The problem with the mp line is it kept changing, mp1 tried to be an adult collectable and focused on that with all the bells and whistles and a shitload of diecast, sure it could have been designed better but the time was different so I can forgive that.
Then we had mp10, trimmed out the fat and made for a better action figure, one that kids and adults can enjoy (well, older kids, teens preferably) as it had an intuitive transformation while still having a collector's feel to it (could have done without the rubber tires though but that's a longevity thing), I wouldn't call it perfect, but it was a mix of a great stylized figure that was just fun
It was also very practical, unlike pic related, while he looks great in all modes (the back is nit picky honestly) it was also VERY impractical, what's the point of painting the whole thing where the clearances are so tight he'll scratch up like a mother fucker, let alone some joints being so tight there COULD be some breakages (the barrel is my issue but I'm more careful than most gorillas who did complain), and to chrome him up again considering the mp hotrod they released with chrome that flakes off at the touch of a finger is plain stupid.
And lately, mp's that could have been simple have been made unnecessarily complicated just to prove their engineering magic, but with so much paint and clearly designed to look good from 3/4 of their robot modes (or beast) rather than taking mp10's way and making a decent compromise so they look ok from all angles leaves you wondering just why?
Granted, you don't post them with the back facing towards (I beg to differ, turn table masterrace) but it's kinda baffling, the change in designers didn't help.
That said mp skids you can't possibly fuck up and mp starscream 2.0 seems to have that compromise down and while I did rant about beast wars a little in most cases it can't be helped.
I still would rather practical figures that let you have a little, childish fun
