Why does Imperfect Cell always get skipped over when it comes to toys? He's probably my favourite villain and aside from the old Irwin figure he basically gets nothing. I'd love a Dragon Stars or Figure-Rise Standard figure.
I know there is a Dragon Ball general but that seems to be exclusively discussing S.H.Figurarts, so this thread can be for discussing everything OTHER than SHF.

Same reason Frieza form 2 - 3 get skipped over, it's not the final form used in the final fight (and to a degree even first form Frieza gets looked over in favour of his 4th).
It's a shame though since Imperfect Cell is great, I never liked how Cell just became Frieza 2.0 by the end.
Makes me wish I could hop universes to one where Toriyama stopped listening to his editor when he said to give him another form.

I have the SDCC SS Goku, which I like, and the quality is certainly there. But the SHF stuff are basically just display pieces, I may not be one for bashing my figures around (never was, even as a kid) but I do like to handle them, poses them, play around with them. I'll even take a vinyl figure like the Sentai Hero or Rider Hero figures with two points of articulation if it means I can play with it.

I mean their fragility, like you're meant to put them in the pose you like and leave them on a shelf, maybe repose them occasionally, but they're not "toys" y'know? I feel like constantly messing around with them will lead to loose joints, thin parts cracking/breaking.
Plus there's the cost, if I'm gonna get into the line I'm gonna be sinking 100 bucks at least per figure into them that's just too much for me. For that price I can buy a Figure-rise Standard and Dragon Stars figure.

They're pretty playable idk. A Dragon Stars gets looser faster than a figuarts. The only time I've had a loose figuarts is a QC issue, and I've ripped my 2.0 Vegeta apart multiple times and kitbashed him and played with him for years. He was the first toy I opened once I got back into toys and he still has very tight joints.

Yeah, I have seen in threads that there have been improvements to the sculpts since then. That and mine has had his belt change colour, which apparently is common with that figure (humidity issue apparently) though I lucked out and mine changed colour in a uniform manner, so it doesn't look splotchy or anything.

I've been really getting into the Figure-Rise kits lately though, the sculpts are nice and I'm going out with a friend in a few days to get some Gundam markers and stuff and they're gonna help me do some paint detailing on them. I wish there was a way to fill the cavities in the limbs though, give them a little more heft.

Was it a Gatcha type thing? I love those little figures, years ago there was a store at the local shopping centre that put out a Gacha machine with DBZ figures in it. I got every figure I wanted except Imperfect Cell, me and my buddies practically emptied the thing.

Sort of, Dragon Ball is a quest series with various adventures loosely based on Journey To The West. Dragon Ball Z starts to repeat the same shit by the end of the Namek Saga, and that follows though into Super. Though Super has more of a sense of humour about everything.

Well my main concern was loosening of joints, or stressing the plastic, on repeated posing, as I have fairly limited experience with Figuarts, but as >>8681280
explained, they're apparently far more durable than I had previously thought. I guess because I hear a lot of people complaining about fragility and QC issues with the SH Monster Arts line, I was worried that it may carry over. And when they cost about 100 bucks each that's too much for me to deep dive into, I may not be poor, but I'm not exactly rolling in dough.

Nah, it's just habits and context. Just make it a habit to remain calm when someone comes at you with an attitude, ask "are they really attacking me specifically?" it can help defuse situations. But context is key as well, this is /toy/ we're a bunch of nerds who never stopped playing with small plastic pieces of shit designed for children, people are gonna gives us shit for that (even though a multi-million dollar industry and several companies are catering to our specific interest), there's no reason for us to be mean to each other. We can disagree about stuff, but in the end we're all on the same side when it comes to our love of toys. I appreciate the compliment though.

Yeah, neat idea, but the practicality of it was seriously lacking, the rubber split on all of mine almost immediately, and they don't look that great. But having the smaller figures was fun. Not gonna lie, I kept the Gohan figure from this line in my jacket pocket throughout my early highschool years, it was a bad time for me and it brought me comfort knowing it was there.

i collect all import lines and there's definitely some fragile ones. of all of them, figuarts is probably the most durable. i can only think of two issues that led to breaks (yamcha's hair and jiren's arm) and those were because of QC issues with those two figures, not the average build quality of the line.

figuarts is actually the only line i keep on my desk to play around with because i know they're relatively sturdier than something like my robot damashii or figma

so yeah i'd say shf is the most sturdy outside of like, american hasbro stuff that's designed for a child to throw across the room. my gokus take shelf dives sometimes, even, and still havent broken (but that's partially luck since a shelf dive can take out anything)

As for cost I'm talking AU so everything is AT LEAST double out here, assuming retailers aren't bumping the price on top of that. All that said, you don't have to agree with me, I fully respect people's preference for SHF figures, they are nice figures, I just wanted to have a thread that wasn't dominated by SHF stuff. Maybe even talk about the old Irwin and Jakks Pacific stuff for nostalgia sake, that's all.

OP here, I'm gonna try and clear up a couple questions that people have (though they may be trolls so I'm not gonna bother answering them specifically).

First my comments on fragility and people's answers - I fully admit that I have limited experience with SHF figures and so I was concerned that they MAY be fragile, I never definitively stated that I thought they were, or that the toys were not good quality. Specifically I was more worried about joints quickly becoming loose or possible QC issues that other lines like S.H.Monsterarts often have. As several other anons have vouched for their durability I'm happy to say that I am now convinced that fragility is not an issue and will feel more comfortable if I decide to purchase any in future.

The cost - I live in Australia, even buying off sites like HLJ I'm loking at between 45 to 90 bucks, and then there's import tax and shipping on top of that. If I go to a store in the country selling them, I'm looking at 150 up to 250 dollars each because the nearest stores are assholes who like to price gouge. If someone knows somewhere reliable and cheaper, then please let me know.

But the main thing is I also wanted to make this thread somewhere to discuss Dragon Ball figures OTHER than SHF, I understand that there is discussion about Figure-rise and Dragon Stars in the general, but the focus is still SHF. Besides if Lego and Transformers can have multiple threads going at once, why not Dragon Ball? So I thought it might be nice to have a thread focused on everything else, whether it be Dragon Stars or Vinyl or old Irwin stuff or even Gashapon. So to that end, here are a couple Gachas I picked up early this year that I think are pretty rad. So can we just have a fun thread?

The dragon ball general people are constantly talking about shf cause there's releases monthly. They also talk about the DF bootleg stuff whenever that comes out. Dragon stars releases have slowed down so you don't see much discussion about that either nowadays. People frown on statue stuff so in the end the dragon Ball general just mainly talks about the one line getting new releases constantly.

Yeah, I get that. I've been a little worried that maybe Dragon Stars was about to be cancelled, but that might just be 2020 causing everything to turn to shit. But we can still discuss our wants, like which characters we'd love to get (for me Imperfect Cell, Gero, classic Future Trunks, Future Gohan), or improvements in the Dragon Stars line we'd like to see (better hips, alternate heads, removable arm for Future Gohan or a battle damage Piccolo). Plus we could discuss toys of yesteryear that we loved or hated like the absolute abomination that was this figure, that I have, and never played with.
