Once again I'm trying to get into making a 32x32 modular scale moc. My main inspiration is art deco type architechture. The building is 20 wide and the neighbouring building will be some kind of asian influenced building. It's daunting realizing slowly how much parts I'll need if I want to finish this.

An Art Deco modular would be awesome, I've never seen one. Art Deco is a pretty untapped aesthetic in LEGO, definitely worth doing.

I hope that guy gets a promotion or they end up doing some of his other designs they showcased. There's a lot of really impressive ideas and I think a line of "Lego Plants" would be really cool.

Something about white bricks makes them look best in renders.
I find these settings work best for photorealism: Darker background, "Mechanic" light setting at intensity 1.35, and a low fov (around 15) to avoid fisheye.

I'm not really into lego but are the small sets you buy still bad?
I remember when I got small sets for birthday they were only for building but all the bricks were useless for everything except building what the instructions said so even if you got many sets they rarely expanded your options

i think the blacksmith shop is one of the best lego sets in recent memory, the tree is a chore to build but it's a really fantastic experience. hopefully more castle stuff is on the way

That is on a set by set basis. I think some of the small sets are really nice.

I too think lego designers are far too reliant on specialized pieces. They are pulling off impressive feats of engineering, but at the expense of ease of access on creativity for children. It ends up creating a steep learning curve when everything is so specialized. I'd recommend looking into the brick packs on their website for blocks or -I mean this unironically- the Minecraft licenseshit. They are excellent brick parts pack.

I don't think I'm interested in picking up any parts, maybe one of the cool recent sets but kind of unlikely.
I may not own any legos anymore anyway, there's a chance I gave them to my brother or maybe they belong to my family's house and are to remain there idk
I was never THAT into lego anyway, I used them a bit but I think I was more into duplo

I think I found the set I remember as being the worst, I may have owned this, so stupid parts. picture.

I think my brother owns a boat where the entire boat is one piece and there are only decorations you get to add yourself

They probably won't bring back an old color just for one set, but ~10 molds isn't that hard to believe. Some of the reasons:
1. it would please the fans
2. 90th anniversary with a big poll that was hyped on the biggest lego communities, it would be a satisfying reward
3. they regularly make molds they use just for a single set or year, like the arcade pods from last year or big printed parts for 4+ sets
Honestly, it's hard to tell what would be the move that would please the majority of bonklefags. If space/castle wins you just make a big spaceship/castle and the castlefags/spacefags will surely buy it. With bonkle, you need a brilliant idea to not piss off g1 fans/ccbs retards/systemfags/normies.

Taking a break from building my own stuff, built a couple of the flying boat seaplane of 31064 Creator Island Adventures, one a straight version in black, the other this more colorful version with slight modifications. Made the interior a bit more roomy and changed the props to four bladed. The blade colors were arbitrary; my 1x3 tile supply is woefully inadequate at the moment.
The main reason for building this second one was an abundance of those curved slope pieces from a prior PaB purchase, same story for those curved tile pieces on top. The room's lighting sucks unfortunately but I really like this plane, more so than the all-black version surprisingly. Flying boats are a bit under-represented in Lego, most seaplanes tend to be the pontoon style to get away with using their large airplane pieces. The other significant one they did was the 5935 Adventurers Island Hopper, got a black and white version stored somewhere and might build another sometime, perhaps a variant with this other one's wing style to use more of those curved slopes.

That's awesome anon! I see you've built some of the official sets with your own parts. I recently also got into collecting TT as well. Back in 2005 I was already one foot into a dark age, and the only theme I was into was bonkles. However the early waves are still nostalgic to me from catalogs etc. The brick street getaway is my grail atm, the one with that fantastic Charger-style inspired muscle car.

Currently CAD planning this moc. YES - CAD.

I did some research to find more pics of the set, to see exactly what Flitwick is standing on and understand the layout of the room.
Turns out it's an actual (now unused) classroom in a school in Harrow, London. The students have been carving their names on the walls since the 17th century.

Digital building is great, it allows you to explore every possibility; I usually plan digitally and then build IRL, buying the pieces I don't have. Often I refine the builds as I'm building them, having real pieces in your hands gives you a proper understanding of build sturdiness.

People that shit on CAD are smoothbrains with poor spatial reasoning, they need physical blocks to constrain legal connections for them.

Just don't build with illegal connections, 90% of the time you can tell and it looks like a shitty CAD anyways.

Rear end is slighty too short and to fix that I'd replace 3x1 slopes with 2x1 slopes. You will get 1 stud of flat free space giving it proper 'boxy' E30 looks. Your looks more like Adui Quattro for now. That change is important and it is a trademark of E30.

I think so, yeah. I just don't like the scale - it's too much for minifig but not enough for a proper model scale. It seems either too tall or too bulky. E30 is blocky and boxy but also kinda flat but if you are going with certain look then these slopes and rear window is the only thing I would change.

I agree, going forward what I think I'll do is proportion it like I've seen some Blender Artists do it- have a 2D side/top view, and place critical components relative to that, that way proportions are locked in from the start.

Maybe I'll return to the E30 and reproportion it someday, it would be a big overhaul however... I'd have to redo the whole thing basically, redo a lot of the custom decals.

I'm working on an early 2000's Subaru WRX tuner right now, inspired by this Tiny Turbo. I want it to have purple underglow lol. I'll try this new proportioning technique on that.

This. Proportions are the key. It doesn't matter if it is classic 4 wide, 6 wide 8 wide or more. If you get them right your creation will look good no matter what. I remember browsing MOC pages and it's incredible that people often put a lot of effort into small details but in the end the main shape of the vehicle was so much off so these things didn't matter anyway. Too tiny wheels, too tall, too short wheelbases etc.

This is the perfect example of well proportioned Tiny Turbo. That series was full of hit-or-miss sets. Some were really nice and some were worse than something randomly made by a kid. And even as a kid I didn't like like half of them. 1st series was great. I remember black muscle car and something similar to Lotus.

I will just say I'm also from eastern europe. It's bad in the whole country but really bad at my place where I am. The only local IT company is so underworked that we are getting paid based on performance, which is hard if out of the 8 hours of the worktime you only get like 1 bug reports that you solve in 1,5 hours, which has been the case since the pandemic began, if there even is work at all. There are maybe 1 or 2 really active months in a year where I experience real all-time work, then my paycheck can reach a 800-900$.

I do try get money from elsewhere as freelance, but that doesn't change the fact that my official job is horrible, but I just don't have the money to move away yet

I love my 75003 A-wing that you got many years ago. I know its off-model with the pushed in nose, but I always thought it looked badass.
Still felt cheated how just a few years later, Lego made new fin parts specifically for the A-wing.
But 60+ dollars for the 75175 A-wing when I don't even like the front design of it and the stupid spring shooters... I've been pondering about it for 3 years

Finally only two weeks ago I decided, f*** it, best things in legos I can build my own stuff. So I downloaded the pdf of both instructions, build them in Stud.io to compare them and well

Today I got all the parts to MOD my 75003 into this Hybrid A-Wing. All parts costed around $25 total with shipping. I'm really proud of the design, I even fit in the landing gear, with a little change, and its fits nicely between the gun and the engines.

I call it a MOD, but really it think it has very little originality, its more like a Hybrid, only its not that either since it needed parts not present in either sets, so I guess it's counts as a MOC. But let me know what you think, do you think it looks nice? I'm pretty happy with it!

Really like the gun and cockpit design! A pity it has to be held up by those "clear" technic piece, I would beef up the legs rather than to have to do that, but I get it that the thin legs give it a more steampunky/industrial style

I really disliked what they did with slope thats suppose to be behind the cockpit.
Also I just like the red-white color variation more.

But yeah, I had the seem feeling about the exhaust wings originally, but now that I hold this version in my hand it kinda grew on me, it has better unity with the 2819 gray technic steering wheel is smaller and leaves a bigger gap between the fins and the wing which doesn't look nice.

However, i have a strong feeling that Star Wars is the reason that Lego does not want to do "Space" as a theme any more. And that sucks.

Original Space sets could be amazing, and it can be tiring to only get sets based on movie props... but it also undestandable that that line would compete with Star Wars... Galaxy Squad was ok-ish, and Mars Mission was actually kinda cool.
Space Police (i assume you are talking about Space Police III) i did not like.

For me Space is things like Spyrius, Ice Planet, UFO etc.. They could have expanded this with new factions forever.

fair point. But its become a trend in lego a long ago that there need to be opposing sides within one theme, its not really Star Wars's fault that the mentality of Cops-Robbers, Pirates-Navy etc lines destroyed the idea of solo faction themes
