I think most Lego purchasers today don't MOC. They display kit Lego because they find even following the instructions a "challenge" that they're actually proud of following along pictorials prepared for 5yo kids. It's sad.

If something is not a painted decal, it shouldn't be a sticker. Using stickers for every detail, grills, headlights, even vents is very lazy.

ITS lego! What about using your fantasy? Where is the creativity?

But you know, I could forgive printed pieces, even stickers... if the car model would be more accurate. How many Corvettes are single seaters? Not many and certainly not the C7 line. It is possible, look at the lego vintage car.

Yea, they do rely on stickers quite a bit, but the newer ones are getting better. I really like the Mustang Fastback rear, and now with 8 wide, there's a lot more room for brick built detail.
I love the GTR, it looks great even without stickers.

6-7-8 wide - doesn't matter. The main issue is massive bulky height. Supercars are low and sleek and SpeedChampions are massive/. This blog covers the issue perfectly and I follow his tips when I'm designing my own cars.

I agree, partially. The author of that blog makes decent looking sculptures that look like cars. He represents, however, one philosophy of building with LEGO. He makes extensive use of SNOT to hide all the studs, and prioritizes proportions and creative brick use over playability and structural integrity. This is the sort of MOC that looks good in a photo, but if you look at it the wrong way it falls apart. Hell, some of his wheel designs don't even turn.

The problem with "minifig scale" is that the vertical / horizontal proportions aren't maintained. If you want a LEGO car to be shorter than a Minifig, it's simply not happening, with the brick pallette we have- with the size of even the smallest bricks at all.

Honestly, the proportions of minifigs are a little retarded, I understand and really appreciate the charm, but I sometimes wonder what would have been if LEGO went with the bigger figs we saw in Toy Story sets.

This outlines the problems of scale when it comes to minifigs. I don't really concern myself with Minifig scale when building cars, because I want the proportions to look good foremost. I really like the philosophy of official Speed Champions sets, especially the 8 wide ones. If you think you can do better, show me better.
But having a bunch of connections that rely on hinges or rods and 1x2 jumper snot fuckery isn't any better and clipping and floating parts in a cadfag render.
That being said, the author is a great builder, I love the blue 1x2 curve slope flush with the perpendicular black 1x2 slope on the side here. That's smooth.

i just finished building it, man, what a wonderful set. a little challenging because the instructions give no punch list or any kind of like "this is where this piece goes!" so i had to unlock that extra 10% of my brain. after everything, this is one of my favorite sets of all time.

other anon here, but I agree with them on it that the Speed Champion sets are not really nice builds, especially with them using a bunch of stickers as important details for a car. They are not more on-model than this papercraft lambo.

And for stylized builds that suppose to be like Funko Pops, they are too expensive. If they are going to make stylized versions, they shouldn't pay companies for their car licenses, they should do like GTA and make parody brands inside the lego universe.

Some people say they hate the Star Wars lineup because it fucks with the chances of getting any other spece theme. I think Speed Champions made cheaper Lego Racer lineups impossible.

I kinda want to make a one-person spaceship based on the ships in The Expanse (so not that futuristic). It would basically be a small room with a rocket engine an an airlock strapped to it. The room would contain a chair with a screen, a collapsible bed attached to a wall and a small kitchen. Plants would be growing on every available wall for fresh oxygen production.

The only problem is that I'd need to get good with CAD first to make my entry look decent. Also maybe the part limit.

If it's 150-250 your idea is not happening, that's tiny.

However, if you're using CAD- good on you. CAD is great. Stud.io, I assume. To really make your renders look good, do the following:

>don't sample above 1024, it makes no difference
>don't render above 1920x1080, it takes too long and makes no difference
>Use the "Mechanic" Lighting preset, but set the intensity to 1.3-1.6
>turn off brick damage, it looks unrealistic
>UV damage is ok, it can sell the effect of a MOC from new + old pieces, but honestly mixing old and new gray is better for that imo.
>Download SwampKryaka's custom textures, all the metallics will look better, and the glowing bricks look incredible.
>Do a bunch of test renders at low res low samples to see what lighting and angles look good.

Picrel is a recent revamp of an old project of mine, using these techniques.

I get your point, but for me that's what I find so appealing, the amount of work this guy must have put in to give it such a "non-lego" appearance is wild, and something to be admired.

Sometimes I prefer the classic look, but this is so dead on that it's hard for me to not want it.

The official model Lego isn't bad at first glance, but the more you watch the show, the more you realise the model needs a fix up, which I did, I made the nose narrower, and replaced most of the dark grey tiles with light ones, but my autism always wants more accuracy.

That's the reason I purchased the instructions desu is because it is such a spot on replica of the studio model and that just blew me away. I probs won't build it for a long time but even looking through the instructions is great because the way the slopework comes together and the entire internal structure works is just so interesting.

Here's a couple of brickbuilt doors I have at hand.
The one on the left is 4 bricks + 2 tiles wide. The one on the right uses the same principle I showed in the digital model above, but I also used tiles on the right side of the frame to build in the teal outline.

I don't get it why baseplates were costly tho, they are so much thinner and flexible than normal plates. And I've seen solutions they are using if they want to make a stable building now, its far more costly. How are 3-4 pieces of 16x16 regular plates cheaper than 1 32 x 32 baseplate?

Also you can't tell me its actually costs more to use a molded baseplate of a mountain side on which you can build a castle on, than actually needing a ton of gray bricks to build the mountain too.

Scalefags are retarded. LEGO isn't a 1:X model anyways, go paint a Tamiya kit if that's what you want. LEGO uses a LIMITED palette of very well designed bricks to convey the ARTISTIC IDEA of a given subject.

My test of "is it a good build" is- "Is it immediately recognizable for what it is?". That's the goal. Scalefags need not apply.

It's just money, LEGO might have had these lofty ethics back in the day, but if tomorrow there was magically enough wehreboos to make them money, they'd drop a Tiger set with a big fuckin swastika flag to go with it.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some sort of Chinese military set in the near future.

They even had the Osprey, they pulled it because the build was garbage and mangled its own gears. Pearl clutching "militarism" was a convenient cover.

Also much thanks to the anon(s) who keep pestering people to post MOCs. That shit gets stuck in my head and after months of building expensive sets its super fun to make my own shit. It is a completely different experience as I am sure you all know. I was surprised to learn how different the feels are when building something of my own versus building an official set.

Honestly best way for them to do AFOL sets focused at women is just to continue doing licensed themes. The gift/toy market for adults has changed so much over the past 5-10 years. It used to be random crap for Dads and male family members, but has now changed to be licensed stuff, a market that female customers are getting bigger and bigger in.

Licenses would probably work, but I don't think it's necessary at all. Just think about what a big female base general arts and crafts stuff has. Lego can definitely tap into that. Stuff like pic related is a good step in that direction. But I think they need to adjust their marketing for those products heavily.

I think that's kinda dumb. You want them to make like GTA copyright friendly versions of existing cars? I think that would feel really bootleg, I personally really like the licensing. The early waves relied heavily on stickers, but look at something like the Mustang Fastback, that's a gorgeous build with brick built detail, especially the rear.

I'm working on a 2003 Impreza WRX right now, I created a new 4x6 Windshield element to try out an angle between the 3x6 and 6x6 windshields.
It's still got a bit of this disproportionate look, but in a bad way- I want it to look like a Speed Champions set.
Any suggestions?

I LOVE rock raiders but you have to be absolutely blind with nostalgia to praise the rock monsters from it and say new bigfigs are worse. The rock raiders monsters were one color, one piece, no printing, with only a single point of articulation. It would be hard for them to be worse honestly.

It's not that you can't use it, but that you could very easily make something like that out of regular bricks, which would have the advantage that they could be used for anything else as well. Instead the plastic is cursed to live as an oddly shaped lump that is nigh useless for anything but vehicle bases.

It's this. The expensive part of manufacturing legos is getting the studs and tubes right. By manufacturing one big piece instead of an assemblage of lots of smaller pieces stacked together they reduce the number of studs and tubes they have to make and thus the piece becomes much cheaper to manufacture.

The worst part is that since the pins are attached to the mold, you become very limited on what wheels you can even use with this because lego wheels use axles. You can use the big hard plastic wheels like what rock raiders used, wagon wheels which would look stupid, or stuff like pic related which aren't even really wheels.

I'm getting sick of Jang's weird attitude. I used to watch his patreon streams (as like an ASMR while I do stuff) but in the last one he spend like so much time complaining about trolls, I had to turn if off. And if anyone else watched the Ninajo City Gardens stream, so many times he was complaining about how much negativity he gets and the trolls. Also RE: Roadplates are pretty much sold out nationally here. (At least in the states.) I was curious an wanted to pick up a set of them to see what all the hype/BS was all about. S@H, and all stores I've called within 100 mile radius are out. Same with all the Target and Walmart stores. Check eBay and they are already jacking up the price on them. Could these already be out of production and LEGO never admits their mistake with all the backlash?

So, I bought a second copy of the medieval blacksmith and I'm wondering whether to use the parts (plus my own) to go for a couple of smaller buildings in the same style, or try and make an Inn/Tavern.
If I match roofing styles for an Inn, I could always make some small thatched cottages as well.

dont even have CAD shit and dont have enough of each piece necessary, but it would involve battle droid arms, those one stud bars, and a funny clip piece that i barely remember with one open stud behind the clip, just for the fingers
