Terribly outdated figure, yet still the #1 option if you want a classic Bane that isn't absurdly out of scale, a dumb video game redesign, or in black and white for some reason.

The other two in the top three are the 5POA Batman & Robin figure, and the t-crotched Batman Missions Bane. After that, you have to make your own using the Marvel Universe Crossbones variant with the red eyes.

I don't know why it's so hard to just make a standard Bane that isn't some idiotic redesign.

I really like the size of the Mattel version, the packaging was nice too but this is much more accurate.The smaller Doomsday Mattel did was too bad either. I feel like he might get a Mafex release along with Bane. I hope all the other rogues that appeared in Hush get figures as well.

Found Commie Bastard Supes at Target. He's pretty good. Could have used a couple more hands, but the fact he comes with extras at all is a start. The stand isn't great, but it's cool he comes with one.

But it isn't worth getting too up in arms about. The classic characters will always be there, these random Bat variants won't be, and while I'm sure most everyone would prefer a regular Darkseid, they'll probably get to him eventually, while this is Darkfather's one and only shot (truth be told, for how little he did, I don't think he deserves a figure, this could have been the Crisis Darkseid that was there, a better Bat variant, or anything really, this guy got bodied and vanished after his 4 pages or whatever it was).

The thing is the dark multiverse bats are already done and gone and they barely did anything, so it's like were watching Todd slowly catch up to a roster of characters with no lasting value.
At least when DC direct did the Crime Syndicate characters for Forever Evil, they were doing characters who mostly had some history behind them.

It looks like it's basically action comics 1000 superman body from when the line started. Which, I've gotta say, was still a pretty solid superman aside from the mismatched hands, so I'm not too mad. But it also looks real stupid coming out a couple months after infected superman, which is an amazing toy in service of a bit part character.

Honestly, most of the Death Metal Bat variants had pretty phoned in costumes. Mindhunter was one of the few that looks like it had some thought put into it. I'd grab a 2-pack with Martian Manhunter.

Depends on what you got, stuff like the main Justice League guys, such as Flash and Superman were re-issued a number of times. I've seen a few on facebook marketplace recently for around the $20 to $25 mark. A few characters here and there are worth about $40 or more, and a few of the Collect and Connect figures are really pricy. Giganta's probably the most expensive of the Collect and Connect figures, because her head is so hard to find, because the figure it was packed with was very in demand, and that demand didn't seem to translate into those heads ending up on ebay. She sells for in the $300 price range.

I love 'em. As a line they ran for 15 years and began as a lower articulation line of Batman figures that the Four Horsemen did back in 2003, then became the DC Superheros line, before being branded as DC Universe Classics, as well as the Signature Collection and later DC Multiverse. They did a lot of figures and it's such a fantastic line. We'll probably never see the same variety in a DC line again.

Spin Master seemed to be aware that they made it to scale more with 6-inch figures and has made statements about how it fits them inside. I think they inherited some of the same teem from when Mattel had those Batman Missions series figures. In that line they also did a 12-inch scaled Batmobile that just so happened to fit the 6-inch DC Multiverse figures that Mattel was putting out as well, so I think it's intentional.

Well, I thought it came down to multiple factors.
From the stand point of ending the license with a previous manufacturer, clearly the license was revoked because they did something wrong, and jumping to the finish line, WB/DC felt a different manufacturer could generate a higher profit than the predecessor did. So assuming that increased profitability is what they are targeting, if WB/DC is telling every manufacturer what to make, and the problem with the predecessor was that DC wanted different toys than were being made, why didn't they just tell DCUC to make new toys instead of ones for Boomers?
I think part of manufacturers bidding for a license also includes how they plan to use the license. I think the reason comics publisher go to toy manufacturers is because they are comics publishers, and toy manufacturers might have a better sense of what sells better to toy purchasers. You can get into toy quality, especially if consumers bitch to WB/DC about a current license holder, but more than that I believe manufacturers are given the license and benefit of the doubt to have a better sense of what to make that will sell better because making and selling toys is a different business than writing/drawing/publishing comics.

In that regard, yeah, I think Todd Macfarlane, or whomever represented his toy business was able to get the DC license because they convinced DC that they knew what toys people would want to buy more than every other company that bid for it.

They also made their upcoming Hush Joker have a blue suit instead of purple because it looks blueish in a couple of panels. They might be fixing that though. Not what Scott Neitlich said. He said they wanted them to do that Yellow Lantern Batman, which they and Lego and even Funko all had to do, because DC said it was going to be a very big deal and that Batman would end up wearing the costume for at least a year in the comics. The reason they did so many figures was because Mattel and DC thought the tie-in would be bigger, so Mattel packed it with characters who they thought would be a big deal for fans.

There was a Sectaurs Kickstarter that just ended and it unfortunately didn't fund. Commenters were asking why not make some army builders out of the existing parts to get people to have more to add to their pledges, the creator said that the licensor didn't allow this. For the first KS that did have a couple of army builders it was allowed by the licensor because the designs were close enough to some designs from the old comics. Basically there was nothing else the KS creator could do other than the 4 base characters included. The licensor also decided that this was the last shot that creator would have with the license and their continued partnership would be contingent on the success of the KS.

Basically, my point is that the licensor has a lot of power in these relationships, and if the Sectaurs IP holder has that much power, I'd have to imagine that DC, WB, etc, have much more power that they could exercise if they so chose. And since we don't know how much of their power they're exercising, anything we posit is conjecture. Maybe it was "make the trinity and a couple villains for Death Metal", or maybe it was "make all these characters" and a list was shown. Or it could even just be suggestions, "The Batman isn't on schedule, but Snyder Cut JL is coming out, maybe you guys would like to make figures for that?" Either way we don't know the specifics, but we do know from what Todd said that they wanted Metal, and now JL.

I doubt Warner Bros took the licence away from Mattel. Mattel still gets to make Imaginext figures, which sold very well, and probably why Mattel chose to keep the license for those. Todd probably outbid Mattel on the adult collectibles side, since he was already a Warner Bros brand partner making figures for Mortal Kombat and Spawn appearing in the game, and now he also makes Injustice figures as part of his DC Multiverse line, so it probably made business sense in a way to shift from one brand partner to another, because Todd was involved in producing toys already. Todd also claims that he had meetings with Warner Bros about doing a project for DC but felates himself saying how DC is the competition, making a back handed statement in my opinion about a company he's making toys for.

Spin Master probably also outbid on the kids licence, which is weird that Todd wouldn't have gotten that also and really makes little business sense from a toy perspective. I can't imagine Spin Master putting out movie tie-in product, which would be the whole point of the kids license, yet Todd seems to be doing the movie tie-in toys, since he did the Wonder Woman figures. I don't really see how that works out for DC however to have someone like McFarlane doing the movie tie-in toys.

Do you even understand the toy market? This was DCD's territory. What McFarlane sells are childrens toys, hence being in the childrens toy aisles in Walmarts and Target. The license was also split up so that McFarlane and Spinmaster could do their own things.

This is obviously WB's doing, not just to see what shit will stick/hedging their bets but because since no other company who makes toys for boys is able to afford what Mattel was paying WB for the license. ... except for Hasbro. LEGO could, but doesn't.

I've seen the Arkham figures there too. Regardless, they're still stocked in that location so they're obviously seen as adult collectibles as well.

Your anecdotal evidence is great and all but I've seen enough evidence in person, and reported online, that the Arkham figures were being stocked in that section as well. I specifically remember in the DC threads here anons telling others to check the NECA section of their Targets when those figures first dropped.

It's pretty obvious the line is trying to make the best of both worlds. Trying to emulate Marvel Legends in everything except character diversity and consistent scaling.

Toys from Justice League and Batman vs Superman were both flops at retail and indeed the movies were negatively received and mainly bought by adult collectors who also didn't respond well to it, and adult collectors only account for 20% of a toy line's total sales- children make up the other 80% and if children don't want something and adults don't want something, then it's a critical failure since retailers wont buy more. Wonder Woman toys were also mediocre in sales, and this is further evidenced by the fact that the sequel movie is also a flop. Clearly McFarlane and Spin Master offered better deals than Mattel did to Warner Bros. The fact is it only hurts DC/Warner that Batman and the DC license is at a d-list toy company like McFarlane when it'd be better off at Mattel or Hasbro, and there's just no way it's going to Hasbro when Hasbro may as well be Warner's rival since they make Disney toys.

McFarlane's mainly a collector based toy company, and they're barely even that having been run into the ground for a number of years by Todd himself when he decided he hated articulated action figures and that collectors really just wanted statues, which pretty much led to the demise of the Spawn toy line and any credibility McFarlane toys had among collectors for years. It's honestly remarkable and perhaps stupid on Warner's part to essentially let him do the movie tie-in toys-- the toys that kids are supposed to want. Yet Spin Master, who is doing the kids toys is not doing the movie tie-in toys and is just sort of continuing Mattel's Batman Missions series figures in a smaller scale.

If you remember Forever Evil, this is a secondary clone of the same make up as that one, found by Red Hood and co-opted into his new Outlaws with heavy Lenny and Geoge dynamics which was sweet in it's own right. He eventually became a super genius, and then lost it as his genetic make up began breaking down. I'm not one to recommend Scott Lobdell, but if you can find the Rebirth run of Red Hood and the Outlaws, jump on that shit, because it was wonderful.

I don't think Todd's ever done a toy line at this scope before, at least not since his 90's Spawn toys, but those had more minimal articulation. Scott Neitlich claims on his youtube channel that tooling can be very expensive, and when he was at Mattel doing DC Classics saying it cost around $100,000 per figure that was fully tooled, and is more costly if you're casting multiple parts in different color plastics, because the tools, which are basically molds have to be run thru the machines multiple times, which increases the price. And that a partial tool could be around $20,000. He also said this is why you sometimes see toy companies cheat such as casting a figure in all one color plastic and then painting the entire thing, such as what Neca is doing with their cartoon TMNT line He said he experimented with the same idea on MOTU Classics in order to try and keep the figures under $30 by mass producing the parts all in one color, but the results were kinda shitty causing paint rub and chipping. They did that with Dragon Blaster Skeletor, casting him in black plastic and then painting the figure the right color. He also said this is why Mattel and Hasbro used basic bucks for their figures for DC and Marvel toys.

McFarlane's Halo line was very expansive, lots of repaints, etc. He's choosing to make things this way, and he's said he likes the fact that you can have a collection and most of them will have different silhouettes. Basically, he's making the figures this way by design, and he's obviously not had an issue with doing things this way. And as folks have told you in other threads, tooling is not that expensive. Maybe when Scott was talking about that he was talking about the entire process of sculpting tooling, etc, there's no way tooling alone for an action figure costs that much.

How do you know anon? Scott said every time you use a different color plastic for separate parts you have to essentially pay to have everything done a second, third, or fourth time depending on each additional plastic color you want to use. Super7 does a lot of casting in the appropriate colors, but they also charge around $45. Meanwhile companies like Neca choose to paint everything on the figure as a work around.

Some KS have been pretty transparent with their funding allocation, and I'm fairly certain at least one of the major companies brought up the cost of tooling before. It's in the 10s of thousands of dollars, and it's certainly one of the most expensive parts of the toy manufacturing process. But let's look at Valaverse's Action Force. Bobby's funding goal was 99k for 1 primary body, 2 different sets of torso armor, at least 3 heads, lots of weapons, etc. 99k is for paying for the tooling, the manufacturing, prototyping, shipping, KS fees, packaging, profits, etc. At 138k an entirely new mold was unlocked, so then that would require its own unique tooling on top of the all the other mentioned factors. Not to mention the much much smaller quantity of figures Vala will make compared to Mattel is enormous, and he'll surely have to pay the factories a lot more per unit for manufacturing than Mattel would have, so that would cut even deeper into that total he needed.
So ya, all that alone already tells you that tooling will not cost anywhere near 100k.

I'm not trying to disprove a toy company's claim, this is entirely Scott's. You can say you don't care about Vala's KS, but the same same could be applied for other KS, even 4H's. The first Mythic Legions KS had a funding goal of 140k, and there were multiple figures' worth of bodies in there, plus all the heads, weapons, and more.

That's the official reason Mattel gave. He was small on accident because when they approved him based on photos, he wasn't in a line-up with other figures in the same line for scale, so he looked alright, but ended up the wrong size. So to make up for it they released him in a two pack with Hal Jordan and fixed it.

They said the reason Big Barda was small was because she would have needed a special and unique buck like a Collect and Connect and she became low priority, because DC Direct was doing her anyway.

If you're in the Damian should be 4' tall camp that's fine, but it doesn't change the fact that per official sources he's the right height, which I assume is what they'll go with for the most part. Other than him, I don't think there's really been any questionable/debatable scaling for 2021 products.

And no, the old problems won't magically get fixed because future figures were "fixed". So if someone had that old Sinestro for example, Mattel releasing a new one won't suddenly make the short Sinestro not a problem. Likewise, McFarlane's wave 1 with their wonky issues won't be made better because future waves were improved.

About Todd thinking 7" scale means 7", maybe he does, and if that's so it's good of him to have admitted he was wrong in the video where he showcased Damian, talking about how it's something they're working on. And his team (because, I know it's surprising to some, McFarlane Toys isn't run and operated by just Todd) has also openly admitted various flaws to the line that they will get working on (which given general turnaround time, should be felt in 2021, for better or worse).

These licenses are for the LONG TERM, which is why Mattel would NEVER give up the license just because of a few set backs. Same way Hasbro RENEWED their license with Disney despite Star Wars falling way way down that it's no longer a premier franchise.

These are all costs that may not be a factor to someone like 4H or McFarlane, because 4H is a toy sculpting team and can do all that early prototype and design shit in their free time on their own dime and Todd runs a toy factory and can do the same and may not show up as a factor in the kickstarter.

You also have factors like the number of plastic colors used, which Scott says can get you as low as $35,000 for a tool, but that's based on size, complexity, and the number of parts, and that each color doubles or triples that number, because for each color the molds have to be re-run thru the injection molding machine, so for 3 colors it has be run 3 times. What's 3 times $35,000 anon? Scott says for example that the Classics Castle Grayskull cost upwards of $350,000 to fully tool.

There's also additional costs:
>Injection molded prototypes
>Color Models(something that may not be a factor for Todd for 4H)
>Re-tooling the molds based on the the injection molded prototypes and color model

How much of this was already in development by Todd for example ahead of time, since he runs a toy factory?

There's also things like the initial QC run of figures which by contract with Chinese factories require a company like Mattel to make an initial 2,000 figures just to get them to even bother to make a final test run. Mattel as part of this takes 6 random figures from the lot to inspect. Many of those other figures from the 2,000 may make it into retail and is how running changes can happen. This is how shit happened like Super7's Club Grayskull Teela having the wrong hip pins on a certain number of figures. After this initial 2,000 companies like Mattel then make their final number of figures.

We've seen from at least a DOZEN companies using Kickstarter to fund their toylines and none of them need as much funding as you said just to make SINGLE toy.
Most of these companies have NOTHING to do with the industry, so they did NOT get the rates Mattel would be able to get. Even those who worked in the industry have never had shit done in China, so they're starting at square one too. And those that HAVE had shit produced by China? They do not have the high production numbers to get the discount rates Mattel gets. So neither McFarlane nor 4H get that sweetass deal.

To explain away the fact that Mattel is a monster of a company that pulls a ton of weight onto Chinese factories, you need to pretend that they don't get prototypes or other processes Mattel does, despite the fact every kickstarter showing off the various prototypes and struggles with quality control.

Here's another kickstarter where two variants were able to be produced for $64k and to make a profit for the company. A figure that has more articulation than a DCUC toy (which requires more molds to be produced) AND a bunch of accessories (something most DCUC figures never got. 50% smaller yet it costs 136% less than what Crimson Commander is lying about.
Did i mention that at $64k, the company producing the toy is making a PROFIT? Because Crimson Commander claims that 100k is JUST to produce a toy, before selling the figure to profit from it.

There could be a number of factors as to why those companies paid less to make a figure. Maybe the run was smaller. Maybe the factory was worse and therefore shittier. An accessory would NEVER cost that much. Something like THIS may cost in the tens of thousands https://i.4cdn.org/toy/1611926611820.jpg because it's pretty complex because it houses multiple pieces, but an accessory piece would never cost that much unless the entire large mold is made ONLY for that accessory piece.

Pic is from a FAQ by a molding company to answer simple questions they don't want to repeat themselves for.
This is for an AMERICAN molding company, NOT Chinese. So a Chinese company would be much more CHEAPER than the prices quoted here.

It depends for me. If they take it seriously then yeah it's a problem. If it's something like Injustice where they embrace how stupid it is and are just having fun then I'm ok with it. I enjoy stories like IJ because they totally own how stupid the story is. It just becomes fun at that point.

After watching the few videos that exist for Bane, it seems like it's just hard to push the pegs in properly.
The leg joints do look like they'll be hard to put in because the "shorts" are getting in the way of putting the peg in all the way.
