>waves 2, 3, and 4 will arrive in rapid succecession with Thundercats, but because Covid delays wave 2 ended up taking way longer than it should have and got delayed at the factory, so Wave 3 will end up coming out before wave 2, but because of this, wave 3 will show up, then shortly after wave 2, then shortly after that wave 4. >Wave 5 is ready, but they don't want to show it off yet, because they want people to buy into the Thundertank right now >because of covid they couldn't visit the chinese factories and just quickly make replacement accessories for wave 1 of Thundercats, and because of Chinese travel restrictions they couldn't visit factories, which seem to also be part of the reason wave 2 was so delayed as well. >It takes 2 to 3 weeks right now to book cargo onto a ship, and then another 6 weeks to get it just on the ship. He said before Covid it took only 2 or 3 days to get items that needed to be shipped overseas to get booked onto a ship. >Says material margin costs on vinyl and plastics are rising because of ppe products to make masks and shit because of covid, and suggests this affecting toy prices-- this might explain the $55 price tag on the the Transformers Ultimates. >tooling costs a shit ton. Brian explains that it's crazy expensive to tool a vehicle compared to a playset and that it's costing about the same as Snake Mountain, because of all the tiny moving parts, when playsets are just essentially large sheets of plastic that connect together and very empty inside. Brian says it's costing way more than $100,000 to tool this vehicle and suggests that $100,000 is like a base rate >He says that they may also end up only make a few thousand of these, like 2,000 and the price to make this and toll this has to be divided up by 2,000 or so sales, which forces the vehicle to cost as much as it does cost. >>8740725 Continued:
>If he could sell as many Thundertanks as Hasbro did Razor Crest Haslabs, he could afford to make it $100 cheaper, because the cost of making it is then spread out across 28,000 vehicles. >He also says that making a retail vehicle is even cheaper, because stores like Wal-Mart will buy like 50,000 of something for their entire chain, which then greatly cuts the cost. And that that would just be for Walmart, and not include other retailers such as Target. So, the Thundertank costs as much as it costs, because so few are expected to be produced, and the tooling is crazy, and plastic prices are ballooning because of Covid, and this is cheap plastic and a hollow vehicle like the Spin Master Batmobiles.
>Also says prices to make things in China keeps growing, because China as a country keeps growing and every year prices go up by 10%, every single year. And because of this many toy companies are leaving China to make toys in cheaper countries. Brian says 10 years from now China may lose a lot of American factories for cheaper countries, because China has priced themselves out.

Also using a 100k+ as a baseline when talking about Snake Mountain and the Thundertank makes sense, not a single figure. Though he also suggests a probably more accurate 350-400k tooling cost.

I guess part of it is it makes Thundercats Ultimates the "premiere" collection to have for a Thundercats figure fan, so anyone getting the Thundertank would probably also be going all-in on most waves.
Crimson Commander !!uoqqXVkn8aK
>>8740824 You know I was thinking about profit margins for Star Wars TVC the other day, because I heard how little Hasbro really makes on each Black Series figure, and how after paying licensing fees, they're probably only making like around $2 a figure-- they don't sell them to retailers for $20, the retailers generally pay half that, more like around $10 a figure but sell them for twice as much to turn a profit. I've also heard from people who worked on the 50th G.I. Joe line that 1:18 costs about as much as 1:12 to make and that the price of plastic between the two is really negligible. So, like if the tooling costs about the same, Hasbro is basically breaking probably if Star Wars TVC sells for like $14 or $15 a figure. And so it's not even worth it really for them to produce the figures since they make all the real money on the $20 figures because collectors feel that size denotes quality, but if fans were willing to pay $20 for a 1:18 they'd be flooding the market with them.

Vaguely related, I realized that the Super7 guy saying that the reaction TMNT line was a clue about what disguises the turtles were going to be in this year, which is fine because we all kinda expected the original wave (trenchcoat Donnie, space Raph, samurai Lego, surfer dude Mikey), but then again, I also realized we can use the reaction line to predict that the inevitable krang won't be the small-scaled android body after all.

I’m very curious to see what they do with MMPR. I have zero nostalgia for any of the non-Zord toys. Figuarts are the only line to nail the look. I have the team in LC, but if S7 can combine the articulation of those with the SHF styling for an in-between price I will be all over them.

>>8743054 Retroblasting from my understanding believes that toy companies are lying to you regarding how much it costs to tool a toy, particularly vehicles and playsets, and lying about stores not being able to carrying such toys, and he's vocal about this as well. He also believes that size dictates price, and that if Mattel can produce an oversized Jurassic World T-Rex for like $50 using cheaper plastic and basically being hollow on the inside, that Hasbro is lying when they ask for a high price for a large Millennium Falcon with electronics inside and lots of small parts and and a very detailed tool heavy sculpt. He actually believes this. He actually made that comparison and reviewed Jurassic World toys just because he wanted to bitch about Hasbro. I went and dragged out the video where he does it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XxSpUFXMw0 He also made a big stink about the Galaxy's Edge Falcon being sold at Target, which was only sold there, because of the Covid shutdown, because they were a Disney Park exclusive from understanding and therefore produced in low numbers. I went and searched twitter just to find his complaints over this:
https://twitter.com/moviegeek/status/1285574269066522624 He also complained over the Haslab ML Sentinel and the Razor Crest, and is still fuming over the Jabba Sail Barge.
But as you heard in the Pixel Dan interview, stuff like for example a playset is often just hallow sheets of plastic that lock together, and a Thundertank for example has tons of moving and intricate parts that each need tools, and stuff like sculpt details for buttons and monitors also need tools.

Crimson Commander !!uoqqXVkn8aK

Neca's doing one pretty soon and I don't think they want to create or force a situation where there's competing pre-orders for Turtle Vans. Super7 doesn't even have all 4 turtles out yet and wont until like next fall, so there's no hurry to do a Party Wagon. I think they'll sell a lot of Party Wagons when they eventually do it. Anonymous
>>8741209 >Literally for what purpose? Depends on what you mean. Why storage shells or what would I buy them?
Why would they do storage shell turtles? To give a semi-second chance for collectors to get themselves a full 4-man turtle set after the first set has been out for a while and latecomers start checking out the company which is notorious for never re-releasing anything (except for the first time, wave 1 of turtles because of insane demand for the full team). Having said that, storage shell turtles might not be next. After costume turtles, we might get cave-man turtles, secondary costume wave turtles, or maybe even Universal Monster turtles. (They have both licenses, technically.)
If you mean why would I buy a storage shell turtle, then the answer is - I had storage shell donnie as a kid and loved that toy so a 6 inch recreation of it would be a direct hit right in the nostalgia button for me.
Anonymous
>>8739508 Here's a debate for you, anon.
Bronx is smaller than the other gargoyles, but requires the same level of articulation.
So would his modern toy, assuming a gargoyles set, contain another giant accessory to fill up his packaging and make him look worth the value of the other figures? Or would he be cheaper because he's half the size? Or would he be the same cost and minimal accessories because he's as complicated and articulated as the bigger toys and costs the same to produce even if he's physically smaller?

Anonymous
>>8744450 To do storage shells they would need to redesign the entire torso. There is nowhere to store things in there, there's a balljoint setup for the waist swivel/ball and obviously, that means that not only is the space occupied, but the torso is not one unbroken piece. You'd need an all-new one-piece torso with no waist movement, which would be expensive and probably piss some people off.
I loved storage shell too as a kid (mostly for the brutal-looking headsculpts), but it just isn't really something that translates well to a figure with modern articulation.
Anonymous
>>8744458 Bronx is actually pretty big, and he is definitely the thiccest. He's a big ol' lump. So I don't think we have to worry about getting our money's worth there. I think if anything, Lexington is the concern--he's both very skinny and short. If we were really going in on a line and trying to make everyone, I would pack Lex with baby Alex and a crib, or maybe even Boudicca, who is noticeably smaller than Bronx.
Anonymous
>>8744494 How could the wings even work properly?
Anonymous
>>8744494 I want a set up similar to Power Wing Goliath but in plastic. basically they'd fan out. Maybe not entirely accurate, but close enough. You'd need revoltech engineering at least to pull off more poses and I don't think S7 is up for that.

We're just brainstorming possibilities here. Obviously the Super7 guys have some rough idea. Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>8744508 Anon's (reasonable) completely unfounded asspull best guess is that no one has figured that out for a modern toy yet, which is why the disney line had 3 figures instead of the typical 4.

>>8744508 I'd be okay with swappable sets of open and closed wings. Yeah, it'd tack on some cost, but Super 7 hasn't yet been too shy about excess, like giving us an entire separate set of painted weapons in TMNT Ultimates just because people complained about the sprue marks. IIRC they're even giving us the spare sprues for figures that never came with them originally.
The only real problem is Lexington, whose wings attach to his arms. I don't really know what to do there. There isn't really a good solution for that so far, you either end up with limited arm range, or strange disconnected wings that only look good in a few poses, like Marvel Legends Black Bolt.
Anonymous
>>8744494 Jesus. He is indeed chunky. I didn't realize Bronx was that big comparatively, it's been a while since I re-marathoned the show. He's basically human height if you stood him upright...
Lex is a special set of problems all on his own because of his unique dragon lizard "wings" and how hard they'd fuck up arm articulation in every possible way you'd try to design around it. It all depends on how they do they would do wings for the other characters. As for filling in the size, I'd wager them putting in a few tech gadgets instead of a full new character. Maybe a laptop and Hudson's tv. Or alternatively they could give a ton of extra body parts (compared to the typical alt head / hands) and include full alternate arm, head, and tail, to make the future tense cyborg version of him, which I don't recall the other characters having versions of.
The best hint we could get about how Lex would turn out is how they handle the similar problem with Wilykit and Wilykat for the Thundercats.

>>8748996 Radio silence on that at the moment. The last Brian said is that wave 2 is coming, and that wave 1 was originally supposed to be 4 figures, but one got cut at the last moment and bumped to wave 2. He said he wants to do a Robinhood figure and said that's why he did Prince John first, so you'd know to expect a Robinhood. Also some toys seem to have gotten delayed because of Covid, such as his Japanese Wrestlers line and Thundercats Wave 2. Brian said China has all kinds of travel restrictions between different areas that factories are located and it makes visiting them a pain in the ass and even getting the toys out of the country a complicated affair that involves waiting several weeks just to get your toys on a boat.
Brian might still be dragging out news that he's saving. He's doing an interview on TMNT this week that more or less flew under the radar.

>>8740952 Hasbro Marvel Legends tend to be $22.99 each, McFarlane DC Multiverse tends to be $19.99 a pop, Super7 Ultimates tend to be between $44.99 and $54.99.
What were they thinking?

>>8753281 This right here is what I have been thinking for the better part of a year. Really since ML started to do the anniversary waves in the summer time. Since then, the amount of product has been INSANE and I feel like the market can only handle so much. I think we will see something akin to what happened to the comics industry in the mid-90s. Holograms and Holofoils can only last but so long.
As to the conversation about the value of the Ultimates - that will vary from person to person. But for me, I feel like the Super7 items are great pieces and are worth the price. I like how Brian likens his company to an action figure boutique in the interview with Pixel Dan. When my wife goes to a nice boutique, I expect that she will have a nicer blouse than the one hanging at Target. Same is true with toys.
At the end of the day, it's a great time to be a collector and options are great. My fear is that in the next decade we will see a burst in the bubble and then long for the days of Super7.

>>8753281 Well the major difference is that those are all retail lines and are made on mucu greater numbers compared to Ultimates which are made to order.
When someone, no matter what, is made in such a large amount the overall price goes down.

>>8750498 Funny. On his stream with Vala the other night, he didn’t go hard on Classified as I thought they would.
Vala mentioned he tried to get Silverhawks to make them a halo jump/ air team for his Action Force line but it was tied as a package deal with TCats.
Maybe S7 should go after Power Lords and make Ultimates for them so they can be sculpted by the 3 Neckbeards.

Speaking of though, toyguru is going to do a video about that, about why that stuff costs so much and why it's not sold at retail so that'll be interesting.
