Does anyone else always wash their hands before touching/posing their figures, be it cheap domestic stuff or imports? Or am I mentally handicapped?

I wash my hands about 90% of time when I'm handling my figures. I also do a quick surface wipe down of the area I'll be using.

Lube is left on from the manufacturing process and you can feel it when handling practically every brand out there.
I'm a bit of a tactilephobe when it comes to that greasy feeling, so i started to wash my figures. Only real benefit you actually get from this is that dust doesn't stick on as easily, since that lube acts like a shitty glue.

Also, fuck dirty chinaman germs and their unwashed hands spreading their shit particles everywhere.

99% of the time yes, especially when trying to get a specific pose on a figure for my specific import figures and scales. That pepperoni grease can leave nice fingerprints on your fingers attracting dust and making it stick.

I usually put gloves on. You can get a shit ton of them for $5-$10. Just make sure to get the non-powder ones.

Anyone who doesn't is just lazy desu.

Not him, but it depends on the figure. Figma and Revoltechs I usually do a quick rinse even if I haven’t touched anything like food, clay, epoxy putty, etc. . Now stuff like Marvel Legends, Star Wars Black Series, etc I usually don’t bother washing my hands unless they’re messed from the stuff mentioned above.

Anyway, no, I wash my hands regularly during the day, I cook and do dishes and wash my hands regularly as a natural result of both, I wash my hands after eating if there's grease or food on my hands. No, I'm not worries that my hands have acquired the fully unique and 100% special power of breaking down plastics with my mere touch, not even expensive figures. There's no need to wash my hands an additional, magic time before making contact with toys.

Generally no, I habitually wash hands fairly often. Touching Funko's toys actually makes my hands dirtier than they were before even when brand new. But I do wear gloves when cleaning pricey figures with lots of white or clear plastic, I don't want finger oils to contribute to their yellowing.

I'm pretty autistic about keeping my hands clean. I always wash my hands after going to the bathroom. They feel wrong if I don't.

human oils don't do shit. Not enough of it.
Any wear and tear on your figure comes solely from the friction of you holding and moving it around.

Dust your figures every couple of months and you shouldn't be having any problems. IF you don't leave them out, who cares then. Clean it when you start noticing it becoming dirty.

You think you can "wash away" the oils your skin produces? A big part of the reason that water runs off of you in the shower is because the oil in your skin is a natural water repellent. You can't "wash it off".

When I get a pre-owned figure I definitely make sure I wash my hands before hand, and clean it myself with a damp cloth and soap.

do you have cats, rabbits, or are you going bald?

Also, my advice for dusting is more if you don't wash your figures, because of that lube.
It can cake on depending on how much is left over and can get hard to take off, since it can affect the paint.
Plasticizers that leak can cake it on as well.

It's just general advice, to ensure it doesnt go to shit and becomes difficult to clean.

If your shit is leaking plasticizer, it's screwed anyway. That doesn't really happen much with modern toys anyway. Maybe if they are kept in a very hot environment?

IT happens with toys still, because toy companies are constantly taking up new engineering, colors, and plastics. There's always going to be unknown reactions and i think most current effects happen with the plastics becoming brittle, not the stickiness.

Still, it takes a while before we start seeing the issues. So we really don't know which modern toys are going to start going bad prematurely until 3-5 years from now. Stuff like pic has his pants flaking apart, which is definitely a plasticizer issue.

I had a RD Dann of Thursday from Amiami that was beginning to leak it...then the joints exploded out of no where because Bandai was stupid enough to use clear plastic as joints, so that wasn't the biggest issue.
