'87 was the year I started collecting Joe's as a little boy. I had Dr. Mindbender and a Techno-Viper but my parents never bought me the awesome Maggot.
Either birthday or Christmas of '88, though, I got both the Rolling Thunder and Bugg, which were always my favorite vehicles.

I just snagged a complete Techno Viper at a vintage toy store for 15 clams, only thing he was missing was a stand.

Why do I keep reading this?? From what I can remember, only the comics were called action force and a early line of 3.75 figures that was separate and before gi joe.

I was born in 82 In uk and collected joes from a child and the toys were always called gi joe.

whaaa... it was my first (and only ARAH) Cobra Commander. I feel personally attacked if just a bit. He looks so cool in black, but it doesn't hold up to blue cobra commander I'll give you that.

I started with Battle Corps but even at that young age I was biased against neon colored figures, so I always was looking for the most subdued colored figures. Seeing the catalogs on old figures was kind of sad because I knew I would not get any of them, on the contrary though finding yojoe.com sometime around late 90's early 2000's was such a joy... watching those 80's figures in very good quality.... Lt. Falcon, Footloose, Duke...it was incredible.

I'm all for it. When I was a kid and my skystriker started looking a bit beat up, I spray painted it matt black with gloss red on the leading edges of the wings.

That chrome skystriker, btw, looks bitchin'.

It's been touched up with paint. I've done at least one major round of repair and restoration on each of those four figures. (Multiple rounds on both Gung-Ho and Outback.) Wish I'd taken some pics of what they looked like back then.

If you look closely at the bottom of the U in SURVIVAL you can see where I nicked the plastic using the tip of an X-acto blade to scrape excess black paint away. I can never unsee my mistakes.

Now see Wet Suit is tough for me. I didn't like how they did him in the cartoon so it's always been hard to warm to the figure. Same with Lowlight.

Makes sense to me. Wet Suit was silly in the cartoon and his colors were unrealistic, but I dug the design of his suit. (So I repainted him into my version of Torpedo.)

And Leatherneck was dorky, but his figure had a lot of play value, especially compared to a figure that wears flippers.

All very underrated Cobra figures!

Boa is a great idea as being a brutal Cobra drill instructor

Croc Master as in charge of patrolling the swamps of Cobra Island. A great partner for Copperhead.

Crystal Ball, and Raptor as pagan/Occult leaning partners. Gi Joe always had a cool Supernatural flavor in the cartoon.

Crocmaster should have had something called Swamp Vipers at his command.

Raptor and Crystal Ball are over the Rock Vipers

I've never had the newer one, but I know it's an all new mold and comes broken down in smaller pieces before assembly. It also has a more detailed cockpit. Aside from that I'm not sure.

The Cobra leadership three pack was dogshit, especially since it bore ZERO resemblance to what was promoted (IE battle helmet CC and the first Destro figure) and came in garrish colors for CC and Destro. The ONLY redeeming thing about it was that it had Baroness, for those who never got her back in the early 80s as she was never available outside her original run and that the main Joe line was canceled before a planned Battle Corps version could be released.

The only good 15th Anniversary packs was the Commando pack (Lady Jaye makes up for the garbage Snake Eyes repaint and lazy Storm Shadow repack) and Viper army builder three pack.

I loved the Cobra Commander and like you said the Baroness. Destro was a bit dodgy but I was thrilled.

Got the pack with Lady Jaye and Storm Shadow. Got the Trouble Bubble and Viper. I was in Heaven.

I missed the O ring Joe's in the2000s so1997 was my last hurrah as a collector until a few years ago with Evil Bay

Vintage is two seater and very basic, but the two seats have a parachute and can be dismounted and pretend they eject.

New one is one seater but has more detail inside (control stick, ejection seat handles and a little HUD thingie) and the seats is fixed.
