The way that Roberts depicts basically all of the gay relationships in the comics is genuinely creepy as hell to me. It's all fucked up abuse and manipulation and shit especially with the Tailgate triangle, but the Rewind story specifically made me immediately hate the direction it was going. Their relationship was actually pretty cute and then Overlord killing the real Rewind and the both of them just accepting that they're with a hollow shell of the person they actually loved and it's treated like some good thing.

Fucking creepy stuff.

If you haven't already, Flypro first. And I'd say whichever you choose to keep, you might also want to look into the trailer kit. In both cases, I feel the replacement heads that come with them are at least slightly better than their stock ones. And in Archenemy's case, it's the only way to get him a gun.

I was going to get him but decided to put that money towards an overpriced Saint Seiya figure instead. I don't think I regret it as I don't care for the character too much (lol writing) and he takes up fuck huge space, but I wouldn't be surprised if he goes up in value later on and therefore out of budget

Standing him on my little kitchen scale, he's something over 2 lbs with everything on (minus roller, and the missile nose). And as I mentioned in the previous (or previous previous) thread, it's hard to weigh it (not that way) as a 2020 release since he's still in the majority the same as ST01-B from last year, with a bit of changing out of the accessories. But since I don't have that release (just the first Big Red), he's new enough to me to count.

You'll probably want to look into Mastermind Creation's Tyrantron as your best possible option. I'd personally be more inclined to recommend Maketoys' Rioter Despotron, but, that's just something you're not all too likely to be able to track down.

Eh, they were okay to me from that angle. I just didn't like some pairings, especially Ratchet/Drift but that's mostly because I absolutely can not stand Drift. Have a similar problem with Tailgate though to a lesser degree. Up till the end Tailgate came off as asshole and bratty kid to me. Don't hate the pairing or anything and I am happy Cyclonus got a happy end, just not a fan of that little shit. Hate to say it but most of the fan ships are more to my subjective liking than the canonicall confirmed ones.

I like Kaon a lot as well. Tarn is a cool toy on his own but despite the non-transformation, owning a Flame Toys Tarn just makes him look so pale in comparison. The big dudes are both great. Altogether the group is probably my favorite MMC output so far. Though that's party for the cool designs they have.
I am looking forward to their Deathsaurus.

I know IDW has its moments where it beats you over the head with social justice but weirdly enough, the shit with Cyclonus and Tailgate, as well as Chromedome and Rewind, never felt unnatural or preachy. The holoforms thing was really more comical than anything but now that you mention it, it does seem a little off, but only if you intentionally read into it when on the surface, it's just supposed to be extreme representations of their personalities. Not really. Seawing's alt mode is about on par with his G1 representation, just brought to a more extreme aesthetic. TFC's Seacons were pretty consistent with their modern logical conclusions of the G1 characters so this seems to be an entirely new trend with the Terrorcons that they thought of on the middle of designing them but too late to go back and apply it where it was missed. If I had to guess, Hun-Gurr will likely not have a mutant mode either.

Yep first run. The paint peeled off in big clumps after a few transformations. So I stripped the entire chest plate and polished it shiny. Doesn't look too bad so I'm not too annoyed and I don't really give a crap about toon accuracy or anything like that.

Eligos is fine but quietus is a better display piece, but only if you keep him in robot mode and don't get a single scratch on him (unless you can paint, then whatever).

Yeah he looks great, a real improvement over the original. This idw "samurai" headsculpt was a big part of why I purchased quietus instead of eligos.
It looks so good but it isn't toon accurate, and the colours of quietus don't match the idw comic purple, so it's definitely a personal taste thing.

Go after sovereign instead because he is a superior figure in my opinion, and get eligos too for a good price. Both look good, no?

Nah, it's an alternate idw head sculpt that came with quietus. It's amazing. He comes with "samurai" style leg armour too that can hold the swords. Definitely the look that I'm going for, see my previous post about painting.

Guess I can clarify that I'm just another Anon that slipped in, and wasn't the first guy you were responding to. I was able to pick up Sovereign (M-version) from the re-run that happened a few months back, and I agree, he's really just, a knock out.

My personal nitpick with both versions of Eligos and 29-T is the extra tint to, as best as I can say, "skin tone." I just like the look more of 29's normal white, as well as that particular choice for his blue. 29-T is probably the least egregious of the three, with both versions of Eligos going kind of extreme in two different color choices.

What he doesn't realize is that just because a twist can be predicted doesn't make it a bad twist. In fact, it's quite the opposite. To an extent, a twist should always be predictable because it still needs to leave hints to set it up, otherwise it's just out of left field and only exists for the shock value. A predictable twist is only bad if you left too many clues leading up to it to the point where you practically spell it out. A good twist is one where you you leave just enough in the setup so that when it's revealed, you have half your audience saying "HAH I FUCKING KNEW IT" and the other half going "OOOOOOOH IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW" because it means some picked up on your clues and others only realized they were there in retrospect. It seems like he had the proper setup for Tarn to be Roller but he took the existence of the internet far too personally and got pissy that the half that noticed the clues were sharing it online but that's just what is going to happen with any story that comes out on a schedule with time for fans to discuss in between. It's like he's never written for comics before because this shit happens all the fucking time. Fans love to talk about it and theorize as the story is coming out. The fun for them comes from finding out if they were right or not and when you change your twist just to spite them solving your mystery, it's just petty and shows you hate your fans.

The G1 car line screeched to a hault because Takara was unable to get car licenses at a reasonable cost.I think part of the reason for going more toon aesthetics was to try and skirt around the issue of vehicle mode licensing but that's not viable either and even the chibi 2.0 Bumblebee alt-mode was licensed.

Personally I think they match well. MMC's Tarn isn't much smaller than the FT Tarn, the latter is just bulkier and more elaborated so they don't clash sizewise. Maybe rather the opposite. MMC's Tarn looks a bit too frail in my opnion. Great toy by the way, but compared to his threatening appearance in the comics the FT version just works better for me.

It was just a rumor. Chinese TV news used footage of a guy's collection to illustrate 3P Transformers for a story about weiJiang getting raided and people assumed it meant they were shutting down . The owner, JJ, came out and said they were fine and they just released a reissue of Phoenix in the last month. They're just a bit behind on two of their planned releases for the year(a stunticon and Seaspray) but otherwise most 3Ps go silent until March aroudn this time of year.

Despite agreeing with this I still think Damus being Tarn is a ten times more interesting additional info for his character than him being Roller, who would just be a good guy turning evil for no real reason. Damus was already a victim of empurata, he was not only most likely already a rebel before Orion picked him up, he was probably mentally damaged by what had happened to him too (see Whirl). Add to this that it felt like he was pretty much ignored by his friends and shunned by Skids due to the power he had and it explains perfectly why someone like him would never be attached to his crew the way the others were and why he was probably lowkey insane even before joining Megatron (and why he was shitting on Skids in Grindcore).
Not that any of this potential was ever used. But at least on paper it's way more convincing and interesting than Tarn being Roller, some happy and chill dude that was always friends with Orion.

The transformation is really tedious, and one of the shoulders is SUPER tight, to the point where it makes posing him frustrating. Maybe the reissue will fix that. The rubber tires are nice though, and his robot mode has surprisingly fun articulation. He's got that thing where he looks really good with minimal effort.

Magic Square is usually the most accurate if you demand slavish cartoon accuracy. They're also the loosest of the figures, having some issues with things being too loose in the same manner IF has issues with figures being too tight.

New Age is slightly less accurate on some things but the middle ground of the two. They've also been getting better with time (and were pretty good to begin with!). Except with my Starscream, his big fat metal fuckin' feet make his waist hinge flop out, what kind of fuckin' assholes put diecast fuckin' feet on a fuckin' LEGENDS figure?

Also the NA Insecticons are probably the most impressive figures I own next to Diaclone KO's. This includes MP shit, too. I just can't get over how much articulation they managed to pack into figures that rival the Diaclone 'bots in size.

Magic Square's totally fine, but I think Newage is my favorite of the legends scale companies. Had some tolerance issues with some of MS's stuff like Arcee's biceps being too tight and Soundwave's legs being hard to tab together. Only Newage figure I have any problems with is Starscream. It's super impressive, can't believe they managed to pull that off, but the entire cockpit section tends to pop off every time I've transformed it. Maybe that's just my copy, but it's annoying regardless.

The preference in scale has a lot to do with the transformers I had as a kid. I had lots of deluxe and voyager toys so the feel of the MP scale I like really clicks with me.

I prefer that Legends take up less space and sometimes have some extremely innovative+streamlined engineering solutions. Newage in particular is in a league of its own as far as I’m concerned.

What I DON’T prefer about Legends is that aside from Iron Factory, it’s pretty much all G1 characters. CHUG + MP scale has more variety.

Yeah he looks really good even without his mask (not sure about the reissue, but the old MMC has a terrible face) and his LEDs make him quite cool. He is also more poseable than his MMC counterpart, at the cost of a transformation. It took me a long time till decided which to buy too, but in my case I was lucky for having enough spare money during corona times. Sometimes being a lonely and tired anon has its merits, like not doing a lot of things others spend money at.

Does anybody have the reissue of Mastermind's Tarn they recently released? Did they change anything?

Semi-related but I think it's a bid sad Hasbro didn't make one for his Cyberverse version, since there is no way a 3p will do it. It's not nearly as cool as in the comics but still.

Speaking of KKKs I hope FT will re-issue their Star Saber too now that they have done the black one. Not interested in that, they have too many blakish/purple bots at the moment, but the dar SS is just a recolor, so I have a bit of hope.
How were his bonus parts? I always order from D4 since shipping costs from the US are so high they make up for the lower price on TFS and such anyway.

God, that facesculpt is horrendous.
You have parts that weren't retooled (eg. his head) that looks pretty bad, and is actually inaccurate to the design.

Fixing the head, doing something with the too-wide thighs and maybe adding some kind of detail to the treads would've improved it a lot. I don't have the figure to know how he works, but I wish they made the crotch more protruding too. Everything feels flat, like that other anon said.

I picked him up when he came out simply because I liked his look, and didn't have any of their previous uses of the mold. Now, I haven't read any of the comics (save a page or panel here or there), but I have a vague understanding about his character. So my question would be: what other characters / releases would one actually put together on a shelf? DJD were IDW exclusive characters so I wasn't expecting anything like the (G1) wars... I think we were lucky to get what we got honestly.

The problem with this body is that it's the Functionist senator version of him, so he only appeared like that in the pre-war era of a Dreamwave comic/Megatron Origin and later Chaos Theory and exRiD flashbacks IIRC. The guys he interacted with were therefore other senators like sen. Proteus, sen. Shockwave (before he got defaced) and others I don't know by name as well as Sentinel Prime or other Functionists like Zeta.
None of them have toys though (not that version of Shockwave and Sentinel either), so I would just put him besides Decepticon bigwigs like Megs, Starscream and such or the second tier Decepticons, due to a lack of better options. I don't think him and Mindwipe are a bad match in that regard.

He actually looks pretty cool in that pic. But yeah, the character himself is just irrelevant. Nice guy with a bunch of short scenes, but literally nothing else. Would get this mold for sure if they reused it for some others though. I feel like it would match to Nominus Prime for example. Based. Funny enough, the few comic OCs I still care about are all from the very early parts too. And the lack of Pharma is weird regardless of what people think of him. He triggered a similar hype on the internet as Tarn later. And he has a known alt-mode that shouldn't be too hard to make.

Tarn sells well though and he was hyped. I think it's not too hard to guess that characters with tons of fans have a higher chance to sell than some randos like Roller and such. So far every character that triggered a bigger hype on the net was also one that sold well.

That's because he was mainly drawn by Kei Zama who is an amazing artist (see your pic). Her shadows and stylistic choices just match well with a series about deadly warrior robots. He is sadly shitty from a personality perspective and as one-dimensional as he can get, but if a toy would look nice enough I might get it regardless.

Fucking this. And I know it's considered sacrilegious but I never bought a single Seeker since I hate their bodytype. I actually like flyers and jets, just not them. The coneheads are a bit better in my opinion though, but I don't have the urge of getting more than one of them either.

I finally got this fucker some time ago. I waited for a re-issue but that failed since MMC was doing one of their weird website "pre-orders or nothing" games again so I had to monitor ebay for months till I found one that costed less than 300€ including shipping.

On that note, Sark is like the George Lucas of toy designers. He has good ideas in him but everything needs to be filtered through somebody else to tweak them and bring it the good parts while cutting the shit ones. Feral Rex is still pretty solid to this day but it wouldn't have been any good had there not be another designer to edit and finalize it after Sark finished the initial design. Everything Sark designed by himself is just shit.
