I can't fucking believe this is the only time we ever got robo-dinosaurs as toys.

Is anything similar currently on the market? I have a mighty need for a cyborg/fully robotic dinosaur but I can't seem to find any at a decent price.

G2 flopped for a long list for reaons (tl;dr it was an inside job) but people disliking it because it's a "deviation" from normal Lego is not one of them. Only boomers think of Bionicle as a "deviation", anyone under 30 just sees them for what they are, that is buildable action figures.

Found this Super Dinosaur figure here in the US at a Burke's Outlet Store just this past December. He was cheap at $10, big, and just a fun goofy looking figure that tickled my inner 10 year old self.

But he turned out to be a major disappointment.

The plastic he's made out of is really thin & brittle. So brittle, that I doubt he could take a shelf dive without smashing into many, many pieces. For a toy that's aimed at younger kids, this is a bit disconcerting. Second major flaw is that he's very limited in articulation. Jaw, neck, tail, shoulders, legs. He's got cuts which look like to be moveable joints at the ankles, wrists,and elbows, but they're not moveable. The elbows are the worst offender because they look like they were originally intended to move, but somewhere down the design line, that point of articulation was nixed. I'm guessing that alot of kids snapped off SD's arms because they thought it could move.

All in all, a real letdown toy of a fun character concept. Avoid at all costs.

He's actually a fun, chonky toy... but in the "wtf" decision of the line, the deluxe figure doesn't have elbow joints. Those arms are fused. He's 5 poa, 6 if you count the jaw.

It's "Battlesaurs" from "The Toy Story That Time Forgot" short. The guy in OP's image is the main hero dino, Reptillus Maximus. He was a pretty cool looking toy, but Mattel gave him the shaft and reduced his articulation like they do with all TS figures& toys.

Pixar actually hired TRIGGER do a Saturday morning cartoon-like opening for Battlesaurs. And it is AWESOME.

It hasn't been a year and the RAW10 line is already forgotten? For shame. It does have a cyborg dino, though it's not very good due to its awkwardly pre-posed sculpt. The snake and the shark on the other hand are great and they're /toy/-approved.

Have you seen The Toys That Made Us? That series made me feel sick. These talented men who sacrificed their creativity and designs on the almighty altar of profit. These beloved icons for so many children only exist to enrich already rich old white men. Gross. It's literally taking advantage of children to make money.
Japan only has a little of that. The artist and design come first and it's up to the marketing team to sell it.

I have not, but I will likely check it out. I enjoy looking into the history of toy design and alot of the artists that really made toys like the tmnt line shine. I just recently listened to Scott Hensley on Jesse Destasio's podcast. Scott is the artist who sculpted shredder and a whole heaping amout of other playmates and galoob molds. Apparently he was a big fan of the comic and really wanted him to scale with the turtles making him taller, last minute he was told that wouldnt work on the size of the blister so he just squished his mold so it would fit. And thats why he is hunched over like that, here we are nearly 30+ years later and there are still homages to that toy's design, no one can tell one of these cgi cartoon toys from another.
