So Zartan's really the only "new" figure we have till summer. Even if the movie figures had come out, I feel like this line is moving at a snail's pace. I really don't want boredom to drive me into buying all the repaints

It wouldn't frustrate me if they'd at least give us a timeline of what to expect. They can leave out movie stuff but at least let us know there's a lot of shit in the works and we can expect Vipers and Baroness by this date in the mainline and whatnot.

I don't care if the Legends or Star Wars teams go quiet for a few months, because they put shit out regularly, but Classified has been fucked from the start and they need to keep the fans in the loop until after the movie comes out since that seems to have been their excuse for everything so far. I've been seeing lots of people selling off their collections and dropping the line because of this mismanagement which is sad because these are great toys. It'd be in Hasbro's best interest to give us a peak behind the curtain this one time since people clearly want to buy these.

I think this line is doing fine so far. By the time Flint and LJ come out, we will have 17 unique characters and 22 total figures. That's close to what Lightning Collection had in it's first year.

I think most people complaining about the lack of figures see this like Black Series or Legends, completely forgetting that both of those have billion-dollar media franchises carrying them. GI Joe has one movie in a decade, and that movie hasn't even come out yet.

I'll also admit I can tolerate the current release schedule because I'm a longtime Joe fan and I'm not collecting anything else right now.

Because it should be. The strength of those lines is partially based on physical presence. You think anyone knows who frog man is? But look at the marvel general and in stores. He's a weird, fun looking toy that people are buying without knowing who the character is because he just looks like something they wanna play with.

If you take a kid to a toystore (or an anon to a webstore) and look for, say, luke or captain america or something, and then see other dudes in the same wave, like a weird alien or a cool ninja or something, you might pick them up without knowing they're in scene 36 of comic issue 50-whatever. The bread and butter of star wars was once "the dudes from the movies and oh, I'm also going to buy one of these "weird aliens and cool robots"." I would argue the black series is struggling because they're a full human line now.

The fact that no one can even find a gi joe in store means no one who isn't already a hardcore fan is flipping over the back of the package and saying "oh, this dude is cool too, I should get this "viper" toy" or some equivalent of that purchase decision. Hasbro is waiting for the movie, sure, but they can't keep this stuff on shelves even now, so what's the point? Even at its least popular and obscure, no casual can buy these toys. It's only going to get a thousand times worse when kids want the cool ninja from the movie and scalpers gain access to the "clueless parents with kid's birthday coming up" market to compete with the autistic army builder anons.

might be referring to when this happen last few times. Star Wars has had a few of these fatigues where product was too hard to get and the line nearly died for it. The most notable being Episode 2 toys where the main characters were so hard to get people gave up and the branded started to glut really bad even with the hard to get figures.
Of examples where it was 1 for 1 like this we have Playmates Star Trek of the 90s where they made exclusives that were to hard to get and what was once a line that was beating out most kid lines of it's time crashed and burned to KB Toys bargain bins. A even more major one was the original MOTU where in their ignorance never considered kids would want all the old characters as they kept making figures which murder the line because kids wanted the core crew before getting all the new guys but with no way of doing it demand drop hard(naturally for Matty they went the extreme other end for the 00s reboot and crashed it with nothing but the core cast)

In short this shortage and Target being garbage might make this line fissile out in another year unless the new movie is just Saturday morning kino (it's not)

The issue is the fact how little is being put out, Transformers are selling a lot more but are meeting demand easier, preorders sell out just as quick but they get restocks in faster. Meanwhile with Classified you'll sooner get delays to out right cancellations on preorders and most stores don't get more than a case a season. This lack of supply will translate to failing interest.

You are comparing a multimedia hardware that makes its profits back on software sales and accessories to a plastic toy product. This isn't even getting into the more headier issues that the PS5 gets restocks monthly just demand is actually that high where as the Joe lines are lucky to even get restocked anywhere at all.

I think most are just projecting what these kinds of practices bring to a toy line, it could recover but I wager they were too careless and this brand is going to be gone soon. Doesn't help many Target's are already removing shelf space for Classifieds, signaling they are done with it.

I have most of the line and haven't paid a dime to scalpers. The only figures anyone had trouble getting were the Cobra Island figures, and that's more a failure on Target's part, who very much doesn't care about toys in general, then it is a problem with Hasbro.

Any half way intelligent toy collector knows full well Hasbro will release all the CI figures in the general line eventually (see the cobra trooper). The only people paying scalpers are impatient fans with poor impulse control.

People have been saying "fans will give up!" on G.I. Joe for literal decades. But when good toys get out there, people buy em. But by all means, let these people "give up" on the line because I doubt they'll be missed.

I’m not sure why people think fans are so ready to throw up their hands. Outside of the CI stuff, every single figure was up on Pulse for at least a couple days at any given time. If you give a shit about getting joes, you can get them. Seems like most of the vocal complaining is coming from people who enjoy “the hunt” or whatever, and they like wasting gas driving to a dozen retail stores to get their figures in person. I don’t see the appeal myself but the point is, unless you’re willingly choosing to frustrate yourself this way, most of the line is available.

The cobra island stuff is trash though, I can see the frustration there. Seems like a little patience is important though, we’ll get another Beachhead and Baroness eventually.

I bough twhole line as well as all the Walmart retro releases in store and that's with a scalper market of boomer losers but that doesn't change the fact how much this line is fucking itself up.

This is serious deja vu to a lot of brands and IPs that have died over the years, you shouldn't be mad on the consumers that want to buy these items, you should be mad at the company and/or distributors that handle all the other brands just fine. Classifieds is not outselling Marvel Legends, Transfomers, MOTC classic, Wrestling, and countless other brands, the optics on this is just going to kill Joes again and your weird ass defense is only going accelerate it's failure.

Almost every figure sold out same day bruh, mostly before most people even knew they were there. Other places get the figures but at marked up prices so we have the same problems as scalper shit.

Personally I'm hating everything about "the hunt", I've only gotten Baroness out of the CI figures, and I think the mainline trooper is a massive downgrade from the CI version. But I still like the figures I have, I'm not gonna suddenly decide Snake Eyes and Destro are "gay" because I can't get a couple other figures. Even if I "give up" on getting new Joes, CC is happy to hang out with whatever garbage I have lying around.

which is the big damnation of the line. Short of the Cobra Infantry and Roadblock none of the others have variations in the mainline yet and it's closing into a full year, if this line was already established it wouln't be that big a deal

Many of them such as the Red Ninja and Zartan cleared an hour or less when going up. Pulse doesn't always slap the "sold out" tag on their products when they are sold out.

There can be a few reasons they don't order online, but defending the company for issues they don't put there other lines through is just absurd. Mattel is doing better than Hasbro with distribution, and that is absolutely unheard of.

If the show was right that was at the peak of the brands success and playmates show how didn't think that would go badly, figures that were going for $100s crashing to below retail within months of that mess and even when they did a wide release of the 3 pack a year later due to the controversy the damage was already done and the brand just tailspin into oblivion.

Almost all of wave 2 has come back in stock at some point. Can’t speak to the rest, but that’s true of all their lines: Pulse sells out fast, and occasionally comes back in stock. In the case of wave 2, or even Flint and Lady Jaye, they were up for hours. Wave 2 had several that were up for days.

That’s actually fair. I admittedly have an easier time finding PR Lightning and Marvel Legends in store, so that’s a valid argument to get upset about not finding GI Joe. I will say that I buy 99% of the stuff online, and other than Cobra Island, I go through the same hassles with Hasbro’s other lines: Pulse sells out quickly, and sometimes finding another store without markup is a hassle. I don’t think it’s exclusive to GI Joe.

I got a new Snake Eyes today to replace the other one with the floppy torso and it's one of those new ones with the knife already in his sheath and no red on the head.
Also the back art is different, it has a blue jacket Gung Ho and all the other characters have their repainted colours but there are no Vipers on it.

Blue vest seems like it was Hasbro's initial design choice, and I'm sure his armor was some shade of gold early on as well to match the others. But when boomers threw a fit over wave 1, they probably changed it to a more "realistic" color scheme. Look at the all the joes released after wave 1. Beach Head is green, black, and brown. Gung Ho is green, black, and silver. Flint is green, black, and brown. Lady Jaye is green, black, and grey. The redeco wave have their highlights and armor painted over with black or brown. And people are eating it up, the line's gonna look like dudebro "operators" pretty soon.

The extra accessory packs are cool, and the fact that they’re all one dollar is nice. Could you image if they had the articulation of the budget Valor Vs. Venom line? Seeing as how those were 2 dollars, and Dollar Tree sometimes does sell well articulated figures, I could see Final Faction doing better/being better if they had just a bit more articulation.

Finally found a working Valor vs Venom stream on wcostream. I think Spy Troops was a little more fun, but I liked the Cobra civil war stuff brewing with Venomous Maximus and Overkill teaming up. Weird to see some VAs return but others not, Shipwreck seeming hispanic and Storm Shadow didn't feel the same, which sucks cause I loved both of them in Spy Troops. But perhaps the most disturbing change of all was Destro's eyes.

iirc the Venom vs Valor wasn't as well funded due to the fact the 02 relaunch brand was already hitting a snag again and they were trying to boost sales. It didn't work however and a year later the brand was dead in the water again and they were back to the drawling board.
GIJoe sadly has a long history of almost making it to then crash, The DiC reboot, the slow 02 reboot, 25th, PoC, a whole lot of almost making it big and staying in stores for one major screw up to smash it all down.

As a funny comparison Transformers has the flip where they make it big to then almost crash to nothing with no survivors for something usually left field to launch them back to a major success. They almost died after Beast Machines but the throw away 2001 RiD series was so successful it ironically hurt their main attempt at relaunch which was the Unicron trilogy, that by Cybertron was slumping bad but then the Bay films came in to fire it straight to the top. I'm deeply jealous of the idiot savant like luck the TF brand has had compared to GiJoe

Might be misconception with the former, G1 didn't hit a true slump until they got experimental with action masters, the other lines sold well, there was just no show tied to them so people think it dip hard around 86 when that was never the case, in fact in the UK demand never left and there were transformers on shelves to the point they never had a "G2" era.

Thats the rub mate, if Cybertron was doing good they would do exactly what they did with RiD and kept the brand name while making new toys, the near entirety of the late 2001, early 2002 RiD toy line was just a pile of redecos to meet demand, Classics was a hasty throw together and that's according to Hasbro when they admitted as such over the Seeker Botcon controversy, they were declining again and even the sales of classic were not all that great and it wasn't until the 07 hit that the TF brand skyrocketed again.

I know it’s free on Tubi, but hey, it never hurts to have redundancy, especially online. What would be kind of cool is if they also started releasing short animations using the Classified designs, or maybe just a straight up free online series, or perhaps something like they did with Spy Troops, with it being the length of a TV special (around 45 minutes, give or take). While I don’t collect figures anymore since, like, the early 2010s, I know that other media helps sell toys.

In keeping with Larry Hama referencing a lot of military ethnic "stereotypes" and common ethnic make-ups for certain branches, Shipwreck is a reference tot he long history of Hispanics in the Navy dating back to the 1800s. Shipwreck was probably designed as a basic white character but Hama probably worked him as one of those old Californian families descended from Spanish colonial days, not the more typical idea of a Hispanic Californian(a person of mixed ancestry from Mexico). Its one of those clever things Hama added that people don't get.

Despite the movies being trash, the figures were pretty nice, usually. I dig this look for Cobra Commander and Destro.

Baroness is just middle ground, I suppose. Then again, I guess that ends up being most figures of her, huh? Since there’s always something off about them. Like, the character box art of Baroness might look good, then when you look st the figure, it’s like something went wrong.

It’s the Rise of Cobra’s Cobra Commander figure without the mask on (the actually Commander figure, not the “Doctor” figure, which also has a removable mask and a scarred up face, but the “Doctor’s” face looks more realistic and accurate). The mask isn’t meant to come off, it’s like glued and stamped in, but if you do take it off, there’s actually a modeled, textured, and painted face under there. It’s kind of neat. In a way, it’s almost like that one Cobra Commander figure from the 90’s (at least I think it was the 90’s) the one with the red, semi-translucent visor, that had a modeled and painted face under it and wasn't meant to be removed either, because once it’s off, it’s off. But the face under that one 90’s figure was a bit more plain.

There’s also a larger figure based on the Rise if Cobra movie version of Cobra Commander, in the size of the OLD GI Joe toys, the ones that were more akin to dolls, back when they were trying to revive those. Yet the face under that one looked like he came from a horror movie. And that was WAS meant to be removed. Picture related.

Well, I haven’t bought action figures since I lost my entire collection in the early 2010’s, so I’m “eh” on the whole collectable things. About the only good thing, that impacted me, is that there was a console GI Joe video released last year, which is a neat and fun little novelty. That’s basically the only recent GI Joe thing I bought.

If we’re talking fan stuff, well I’m glad Spy Troops anon did what he did, because that was a neat thing to be able to watch that movie again, after all these years, and in decent quality at that.

The shittiness of how they've fucked up Classified angers me mightily and this is coming from someone who doesn't live near a Target and had to pay $70 for Beachhead and god knows how much for a couple of Vipers, a baby blue Cobra Commander, and a Baroness when I get my tax returns (as that is the only way I can pay for them).

On the other hand, the character selection for the line has largely been shit so I don't feel the pressure to buy them.

It's obscenely frustrating beyond belief but they've fucked shit up so badly that I can't even be arsed to care at this point.

I've bought 2 figures from the 6" line so far. Got duplicate as a Christmas gift.
Haven't gone to Walmart since Corona started, because fuck all the gross people who go there.

So the brand is pretty much a non-starter for me right now, but i still follow along with what's coming out.

Used to spend ~$30 every week on GI Joe shit back in the day. Even slowly buying up shelf warmers when i saw nothing new. Bought multiples of TRU's exclusive vehicle sets even.
Now i buy various JoyToy, Acid Rain, and MGR figures every few months with that budget, along with my usual shit (Mezco stuff and models).

I like Marvel Legends just fine but I have my own issues with the fans buying this line: whining about the gold bits, constantly replacing the pretty face printed heads with fish eyed Legends heads, and buying up all the super highly articulated Joes to stand behind their less-articulated Legends to look menacing.

But none of that is hurting sales. It’s the crap distribution, retailer’s lack of faith in GI Joe, and the delayed release of the movie that’s really killing this line. And half of those things can be chalked up to COVID to boot.

I love the figures, I just wish they were easier to get. I never had a problem getting Joe army builders in my life until now. I also think they need to be quicker about announcing stuff because of all the delays. Storm Shadow has been appearing on all kinds of marketing material but still no word about his figure? Seems odd to me.

I'll say that they definitely seem to be trying to at least make the brand relevant again which is good. The game route was a good idea but they should have put real money into it with a better developer. At least they're trying with the Fortnite stuff but really Hasbro needs to do a standalone title again if they want kids to be interested. They'll forget about Snake Eyes in Fortnite after the next big character update happens.

I also think they're banking too much on the movie to be a hit and I really doubt it is going to be. Especially if they're delaying it until theaters open up again instead of just throwing it on streaming services. Plus if The Rock couldn't save the last movie, I don't know why they think this random Asian guy will. Nobody cares about who Snake Eyes is until he puts on the mask.

But also, when Dwayne Johnson is a big main character in a movie, it kind of already bumps it down in actual quality. Nowadays, he’s sort of like the Adam Sandler of action movies (or action comedies), where usually people without much taste like him or his movies. Plus the Rock does not make for a good Roadblock.

That movie just did a lot of weird things. Like killing of Destro without him getting a single real scene, killing off Duke in a flashback (I don’t much like Duke anyways, but even I know that was a weird thing to do. If they’re was actual build up to his death, like what the animated movie WAS going to do, then that would be fine), and a bunch of other things that I can’t remember. About the only things they did right (that I can remember, I haven’t watched it since it came in DVD and I rented it at RedBox) is Snake-Eyes’ costume and Cobra Commander’s costume. Of course some of the toys based off the movie was fine. I find it funny how the Cobra Commander toy from that line doesn’t actually match the movie version fully, but it’s like a hybrid outfit, or maybe it was made from concept art? I liked the toy’s design more than the in-movie look.

The idea is great but the helmet shape doesn't lend itself to that theory very much. Their visors are all the way down to the chin, and I don't see how they could fit into the top part. Maybe I'm wrong and we need some diagrams lol

It's just an archaic design choice from the 80s to make them look "super tactical". Exactly why GI Joe needs to move forward, but people don't like that

I think this was because Ecclestone hadn't signed on for sequels and they weren't getting him back, while Tatum was contracted to do a sequel but really didn't want to, so they killed him off early to give the team someone to avenge.

Both are Snake-Eyes, and both were from a budget line of figures sold st Dollar General and simar stories, the name of the line was called “Basic Assortment,” or something similar to that. The line had two color schemes available. The Snake-Eyes on the right was the main colors of that line, while the green one on the left were the alternate colors. I believe that design is from the RoC Console game that was released back in the day. Like that Flash, Helix and 2-pack Gung-Ho (who also looks like his Resolute design)

Or it was at least used in the game.

The Dollar General line seriously rocked.
These figures were "generally" more interesting than the main line at the time. I fuckin love the Shipwreck and really need 3rd party casters to produce something like the mask/rebrether and fins. I'm hoping that the next Gunrunners Kickstarter will have SCUBA gear and fins.

Indeed, they were quite nice. I had a few of them. I was super shocked to see them the first time I saw them at Dollar General, especially for the low price and the high quality. My Dollar General only had the primary outfits though, but that was fine by me.

Goggles are too big to fit on the head snuggly and have the helmet go over them, but they're not big enough to feel comfortable stretching around the helmet. If you were to cut and reshape them to fit under the helmet's brim, it could look cool

I picked up that Snake-Eyes, the orange Storm Shadow and two of the black Cobra Trooper. I somehow never got hold of a Shipwreck which I regret to this day. They are all awesome figures.
