I actually have a lego island, slowly growing on my desk. It is a glass top desk, so the glass represents water, and over the years I have collected many boats and summery themed sets, as well as many city and creator buildings to fill it out.

There’s an added wrinkle here, though: if LEGO likes an idea, they can select it and put it into development even if it hasn’t received much attention, which was the case with my concept! I’m very glad that ideas can be developed without hitting something like the 10,000 supporters goal, because LEGO knows what they’re developing already and which fan concepts could complement their current projects.

- Massive airport with 80s and 90s small jets, not these shitty modern ones made of few molded pieces.
- Metroliner railroad all around the island and seaside with port where cargo is loaded from ships to freight train and onto trucks.
- Monorail train connecting airport with Paradisa district with a beautiful beach full of old fashioned palm trees Lego does not produce anymore.
- Wreck of Pirate ship and team of Aquanauts cooperating with Divers to recover underwater treasure.
- Adventures and tracking footsteps of Pirates who shipwrecked on this beach centuries ago and went deeper into the core of the island to discover ruins of ancient temple deep in the jungle.
- On another side of the island there is another large beach where Lego Racers are competing against Xtreme team stunters and Res-Q crew is taking care of any possible accidents.

Okay, so did I cover all major 80s and 90s themes apart from Castle, Western and Space? Good then. I don't hate them, I just think they do not suit my island as for now.

Faces were simpler.
To me, the biggest thing i had to get used to after my dark age is the modern lego faces.

This picture is a good comparison. I had plenty of the classic pirates, and while i don't mind the more detailed body print, the two newer faces are terrible compared to the classic one. They just seem wrong. That's why I buy only Playmobil now. Atleast they keep it classic.

I had these sets but I honestly have no idea what happened to them. Which is weird because they had large pieces. Some of my favorite figures are from the street basketball subtheme. The snowboarding set was cool too.

The set design was on point, and the factions were elder god tier. Trolls/Orcs, Skeletons, Dwarves, Humans. Very noteworthy that this was the best theme to mass skeleton hordes. Everyone likes skeletons. Add on that they are cheap to produce on Lego's end and easily bulk up a set in the minifig department. Literally the perfect bad guys. I loved that the minifigures didn't have names. It encourages those playing with the toys make up their own names and stories for the figures. I loved how easy it was to mass armies for sieges of structures. The buildings were designed to be completely modular. And the castle in your pic wasn't a facade, despite many existing in theme. It was a closed structure. The real honest question is

And honestly? The answer is not much. Its a bunch of nitpicks. The dragons were cool but flimsy, the structural integrity of most sets would be given a C+ for modern standards of lego set design. But again those are nitpicks.

I think licensing has constantly pushed Castle to the backburner. For whatever reason they axed Fantasy Castle for the similar Kingdoms. In hindsight Kingdoms was cool but I didn't get any of the sets. As this was the start of my dark ages. Kingdoms in 2011 was short lived. IIRC then a Lord of the Rings license happened, then hobbit, then Nexo Knights was considered by TLG to be Castle. We've had a long hiatus since then. It has been 2011 since the last real lego Castle theme. Lego might be hesitant to make a Castle theme because of Harry Potter. Looking at the sets, I see why. But it will be back before we know it. But why won't they remake that subtheme specifically? I think they will take inspiration from that, in the fantasy department, but will give everyone names and backstories because that is what market research says. My own dream is a balanced theme between medieval village type sets and army sets. Though I doubt that balance would happen.

New minidoll theme for 2019 will be Space Friends like the other anon said, but in 2023 the new theme will be magical girls in the Earth realm after the link between Elfland and Earth is severed. Main characters will be a team of teenage girls from Earth who are recruited by a handsome older man who wants to collect several hidden treasures "of great evil" scattered around Earth "to stop them from falling into the wrong hands". HOM is actually the bad guy orchestrating everything to collect the evil objects for his own use. Supposed antagonist is a thief not much older than the girls who may or may not be half-elven. Gimmicks will be magical smartphones that contact Elfland and are collectable like Nexo shields, and cute animal familiars for each of the girls. Sets will all be scaled-down versions of famous landmarks around the world where they fight the local monsters for possession of the artifact.

It's, like, fine. The obvious good things are the tree, well, and forge are a nice size. Never liked the original tree. The decal for the sign gives me hope that the inside will have some fun and usable decals for my world of swords and sorcery. The tournament knight's swords makes me worried that we'll only be getting 'new' moulds for the details. No classic swords or shields I guess. Overall it has the 'enthusiast' kind of detail. The profile bricks with snotted tiles right next to it. I get that we wanted different sized stones used for the chimney, but I never enjoy that clashing styles. I have a lot of thoughts about this thing.

But looking over what's up on Ideas just reminds me how creatively bankrupt this entire scheme is, from what's posted and what gets support.

3 mimics of media, 3 objects "but lego" and this building, which is the only original idea of the lot despite just being a building of a well known architectural style with a bunch of moc "detail"

Call me crazy, but I much prefer the new one.
Too many MOCs are overtly complex for the sake of "realism" and "detail" and end up just looking cluttered as fuck.

I actually did it, but it was not technically or aesthetically interesting. They had the brown, pink, and white 2x4 bricks next to each other at the MOA PAB wall, and I thought "Damn, looks like cheap Neapolitan" . I just made a white base for the arctic base camp with some of the ice cream bricks showing through like they were being excavated.

Couldn't buy anything online minutes after midnight S@H. Fall asleep. Wake up this AM. G/F cooked me nice breakfast. Let's just go to the mall. @LEGO store. Only allowing like 8 people to shop at once in store. Ask employee at door if they have what I want. Get in. Get Police Modular, Jeep Wrangler, 2 road plate kits, 4 blind bags and 3 freebies. Ice skating rink and 2 cars. I was happy and didn't want to get greedy. Only one police station left on shelf too. Didn't think about anything else. Check online. Shit us selling out. Wow.
