Amiami got more shipping options open, I don't get why HLJ, Mandarake, and others are still stuck with just EMS. That's what killed Plamoya among others. Also HLJ's sales have been beyond subpar recently, so minimal sympathy.

I can't really blame them. As somebody who used to work at a warehouse for a large online store, inventory checks are SHIT and I loathe that day.
Especially if the number recorded ends up being different than the system, then you have to count that shit a second time. It's awful when there's several hundred of said items

DHL to Canada *always* charges import fees. They make damn sure of it. I've paid $20 in fees on a package that was only declared value at $26.

No, DHL makes money by charging a surcharge for doing the clearance. I used to use EMS for everything and only sometimes faced actual Canada Customs charges. With DHL, every shipment is guaranteed to have fees.

Nope. Never ever get import fees on low-value packages using any other mail services. Even EMS is less prone to get them at $90+ than I am at $25+ with DHL.

Luckily I was in the second cut for the coof, I'm good as I had a decent savings and the unemployment has been great.

Same. You're not so bad I have big box model kits still stuck in their warehouse. DHL charge by size so I basically pay for the kits again in shipping then maybe 40? for import fees. Too big for the cheap alternatives of course. I should've seen EMS going away.

Can confirm.
And even if you pay the customs fee when they send you the email the couriers don't check.
I paid the fee and my roommate received the parcel later while I was at work he was asked to pay it too.

I use a personal middleman. I'm paying more in things like domestic shipping/fees/covering PayPal fees, but depending on how expensive the total package is, it's cheaper than forking out custom fees.

Mind you I buy large packages every few months (I don't PO anything because shipping is fucked and I can consolidate orders to save international shipping fees)
