you could of just left the store with the new figure but now you looked weird on camera. this is how people get caught, plus they arent going to stop you in the middle of the store as it's policy to not make a scene so usually we just contact via police later at target. customers arent immediately analyzed, only after they finish checkout do we check their activities, had you just left the store with the new toy they wouldn't of been able to properly identify you with their self checkout camera

I still don't understand this, my bother putting the item on the shelves if it's not available to buy? What's the point?
I understand why game stores out empty cases for preorders since the game isn't actually out yet but if the item is physically in the store why do this?

Well doing this screws up the inventory of certain items that have different skus, making it look like certain items from one sku are still in hand. When you see people complaining that the sites say in stock but there's no stock, this is probably what happened.

No one in the store is being paid enough to check the system each time they get a box with new items. They just know they have a box with products that have to go on the shelves

Honestly sometimes the manufacturer doesn’t put them on it assuming the front registers will get scanned and refuse the item. This is due to the fact most inventory isn’t as samey as toys can get where there is no difference between a ML exclusive and a normal release package wise.
