scheme on an alt mode that didn't match. I'm usually all about literal-whos and Decepticon repaints, but Hardhead's lime green with khaki trousers and knee-boots just owned the mold too hard for me to be able to recognize it as anyone else.

But that's cool and I'm glad there are people out there who appreciate the mold variations that I don't. It's still a great toy no matter what flavor. There are like an infinite amount of great customs floating around out there, too.

I just gooped his elbows with floor polish and they've been fine ever since. The only thing I dislike about that toy is the baked in ankle tilt, it's one of the worst ones since the shape of his feet make him balance poorly if they aren't flat on the ground.

But like... are there really TF collectors who don't keep a bottle of floor polish or acrylic clear coat handy? I've only been collecting for a little while, but loose joints seems to be a universal problem, no matter what line or price-point. I'd have probably quit collecting by know if I didn't know how to fix them.

Yeah, but on the plus side, as long as his feet are planted, he's pretty stable, which is great when you want to put heavy things on his cannon-mount. And besides, it's not really intended as an ankle tilt anyway. I find the handier thing is to use the transformation joint in the shin, but not too much or it'll look weird.

I bought them, but I was a tad unimpressed. Sure it gave him great ankles, but it also fucked up his leg proportions, plus I just didn't like the way they looked; the material was cheap, and the sculpting on the stock feet was way better. Articulation isn't everything to me, I guess. If I knew where the hell they were, I'd offer to send them to you. Sorry anon.

It's usually a mold issue, either due to an inherent design flaw or simply overuse. It's good to keep a solution handy, but you're paying for a complete toy that by all means SHOULDN'T require any kind of maintenance out of the box. That's a failure on HasTak's part, not anon's.

It's nice that Takara is aware of paint chipping issues on the newer MPs and includes these convenient plastic sheets to protect the paint.

Also for real for some reason the rear fenders slide in way tighter against the roof of the car in robot mode than they do on Sunstreaker and Cordon, I'm really paranoid about chipping the paint on that so I have to not tab in the car's roof into his chest.

I'm not making excuses for HasTak, anon. But sentiment still stands; I don't get how anyone could collect Transformers for more than a year without seeking a solution for loose joints. It's something that just happens over time, too, with ANY kind of toy, and it's super annoying to have one of your favorite figures go all floppy just because you enjoy playing with it. Although most of this fandom seems to just stick figures on shelves to collect dust for their entire lives, so I guess I shouldn't be so surprised.

Even if their QC record were 99%, on toys with as many moving parts as Transformers, there's often always that one little joint that could stand to be a little tighter in order to improve stability or tidy the transformation. Two that come to mind, mostly because I have them on hand, would be Classics OP and Prime Megatron. Owned em both for years now, played with them loads, and the joints are still great and hold poses great. Keep in mind I'm not talking about the actual poseability, especially when talking about Prime Megs. Just, they hold their place just fine even after nearly a decade of ownership and play.

On the other end, I can contrast it with a redeco of the Classics OP mold, Nemesis Prime. Right out of the box, his right shoulder joint came fairly loose. Not incapable of holding poses... Unless you try to hold his really big gun with the right arm. That's a fucking nope. I'm not sure if it was a QC issue or mold degradation. Classics mold has been used a bajillion times, so the latter seems likely.

I dunno, anon. I'm just saying that if you're finding really loose joints out of the box, it's a problem and a perfectly valid reason to think less of a mold or line because of it.

I agree with you there absolutely are toys that hold up spendidly and I wish QC like that was more common; I've a Classics Optimus myself that has some of the best joints on any toy I've ever owned. But I've had plenty of toys I've also absolutely loved EXCEPT for one or two floppy joints. My life would really suck if I let that completely ruin a purchase for me for want of a literal drop or two of acrylic clear coat or floor polish.

I'm just saying that as a TF collector, it's the best 5 bucks I ever spent.

I mean, if I'm honest, my personal views on HasTak have gone into the shitter thanks to poor QC and design choices in recent years. Feel like it all really started going into the shitter with T30, can probably thank Blitzwing for that. What a piece of shit. But the catch 22 is we all love Transformers here, and HasTak is the only way we're going to get them at affordable prices. And while I absolutely despised T30, CW, and PotP, I've loved a bunch of stuff from TR and a lot of the WFC toys have me drooling. Things can always change, and the knowledge of that is what keeps me checking back in with these toys even when a line has made me otherwise completely check out.

I'm not advocating against keeping some floor polish around. I have a bottle myself for that exact purpose. I'm only saying that someone has every right to get frustrated and unhappy over poor QC or design, that as a company it is HasTak's job to give us toys that aren't outright dysfunctional out of the box. That's all.

Quake definitely got the better headsculpt, so that's worth the plain blue cockpit I guess. We don't seem to get amazing headsculpts as often as we used to.

What was the point of Kingdom if they won't adapt the Season 1 Beast Wars characters fully.

Terrorsaur they could have easily bundled with the Jurassic Park version of Megatron - perhaps even had the original show accurate version as an exclusive. It would have allowed fans to replicate 17 episodes of the show.

Inferno at the very least would have given us a unique design and had some playability with Black Arachnia and Tarantulas.

Like, what the heck were they aiming for with this line? This is probably our last chance to get scale accurate Beast Wars figures and they drop the ball on that by failing to release two of the figures who were more central to the focus of the show.

Also they covered most of her leg up with her trunk panel, and the overall shape of the car was very different, which required a massive backpack

They should just modernize the energon Arcee. Its almost perfect. She's already got massive tits and hips. Make the ass a touch better and put in some articulation. Get rid of the add on port that is in the center of her tits.

The vehicle form is almost perfect. It really looks like a motorcycle.

this was actually floro dery's best skill.
He was TERRIBLE at making understandable transformations
but the OG fembots were covered in parts. Chromia's wheels were all visible in robot mode.

Because they want a robot mode that's smaller than the boys, but a car mode that's the same size as them.
Which means either she has massive kibble, or they gotta spend a bunch of money on tiny folding panels which means no fun.
Personally, I'm not opposed to creating some interesting transformations, like the idea that her trunk slides over the seat/cab area to form her back, and the hood would actually split apart to form her arms, with just her entire torso on the undercarriage.
But the designers don't want to make her transform in TOO new of a way.
Maybe now that the MP is out they won't care as much and try new things.

Not my fault the G1 designs are timeless and mostly perfect, Energon (was on when I was a young lad) had some high quality designs too though, TFP was cool, I just think G2, BW, and TFA are shit

It's nothing too fancy or expensive, but my friend gifted me my old favorite transformer from the g1 days in his siege iteration. I've never really collected transformers before, but the war for cybertron trilogy has some of my favorite depictions of my old favorites.

And the worst thing is that the reason he doesn't have wheels is because they wanted him to be cheaper to animate. 30-something years later, this is why the MP line has turned into over-engineered garbage that adds unnecessary parts, backpacks and hinges, all just to look objectively worse.

I'd say only Scourge, Hotrod, Krok and Nautica were really affected, their head designs being uncompatible with how blocky TMs are.

eh, to be fair, the movie was the first time the cartoon characters were made before the toys. Thats the real problem.

I'm sure there is a way to do Arcee right. Like make the rear fenders her hips and ass. And instead of tucking everything up under her backback, snap it off and let you build like a bazooka or medic tool set. OR maybe something that actually looks like a hoverboard and not calling the ass of a car a hoverboard.

Like seriously, turn her into a weaponizer. Make half that car turn into parts for other shit. That might be fun.

Animated Arcee is another good option. use car doors and shit as side armor for her arms. And make her lower leg a little blocky, while maintaining her tits, hips and ass.

Scorponok was the same, arguably having less characterization and focus than Terrorsaur. As much as I want a Scorponok figure and I'm glad we're getting one, the fact they do Scorponok yet are potentially not doing Terrorsaur despite having Pterodactyls all over the promotional art is dumb.

ROTF Knockout is pretty much a modernized version of Energon Arcee, it transforms almost exactly the same way and has a similar form factor for the robot mode but with better articulation. I actually WOULD like to see exactly this figure but with some new robot parts so it doesn't look like a robot skeleton, I bet it would make a pretty cool Flamewar figure.
