Most of the figures people remember fondly came out at the tail end of the line, whereas a lot of shelf clogging gimmick figs and toys with design flaws, like Lockdown's hands or Bumblebee's stingers, started to really hamper its reputation in the aspects Hasbro actually cares about. Couple that with CHUG getting older fan attention and the movie toys dominating shelfspace without having to compete with shelfwarming oversized electronic gimmick bricks, and the line was destined to get shoved aside despite any amount of success.
Also don't pretend that the Animated seeker toy was any good. Look at that altmode. Look at that bit mode!
