Guys I need help. My girlfriend isn’t talking to me. We had our 2nd anniversary dinner this weekend at a nice restaurant and I brought a Godzilla figure and started playing with it at the restaurant making its roar and fighting my lobster pretending it was Ebirah. She said she’s never been so embarrassed in her whole life. Did i fuck up or should I ditch her for someone more understanding.

They look Good. I don't think any Kaiju figures are really to scale, since monster scales are all over the place from movie to movie and figure to figure, but the Ultraman SHF are usually like an inch or so shorter than most articulated Godzillas, so they look good.

I remember watching an interview with the guy that sculpted these, and he had a video call with the people at universal or wherever to describe what kong was going to look like, so the guy knew what to make the toy look like, but they refused to show him any images of Kong.

It's just like... if the end result is supposed to be accurate to the movie, then why not show the toy sculptor what kong will look like? Jesus christ. What is he going to do, leak to the public that king kong looks like a gorilla? Come on.

if i remember correctly, all the monsters in those two-packs had a feature where their limbs could pop off, but still be connected to the body with a string, creating a ragdoll effect. Neat at the time, but with the ones I had it made actually posing and playing with them kind of difficult. Can't imagine that one would be any better.

I had the set with the V-Rex. It had a rubber tail you could pull back and use to "whack" Kong. The jaws were also on a light spring so you could position Kong's hands in its mouth, pull them apart using the button on Kong's back, and he'd pry open the V-Rex's jaws.

Anyone here remember twisted kaiju theater?

That webcomic was painfully unfunny, but I liked getting good looks at kaiju toys I couldn't have since I was a kid back then.

I guess the creator took down all his comics because they don't represent who he is. Looks like he still makes comics though. Everything he does is super political now. I remember back in the day he'd make fucked up jokes, but not he's very vocal about being politically correct. His facebook has a lotta anti racsim, anti sexism stuff, but the message is kind of undercut when he's using Godzilla toys to deliver these morals.

Started working on it yesterday while binging the cartoon again. Whittled away bits of the crotch area and the hips so the legs could reach forward. Might have to cut off the feet and reattach them with another joint to more accurately recreate the saurian look. Tail is definitely getting cut off and then replaced, preferably with ball jointed segments. Shoulders will get filed down and then sculpted over to fill the gap around the neck. Was going to chop off head at the neck and then replace it with the ball jointed Runner one, but I'm just going to replace the neck joint (swivel) with another ball joint and then snip the dick part to have the other end of the neck go in from the back of the skull instead of under. Thickening the neck won't be a problem since the back of the jaw could be sculpted to hang a bit and hide the gap. Spines will be easy enough. Just have to pop out the tubes and the spine thing in the back and work from there. Hands also need a hinge to face downwards.

Unironically pissed that he took it down. It was terrible but I grew up with it. It introduced me to a lot of Godzilla stuff and also non-Godzilla stuff like Silent Hill. The photoshops while probably not as impressive 10+ years later still were pretty cool back then.

Some of its saved on the Internet Archive but a lot of the comics are missing panels. Hope somebody out there managed to save it in some form. Would be great to look back on, if only out of pure nostalgia.

Popped the legs off. Found an old Obitsu stand with hinge joints I could use. Indo's ankle joint is sculpted so that the hinge is flat when the ankle lines up with the shin, so I'm going to cut it on too of those three pipe things above the heel spike for mine. Not really sure how to cut the Xeno head to allow for looking straight up though. I could just skip the head to neck joint and call it a day, but watching the show again has me hankering for a straight up position being possible to recreate the swimming pose. Worst case scenario, I'll just use the Drone Xeno head and make a "swimming mode" head.

The spiky iguana neck thing might not be as big an issue as I previously thought since it's more of a semi circle whenever Godzilla's in a more neutral stance in the show. A lot of it has to do with the Marvel Godzilla design, but back in the day it seems like companies that did licensed merch/promo material for various media and IPs had a lot more artistic freedom and apparently didn't have to adhere to any super-specific guidelines like today (see pic related).
I'm sure a lot of designers and artists took a look at Godzilla and said "oh he's supposed to be a T-Rex with spines" and just went with that.

From what I've seen, they're still getting stocked, but with horribly low packing rates. Really doesn't help that Walmart is fucking awful with these exclusives and can't even have a separate page for the actual in store option instead of the reseller one.
