who the fuck would have thought the combiner that was so easily found at freaking dollar stores back in the 90s as transformers died out would be the one that was the most expensive when reworked for the modern stuff.

The seacons were shit you found at Freds, dollar general, etc. Everyone had a couple. They were cheap.

hmm. Seacons was 1988. Headmasters was 87, which many say is when TF really started to die, since hasbro could be arsed to put up the money for a real season. Seacons and powermaster/headmaster stuff did appear in the comics but they also slowly petered out. There would be about 2 years more of cartoons in japan before things finally died with the micromasters in 1990. They got like one vhs tape of cartoon.

Crazy looking back that things moved that fast.

Transformers the movie was only 1986! And the toys first started coming out in 84!

Man, looking back, its hard to believe that series came and went so fast. It felt like each season lasted years.

Really, I think it was pretenders and action masters that killed the series. No one ever gave a shit about those.

I recall Shockwave, Jetfire, Hungrr, snaptrap being pretty good.

Also, looking back at prices. For all the shit old tfs get for being bricks, the damn price was right. Snaptrap was like $12!!!

About the only room for error here was on the toys that had partsforming. Unless you were one of the dumb ones and mistook Optimus Prime's fists for fruit gushers, you could play with a transformer.

I wouldn't be surprised. I remember reading that they would just send toys in both car and robot mode to base the models off of seperately. That's why Optimus has the silver stripes in robot mode but not in truck mode, the toy in truck mode that they sent the studio just happened to not have stickers applied.

So,I want a transformer. I don't usually buy toys, first time on this board in fact. I got recommended by yt some guy who was reviewing a Fossil transformer that turned into weapons. I was like, that's cool. I want a transformer, man. Anyway I'm welling to part with about 50 bucks. What transformer(s) would you recommend? Primal's gorilla mode is a bit rough no matter how you position it, and the weird fur-crotch means it always looks like it was assembled backwards. For a deluxe I think Cheetor handles both modes pretty well, but I think Primal is a little undercooked for a voyager given the simple transformation.

Yeah, it's a 3P accessory. I like it quite a lot. There are even a places to store it in robot and jet mode underneath the back plate. It plugs in and out of the headmaster socket much more easily than the actual headmaster.

Tail ending means the last wave of a line (in this case, Earthrise). Alot of stores either get the last wave in incredibly low amounts or skip it entirely so they can move on to the next (which would be Kingdom).

The small bots are cute. I just got Cliffjumper and while his left wheel is a bit finicky, it has just such nice details for its size.

If you like Optimus Prime, the Earthrise version is a treat.

Since Kingdom's already showing up, I'm starting to get a bit concerned about Earthrise, more specifically Megatron.

I already made the effort to customized Siege Megatron, got a third party shoulder cannon that mounts cleanly into the robot mode and a beefier fusion cannon, cleaned the battle damage crap off, and I do feel good with the results, but the Siege figure has the retooled torso that I like more than Siege's deviations (not geewun accuracy, just looks cooler). I am aware that the molds aren't similar enough to easily swap parts, and that turretspear thing is downright offputting. Is it worth trying to get ER Megatron before Kingdom takes over?

You really should be in a financial position where you can spend $500 on recreation or non-essential a month at least and MPs are usually only 5 figures a year anyway and rarely over $200.

Luckily enough my BW Megatron didn't have that issue, it's caused by a misassembly of the hip ratchet that makes the joint be too thick and cracks the crotch, not an actual bad design thing that makes the breakage bound to happen over time.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I didn't expect to hear from this many people. I put in an order for Siege Starscream, and I've got a small list of what I'm looking for. I usually prefer Decepticons over Autobots, but you guys convinced me to get an Optimus. Ironworks is really neat too. Apeface and Snapdragon are up there, along with Spinister since helicopter alt modes are neat. I'll make sure to update these threads when I get some more in!

The paint quality and the look of the plastic are of course objectively better on the MP, but there's more to a mold than that IMO. Like being fun to play with, or being durable. And I get the sneaking suspicion that Kingdom Cheetor is going to be more durable and more fun to play with. On the positive side, the MP robot mode does look amazing. I'd just rather have something more fun to play with.

That's exactly where mine started chipping and shit like that drives me insane. For that kind of money I expected better, and that's always the big point when people like me talk about which is better. MPs just aren't worth the money these days. I use BBTS to import 3p and exclusives to Mexico, they may take a lot to ship your stuff, but they have you covered in case there any issues, I've been buying from them for years and they got me part replacements and ven gave me a full refund when I got the wrong package sent. TFSource also really good.

Terradive and/or any of it's repaints are great. I have both him and the Spacecase repaint and adore both.

Stormcloud, the black and purple repaint of the old Classics/Generations Ultra class Powerdive, is a great looking bruiser of a Decepticon.

Also, if you can find him for a reasonable price, I can't recommend enough getting the TF Go! Hunter Soundwave. Not the US Beasthunter release, who's coloring is kind of meh, but the TF Go Soundwave is mix of Blue and gold that's really striking. The stock TF prime Soundwave is nice as well, and both are Predator style stealth drones so they're not traditional jets, but they make an interesting contrast point.

Mostly good? One of his knee joints is a bit loose, and the 5mm pegs on the heels don't fit very snugly in some of the other ports, but the rest seem pretty solid.

well, the original is pretty damn solid on it's own but i am insanely frustrated by the missing yellow on the crotch and the hard-to-see eyes. the perfect mix would be the basic release and the netflix release, which is possible. i unscrewed the torso and swapped them, along with the hands and head. So basically, I've got the Netflix optimus with the torso of the ER optimus, which has the nicer blue windows and painted silver below

yeah, they're pretty solid. I haven't heard anything bad about the beast bots we've gotten so far. Some people are complaining that Beast Wars Megatron uses rubber parts, but other than that they've been mostly well-received.

eh, is mixed. Elita has a great head sculpt. And both have great legs. Some of the best thighs a fembot has ever had.

The transformation is just insanely lazy. Barely better than a G1 pretender.

Its not worth 20. Unless you just have to have a cute fembot to sit on the top of a large bot's shoulders. Otherwise, they'll be worth $10 when they finally get moved to Ollies or ross or tjmax

How is this a dud? He has a G1 faithful bot mode, the combined camera mode, and a bonus solo vehicle mode as well as a bunch of fan mode potential. Toy colors are available if you prefer that deco. He's a great toy that checks every box I could want from a Reflector. I like him so much I bought 7 of him (3 show colors, toy color set, 1 Netflix).

Also far from a dud. My only complaints are the excessive battle damage and I'd have preferred red eyes, but I prefer him to the Netflix overall which has it's own issues.

Because more people want toon design accuracy than original toy accuracy, it's funny how you only ever heard bitching about Hasbro doing the latter for years and how Takara were the basedgods for delivering the TOON ACCURATE details, but now people are like "eh toon accuracy isn't that special!"

I don't care about accuracy. There just isn't a world where two kinds of blue that close in shade under a helmet won't obscure detail. It just doesn't work. The blue face isn't accurate anyway. Blue eyes with a gray face looks fine. Yellow eyes with the blue face would have also worked fine. But what they went with just doesn't work. The Siege figure's head looks much better as a result.
