This was a pretty unimpressive yeah in all honesty. Nothing really mindblowing. Even though it was a bait and switch Motor Nuclear's two Mashin Hero wataru inspired releases were very cool. Otherwise I really like Mezco's Doc Nocturnal and Baron Bends.

Kind of a bland year for me.

Not a lot was released that did something different or was needed.... aside from the Space Marine.

If i had more time for painting, i'd have loved McFarlane's Space Marine.
Having the normal version is great, but not love worthy.

I got few things actually made in 2020, mostly reprints and old figures. Out of the things I got that actually released for the first time this year:

Probably the RD ANIME GM Custom for me as well. Possibly the greatest match/balance of the OVAs line art and animation model, great panel details that will be all the better if try and line them as well. With an articulation range that makes it a fun figure to play around with.

I am for stylization too but I think the Chinese can sometimes really, really go too much overboard with visual design. It's like they prioritize only the looks that the designers personally want, and when they inevitably discover the mechanical design challenges necessitated by the aforementioned looks, they just go the easy route and sacrifice transformation and/or articulation. Granted, this is also the case with SOC figures to an extent, but at least with those, they try to go for the original onscreen design as much as possible so any difficulties they face are all because of the original design itself.

Personally I loved it going beyond the original CGI model and putting in details from the toy as well, since the CGI model was rushed and plain in a lot of spots.

yeah, i go there already.

It's just hard for me to really enjoy people posting their custom work when my own is so drab.

Not even jealous of their stuff, it just feels like a disappointment really.

GREAT figure though. I hope McFarlane keeps on releasing more variants and maybe I'll just end up adding various details to mine, instead of just getting a blank to completely paint it.
