You're probably thinking of Bricklink Stud.io, which does not typically look any better than Lego Digital Designer, but it does have a number of features that make it preferable.

This is probably what you were referring to. With Stud.io's built in photoreal render options, you can make beautiful renders of your builds before (or in lieu of) buying them. Check out Swampkryakwa's Color Pack to see some examples.

I’m autistic enough to get a part time job to buy more Legos AND other shit, and I’m in my mid twenties.

Of course the increased savings, work experience, and regular exercise help too, but without a constant drip feed of sets I’d likely lose motivation of work.

This week was the Boulder Blaster and a series 3 DOTS pack. I don’t have much use for the detail pieces, but they’re cheap enough and weird enough that at least one pack should be sufficient for most things.

At least the City Space version from two years ago looked a bit different and had a surface rover BUT if they had not made it space shuttle derivative there would have been the possibility to put a ramp in the aft to take in the rover. (as many older spaceships did) In the end it was just a lonely rover on the planet and a space shuttle in space.

Why are raised baseplates no longer a thing? They improve set aesthetics tenfold, make structures look far more elaborate and imposing, you could never get away with wasting that many pieces to brickbuild something like it. All in all they allow Lego to sell things at a higher price with surely cheaper production costs.

LEGO tried to combat the falling sales numbers by increasing the price but their quality and overall product offer has been poor for quite some time. this is the answer unfortunately. they have accepted a ton of RMA on stuff like red-brown pieces (I had 3 break on me while building Unexpected Gathering recently) as a cost efficient sacrifice to get as much product on the shelves as possible. A totally different company from 30 years ago, but who knows what they would have done with the demand licensing puts on them then.

The big reason people figured out over time seems to be the plastic which initially was bought already pre-colored but now consists of translucent pellets as base that get color pigments added during production.
Not only is this one of the reason for the increasing amount of discolored parts but also why so many pieces with clips on them crack.
Those things were once made of an entirely different, softer, plastic that was more resistant to stress but now they're made from the same stuff as everything else.
If you compare something like the flag pieces from around the 90s or very early 00s and the ones from like 2010 onward you'll definitely see and feel that they're much less shiny and actually bendable.

To me, this issue is THE worst thing that happened to Lego over the years since unlike stuff like stickers or licenses this shit pretty much ruins the entire product on a MASSIVE level.

As such, they switched to making the parts cheaper, appealing to females, minority groups, desperately sucking China's dick, etc... because they know the only way to keep having profits increase is if they can appeal to a new group.

Lego has no long-term future though, getting rid of plastic is what the powers that be are aiming for. Eventually that will extend to toys - Lego does not really have an option at that stage. I'd guess it'll die sometime after the 100th anniversary.

Yes it is easier and cheaper no doubt but they are missing one important point - building experience itself. LEGO as toy, and construction toy, needs to put more emphasis on the process of construction alone. Kids and AFOLs who are about to play with final product will have to build it up and not click here and there.

Many very nice builds are absolutely awful in building process. Either repetitive (Taj M, Empire building) or just very annoying (Collector's Falcon) in the process. They are easy to click together but they are pain in ass to play with.

My assumption was that this was the result of their shift towards biodegradable plastics and more sustainable dyes. I'll drive an electric car, eat tofu for 80 years straight but don't take my fucking LEGOs for the environment, man.

Personally, I really miss that old sheen of classic Lego pieces and especially of the old minifigures. That was the biggest shock to me coming back from a dark age in 2011.

I'd like to see a crossover theme between like power miners, atlantis, mars mission, other lego themes from around 2008. One of the power miners appeared in atlantis and the lego magazine comics would reference some of the themes together so I think it would be cool to build on that.

Every anon owes it to themselves to get at least one DOTS set, especially the extra DOTS bags that sell for $4.

They have some really unique and new colors for parts, and the series 3 extra DOTS comes with two new fucking types of dual molded pieces! There’s a lavender round tile with trans pink star in the center, and dark blue square tile with pearlescent diamond poking up from half of it diagonally. Plus the quarter round tiles still feel like amazing nonsense to my boomer brain, and they come in so many pretty colors!

There used to be one and I tried joining years ago but it's one big clique. There was like 5 people that were worshipped for no real reason (1 of them was only into lego because he was a scalper) and there was no moc posting at all really. There was one person that I remember posting mocs but they were always renders of trains that used impossible techniques and colours, not to mention 'she' had managed to attract some orbiters within the discord channel. There wasn't even that much Lego posting either - it was sort of a place where they'd talk about life in general (or more accurately whinge about school) and they had long left /lg/. The users were all massively underage too. I posted about an Alpha Team set I recently picked up (at the time) and I got told to fuck off for posting bootlego because it seems anything after classic Lego but pre-2007 was unknown territory to them.

I wouldn't bother with discord, but if you dig through the archives you might find a link to it if you want to give it a go. If you're serious about wanting another place to talk about lego, why not try out anon.cafe/lego?

Pictured from top left to bottom right. The six on top plus the diamond are from series 3. The series 2 bag also comes with blue round tiles, but those aren’t as interesting and I ran out of space on this plate so I left them off.

>Coral round tile, medium azure and Keetorange quarter round tile, clear round tile WITH GLITTER, a series 2 white printed tile, and the diamond tile.

Both the star and the diamond jut up a bit, the same height as a regular stud top but with different proportions.

afaik depends where you live. I believe each factory has some parts only they produce (the chinese one making cmfs for example), but there's also a lot of overlap. The three factories are distributed around the globe in a way to save shipping costs, so they produce for America, Europe and Asia & Australia respectively.

I think it might actually be some imaginative kid's attempt at making Nappa out of whatever he got, and that the eupalettes are the Saiyan armor, and the sunglasses meant to be the scouter. abobe him is Vegeta, with the print representing the Saiyan armor, gray legs instead of blue to represent his boots, and the eyepatch being the scouter.

I'd like to see Vikings get a reboot. The mid 2000s sets were really neat, but quite dated to today's standards, and the figures were more or less bland with 1 helmet mold, reused weapons from kingdoms and limited torso prints. I also have mixed feelings on the technic style dragons. I like them better than the overly molded ones, but they needed more brick build structure to fit in with the rest of the builds.

I'd like some opinions on this too. I buy odd lots from various places and the Non-LEGO used to get piled and sold off. Now I actually keep the good stuff and it's come in handy. Granted there are always going to be pieces out there that scream I am not LEGO but things like smooth tiles etc. are pretty spot on.

I bought 40 32x32 base plates at the dollar store for a buck a pop and built my city on them. You can't tell because every last stud is covered by LEGO.

what does /lg/ think of the new road plates? I picked up the basic set today and I'm pretty pleased with it, makes a decent landing pad.

On the off-chance that it isn't just low grade trolling, what is a "dull" MOC? One gets that they're subjective things (personally don't find most mech or speeder MOCs all that interesting) but to each their own; there's always at least one other person in the /lg/ who will appreciate it.

As for the roadplates themselves: I was initially hoping to get way more of the walkway plates without print, so I can have a little green or guardrails in between lanes. The scale is great, works well with 4 wides and 5 wides like the old Tiny Turbos. I generally really dig the road plates since they're more modular and a bit smaller in scale. However they shouldn't have been a replacement. Also horribly overpriced.

Too character focused (and too much size variation between characters) to properly tie it to klocki without making absolute fuck ups in regards to character and build proportions. I'm sure that Mega would've handled the license better.
They could do a better job recreating other payload maps by making separate sets, one with the payload itself with like 2 minifigs and a small scenery build, the latter tied to a second, bigger scenery build with other minifigs. This way you could encourage people to buy both.
They tried too hard to reach a sweet spot between "playability" and "dust collecting conversation pieces" and ultimately failing at both. Again, Mega would've done a better job being a more figure-focused toyline.

There's at least precedent of other companies switching between Lego and Mega, like Nick for example with their Spongebob and TMNT lines. Blizzard also did their Warcraft stuff with Mega back then so it wouldn't be their first try.

Sadly I can't bring myself to care about OW2, I enjoyed my time with OW and I even got some of those sets, but they effectively burned me out with their retarded game decisions and vapid virtue signaling as a company.

I think the weapons really hurt them, too bulky. Some more specific custom molds for weapons, given its a combat game, would have really helped.

This basically falls back to the minifigures being cool and decently well done, but not quite good enough to hit it out of the park.

Size of weps / figure size variation in general. The "big" set being a rocket for playability rather than making a scenery / layout also hurt a ton, a flagship map set to put everyone on would have helped the theme feel a lot more cohesive IMO.

Not to mention they could have had a futuristic large map released around the same time junkertown, er, Apacalypseburg was in production

Other than good discounts, the Dva Mech was the best thing to come out of the line

Aquanauts Neptune Discovery Lab, set had it all.

- Best usage of landscape raised baseplates, had two
- Massive enclosed base, with secondary enclosed pod structure, large transparent parts
- Vehicle side build and landing pad
- Play feature of crystals interact with boxes, crane, converor belt
- Excellent minifigure accessories with chrome weapons, chrome crystals, magnets, working compass

Easily one of the best sets of all time, IMO

My most wanted set when I was a kid, finally got one in 2016 or so. Play value is through the roof. Air-powered tube transport system works amazingly well; exactly how I imagined it. Aesthetically pleasing; one of the few sets to feature sand purple. Combines with other Life On Mars sets to make an even larger display. Best space subtheme and best space base.
