Nah, the story was already extremely huge and convoluted, so new kids getting into the theme was quite hard, thus sales tanked.
It was a journey from start to finish, but the journey was too long and getting into the journey midway just didn't work out.

the biggest regret of my life was being too autistic to ask for the free GWP for buying Star Wars sets for over 30€ back when I bought the Rogue Shadow at Toys R Us. Missed out on Chrome Darth Vader, the bags were just hanging there too, could have probably just taken it to the cashier with my other set and it would have been fine.

Sold out on the lego.com.au store so maybe.

Btw the new TIE fighter is definitey a good deal for the price, especially if you get it off K-Mart for a few dollars less. You can even modify it into a TIE Interceptor with a few spare parts.

It's considered to be the worst Technic set of the year and even one of the worst in general.
It's horribly overpriced, has giant gaps, is poorly constructed to the point where you can just bend the whole thing with ease, has no functions and is riddled with stickers.

I think a modular Hospital would be a perfect way to end the series. I agree that the latest one just feels a tad bit off, with how tiny the side buildings are in relation to the main police station being the culprit for me.

32x32 baseplate, train tracks (8 studs width) on one side, a simple personal train (one of those self-powered, modern ones) of about 24-30 studs length on that, then about 6 studs worth of a platform, 14 studs (12 inside) for the small one-story train station building, and another 4 for the sidewalk.

Train station w/ convenience store
School
Museum
Toy store (Lego or maybe ToysRUs collab)

I would also love them to do a church but probably the backlash would be enormous, same for a mosque.

Afterwards maybe refresh some ideas as they did with Winter village toy store. Town hall, fire station etc. can all be improved with new pieces and building techniques.

AT was always kind of meh compared to everything both before its time and during it. I think every year it got worse regarding big pieces.
But appearance-wise the last one was great, ignoring how they entirely changed the good guys' colors Pic related with its transformation was peak design.

Even more interesting than his videos about bad Lego sets (or the sets he considers to be shit) and more or less good 3rd party sets are his videos about old and classic lego sets.

This causes really interesting things on the german used lego market.

Around mid-late December he posted two videos. One about the current Lego City Police Station (which sucks) and one about 7744, an old and large Police Station (which he considers to be superior). He said he bought this station used on Ebay for less than 40€. And that he ordered a second one for also around 40€.

This caused this set to almost entirely disappear from the common platforms for used Lego in Germany. If you look at sold items on Ebay for this set, you can see that the price almost doubled from December to January.
Its insane what kind of "power" this guy has over the sales of certain sets if he wants to.

Just imagine to know beforehand what "classic" city set he might praise next...

When I think of "classic Castle" I think of Lion Knights, Black Falcons, Forestmen, Black Knights and MAYBE Wolf Pack. The concept is cool and the movie could definitely be centered around this theme if it was still around (or if it was re-released to go with it).

It just feels cheap in the sense that the builds look like stuff a child would design. And yet, kids are capable of creating some cool shit if they learn the advanced brick math and SNOT techniques early.
Also those builds were sturdy and properly made unlike the heaps of CADfaggotry that we see in supposedly advanced models of today, so I guess that argument is moot.

Does anyone else hate Lego's website? Half the time it's broken and past that, it feels like it's oddly consolidated into different, difficult to navigate sub-websites. Not to mention viewing and using VIP points is a pain.

They sat on shelves here until reaching 30% or less of their original price. They made too many and they did not sell at all. Mocers and scalpers avoided them as well. No future rise in value and not that many useful parts.

I found one minifig blind bag at 2 cents at walmart. That's why they had about 50 of them one week and only that one the next.

Decided on Rock Raiders, Alpha Team (First Mission) and Ice Planet. Was really thinking about Studios since I work in the film industry but the sets were so unfocused and random (while cool) I don't really see how a big one-off set would work with that theme.

Different guy, but I think interesting/newish parts depends on when you started collecting/when your dark age(s) are. Hell, the no stud slope and SNOT bracket plates still feel like awesome new stuff to me, even though they’re almost/at least a decade old.

As for what to get, if you limit your purview to 2021 sets, generally most Creator and Ninjago sets will be satisfactory. However I’d HIGHLY recommend Zane’s Titan Mech from Legacy. $60, over 700 pieces, and amazing build with actual articulation. The Lion Creator also seems to be pretty good, and super cheap at $15.

the big new part push in the new sets is the city road plate system, i don't own the old baseplates so i don't care much about them not being compatible but the set prices are ridiculous because of them. i think standout for city has to be the tractor, and i really have a fondness for the airshow jet transporter. instead if buildings are your go-to try the creator surf beach house

honestly i really know very little about ninjago other than there were a few new vehicle releases, also some basically extended people packs, though a huge new set came out for it at $300 (don't worry about trying to find one, no one seems to be buying)

everyone on here and in the store loves the cyber drone, but i agree with this anon that lion creator is cool >>8706381 as well as the motor bike.

That's because the VIP release was on the 14th and even then it turned to back-order status fast.

The road sets are only good if you want to make a full street display, and even then it's preferrable to start off with the city center or other buildings.

I generally spend about US$300 on Bricklink orders. I splurged earlier this month on the CNY sets, Ninjago city gardens, and pigsy's food truck. They were all exceptionally beautiful sets (except for the truck, which I bought for the turret piggy and the comfy hidden command centre), and I might just shell out for the monkey king mech too. With lockdown trucking along apace, I haven't been spending any money on travel or eating, and I still have a good job. I just hope the summer wave disappoints so I'm not compelled to buy anything else until Christmas. I don't have much shelf space.

Its hard to do with a single lot.
(also, dont fucking pay 20 dollars for shipping.. for that money you can order things from Japan to Europe).

You have to buy several big lots and hope (or spot them, but if you spot them, others do that too which raises the auction price) that they include components of themes that sell well. Castle components or minifigures are almost always worth it.

If you buy only one lot for lets say 100, don't expect to make those 100+ from it alone. But if you buy 5x $100, then chances are big that you can actually put together a couple of sets that earn you more than 500, and you will have a lot of stuff left that can be completed with the next lot.

I still find it amusing how several pieces introduced in Bionicle are still colloquially referred to as their original purpose even after a decade of not being on shelves.

Bohrok eyes, Hordika necks, Keetorange as a concept, Piraka minifig spines (used as spiky vines nowadays), variations of Zamor launchers, Barraki eyes, (sometimes) Glatorian necks, and probably more generic pieces I can’t think of the name of right now.

After getting this guy in the first four bags I bought a couple weeks ago, I stopped by Walmart today to get another 4. Those aren't swirls from the plastic moulding process you see there but massive cracks.
Thing is, the part is made of softer plastic than the usual bricks so cracking like THAT shouldn't happen under normal circumstances, especially since it only has two small connection points on the back and was kept on the Iron Man CCBS figure where it originated from for most of the time so storage or excessive force are out of question.
What's even weirder is that I also have that part in a bunch of other colors but only the gold ones ever developed those cracks so it could be some sort of the infamous Gold Plastic Syndrome - something I always thought was more or less a thing of the past.

I don't mind most of the hard edged stuff (the five-er im not so crazy about), but they could use more saturated or basic colours. Like the dark blue and azure in the screen on the slope pictured on the right is fine. But i don't like the azure in the top left two slopes depicting buttons. The gray bottom left looks more versatile. (even if they could darken the gray just a bit, but i havent had them in hand.)
The phone on the bottom looks like a friends piece in style. All of them kind of do now that i think of it.

Honestly I find some overly detailed new prints and stickers more distracting than these.

Some thoughts on the new road plates;
>on a technical level they've got a good design
>it sucks the base road plate box doesn't come with any extra plates especially of the road line/zebra crossing print tiles
>the bar with a stud on top & a 2x2 antistud base is a nice new part that will 100% be used for laser cannons and other assorted weaponry going into the future
>there's a surprising amount of non-road potential for the plates, especially if they release a plain version of the 8x16 plate

All in all, aside from the (current) lack of any real curves they're a solid addition to the system

Thankfully I mostly have small sets outside of Bionicle. Anything crazy huge like the Saturn V or Vampire Castle condenses quite nicely, too.
That said any recommendation for general transit? If I just stuff bags of parts and a few complete sets (like hell I'll tear apart more solid constructions like the Tarakava) within boxes, they shouldn't be too bothered by the journey, yeah?

Not that I know of - 2620 comes close, but it's smaller and needs an old hinge base to work (like 4315), and 11289 has similar size and can be mounted on a simple clip, but it's kinda "curved" and has no side glass to speak of.

Or grab some direction reverser plates from Cobi or Bluebrixx and mount this one upside-down, I guess.

Here's how you can mount it in reverse using Technic lift arms (18654 in this case) at the bottom and some brackets at the top using pure common Lego parts. The downside is that it takes a bit of space - 2.5 plates at the bottom for the lift arms and 3.5 plates at the top for the bracket construction - and that you're working with half-plate heights, which can take a bit to get used to.

The few autistic adults that care -like me- are going to remove the pauldrons and add a black helmet from their own collection. The torsos and legs are the important part and I think they look great. Lego at its core should be about making OC. Sets and minifigures are meant to be repurposed.

Totally agree. The only way they'll redesign them is if they go through a period of terrible business that forces them to do drastic changes.
Adding new figure types (like the minidolls) might work as well.

It would be nice to have better articulation, but I still wouldn't want the basic silhouette to change. Adding new pieces, like the short/medium legs, and skirt pieces is a good start.
One thing I'd wish they'd introduce is a buff torso element to replace most bigfigs. I made a concept mockup a while back, I'd post it but we reached image limit

$0.10 per part is usually the sweet spot, though depending on a set’s build a higher or lower one may be more appropriate for fair value (lots of large pieces vs lots of little pieces).

Just like collecting a lot of cities and making dioramas with them.
I guess my brain is pretty set on it's ways of enjoying strange MOCs which space and scifi themes are more set for vs realism in citystuff.
