Does anyone have good/clever examples of robot toys that change volume when they transform?
I remember this type of setup from somewhere, I think it was a sentai figure?

All of these feel way bigger in robot mode without cheating like in your pic.

Dx9 mightron. Arms and legs gain additional bulk from "mass shifting" panels. The transformation in those areas is unlike anything else I've seen, so simple but so intuitive.

It's not really mass shifting, but I feel like this might be relevant to OP's interests just because of how nutso the engineering is. The fucking thing practically turns itself inside out during transformation, AND has a smaller figure hidden inside it.

This thing still personally offends me so fucking much.
I've not kept up with with transformers since the combiner/prime war days but have they moved in a similar direction or did they learn their lesson from the later shitty movie lines?

Forget the sentai name but the lost galaxy gorilla zord became the legs by shifting its chest down to form shin armor and having the arms swing into the sides of the shins to fill them out

Watched a review of the entire Gingaioh and both the gorilla and lion seems really satisfying to transform with all these big shapes shifting around and into themselves.
