Generally too big to really "collect" and at that scale vehicles are a definite no-no. Personally I find it too large for humans myself, that size should be saved for Godzilla toys and the like, and even then, it's a bit big to really be playable.

I wouldn't say it's unpopular, it's just got a much higher entry level price which means much less people will be collecting it, just like there'd be less people with a Ferrari then something cheaper like a Ford.

If you go to the right places you'll see it's very popular with the people who do collect them.

For me, when I started collection action figures I did get some 1/6 figures, but in the end found them too big, 1/12 just felt like more enjoyable scale for me - so I sold the 1/6 figures I did have. And...they just had too high a price for me to justify getting more then 3 or 4 a year.

1/6 is simply too big to have more than a few of without devoting an entire room to the toys. And in the case of these mondo MOTU figures that 'better detail' means it looks pretty much nothing like the old toys or the cartoon. I much prefer MOTUC.

Unless by play, they mean posing their figures to display, maybe taking photographs and the like. But when I hear play I picture them like grinning to themselves as they knock two figures together making kissy noises or battle "pew pew" noises and talking through a scenario like I'd do in the bath when I was 6

I own 13 1/6 figures. They take up the same display space as about 50 other figures.

Each one of their boxes takes up the space of 5-10 import figure boxes.

It's just bad for space all around.

This is another big part of it. Because 1:6 commands a higher price, it's a more niche market which means they pretty much only cover the most important characters. It's not worth the risk with how much it costs to produce a figure. 1:12 is not only more affordable for consumers but cheaper to produce as well so they can pump out far more characters and if one niche character only has a few folks but it, it's not a major loss. Because they're more affordable, they can even end up selling more of those nice characters because collectors will be more inclined to buy them for the sake of collecting them. 1:6 is fine if you're collecting 1:6 and displaying them with other 1:6 as a general 1:6 collection but if you're trying to collect a franchise, 1:6 is general a bad scale.

Mostly this. I've also sort of dropped out of the high end market specifically because I felt I was NOT getting enough bang for my buck, like OP claims; if I'm gonna buy a $200 toy, the fucking QC better be phenomenal, and unfortunately it rarely is.

I do have a little storyline running in my head that involves the characters I have toys of. If I want to integrate a character into the story I have to buy the figure of him. Waiting to get the MMPR Black ranger before the LC came out was driving my autism nuts lol. But I don't actually play out that storyline. I think as adults we lack the imagination to actually play out something like that. I have more fun running the story in my head desu.

Op asked for 1/6, and monhigh was fairly high end for retail. Don't be mad male options are in the hundreds because little boys prefer hot wheels and minecraft instead of man dolls at the toy aisle. Also lol surprise dolls are fairly well made and don't cost as much. Its almost like men are dumb and buy whatever looks cool.

Most comments are right, they are pricey, take too much space and mostly is focused on popular characters, so building teams is a nightmare.

But I genuinely think that will change soon with the rise of all these unlicensed figures that rival Hot Toys quality (in cases surpassing them) and for a lower cost.

For me it's primarily a question of appeal and aesthetics. I think well designed children's toys with stylized sculpts and pleasant colors are just plain nice to display and look at. I also enjoy the sensation of handling them, the textures of the molds and the various plastics and rubber materials etc. Large scale figures fail on both fronts for me. Visually they just don't do it for me. Increased detail in facial sculpts tend to introduce a uncanny valley kind of creepy doll effect and typically the paint jobs don't hold up, so they end up looking like shittier versions of statues with weirdly cartoonish joints. Also they're not as satisfying to handle, since they're not designed for rigorous play.

I both write it and say it. Statistics-wise, northern states tend to say "you guys," southern tend to go for "y'all," and Kentucky is the weird fucking outlier, going with "you all."

That said, it's become a part of common vernacular even in the north, largely due to online proliferation.

If you actually want them displayed on a shelf, and be posed in any way that doesn't make them look like they are lifeless drones standing at attention, then you can fit like two to three total on a shelf.
Even if you really like them, you're probably only get them of you absolute favorites. It's not something you usually base a collection around.
