You’re welcome, anon. The game itself is pretty alright, if you play it as and think of it more as a PS2-era third-person shooter rather than a game that came out in 2020. Which I feel is what they tried to do, in a way. It still feels a little lacking. It feels like there was no big climax, it just kind of ends. However, that could be due to the fact that the “big climactic event” happens a few levels before the last one, so it peaks a little too soon, at least in my opinion.

I was kind of hoping there would be more of a climactic final battle, instead of the last boss battle being Storm Shadow, due to him having to “keep a promise”. That battle would’ve been better had they let you choose Snake-Eyes (once you beat a mission, you can go back and play it as whoever). But during that mission, most people might just pick Duke, due to him being an a “jack of all trades” kind of character, and Duke and Storm Shadow don’t really have any kind of rivalry, other than them usually being on opposite sides. Either that, or have Duke and Cobra Commander fight side-by-side, due to them teaming up near the end, but instead the only cross-side team up mission we get is Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow. Which is still neat, and I love how that mission opens.

But still, the game is a little lacking. But it can still be a kind of “simple fun,” so to say. Plus, it’s the only Joe game we’ve got since Rise of Cobra, and you don’t have to grind to unlock characters. You can really tell the game was meant to have online multiplayer, with how it plays and how areas are set up, but it seems like they ran out of time or money, or were impacted by Covid (which is mentioned in the end credits).

Not to welcome more Cobra Island bullshit, but I feel like him with an air chariot would've been a better choice for a Cobra Island themed character with vehicle over Baroness, that could likely still fit in that package.

It's rather funny how two Hasbro properties have extremely different issues when it comes to making games about them. With Transformers their gimmick of turning into other things plants them in a weird problem of how to incorporate the alt mode which can really mess up flow of design, but with GI Joe it's way to simple a concept, it's just CoD/Fortnight but with a GI Joe skin, and as such you kill your own sales because they can just play those other games thus you have to get strangely creative or pour a large budget into a single player experience and just pray there is a market for it.

While playing Operatikn Blackout, I was thinking how it would be if it was a first-person shooter, and how it could still be “class” based depending on the character you play, but still let there be a story and such around that concept. I was thinking it would be similar to how the very first Killzone game was. With how the four main characters in that game all that different play styles, and strengths and maybe some disadvantages at times. Like one of them was a jack of all trades and master of none, one of them was a more stealthy killer but lower health, one was a tank with high health and a fast and powerful gun but was slow and had one weapon that could’ve be gotten rid of (lowering the amount of swappable weapons), and one had a higher chance at reginereating health and didn’t need health pack all the time and had better accuracy and profenciancy at using enemy weapons (I forgot what his down sides are, but I’m sure there are some).

I think Operation Blackout would’ve been better had it tried to be like classic Killzone, in a way, either that, or a third-person shooter where it had some similar mechanics to classic Killzone (the other mainstream games after the first one, besides Liberation and Mercenary, kind of ended up being generic FPSs). Plus in the original, depending on who you chose, along with their strengths and weaknesses, it would also open up or close off certain pathways during missions. Like blasting open new ways, or going behind enemy lines, or being going through gateways that were “meant” to be enemy-only.

That way the different (or what was meant to be different) play styles of the different Joes and Cobras would’ve had a stronger effect and more noticeable different.

That would have been cool. I was thinking they should have almost copied this Ghost in the Shell game from a few years ago.

It was a squad based FPS where you could choose from the different characters that all had their own skills and specialties. Motoko could stealth, Batou had a built in rocket launcher in his arm that could damage tanks/sentries, Saito could see through walls and mark enemies, etc. And if you leveled up the skill enough, you could link it with your squad mates so they got the benefits of the first level which was cool and made it necessary to stick close together at times. On top of all that, they had a lot of customization with the skills/your character as well as all of the weapons which was sick.

My favorite thing though was that no matter what, your team was always displayed as the Section 9 members to you and the enemy team was always displayed as terrorists that had equivalent silhouettes. I think that would be a cool feature in a Joe game where you could set your preference for your view so you would always be Cobra fighting Joes or vice versa and everyone got their own preference displayed. So if you were set as Joes and played as Snake Eyes, your equivalent model on the Cobra side would be Storm Shadow since the skills and play style would be similar. That way you never had to worry about getting stuck on a side that you don't care for or can switch whenever you feel like it without it actually effecting the team balancing.

I feel like they were sort of paying homage to the old arcade game. I dont know why, it was never that big of a deal and no one asked for it. I suppose since its a toy brand they thought they should make the new game simple and arcade like. funny how transformers and other franchises dont get that problem, however. I think a lot of people in comics and video games didnt grow up with gi joe but end up working on it anyways.

The artwork didn't match the figures. In fact, the artwork sometimes did, but that wasn't good as the drawings were very disproportionate lol. The DESIGNS however, were super cool. For the most part I really dug them, Red and Black CC, commando looking Scarlett, the menacing CLAWs, oni mask Destro, Ripper in his trucker hat, etc. It's a shame the figures looked so wonky or had the T Bar crotches. But DESIGN wise it was a good era
Later in Spytroops we got turtleneck Shipwreck, Blackout, Crosshair, Heavy Vested Duke, revamped Iron Grenadiers, Wild Bill with a vest and two holsters, Burnout, Faces and Torpedo. All great designs and some great figures in there as well

Serpentor's Air Chariot, Zartan's Swamp Skier, and the Cobra CLAW would all be great as small vehicles for the Classified line, but any figure packed with a vehicle needs to also get a release on their own, and no more characters only available as exclusives, so people can actually buy them.

did Cover Girl ever really get a definitive version in your opinion? which one is the best? I have to say, I really liked the Devils Due Press Comic Pack with her and Hannibal. But her flowing hair kind of got annoying. And finally when we're about to get something great with the new 25th/30th mold, it's just GI Joe movie Scarlett with the DDP head on her. any one knows some one that casts hasbro joe guns? I know about Marauders but I would like specific hasbro guns, some of them are cool.

Looking for pic related M-60, first seen with comic pack RnR and then with CLASSIFIED 'nam comic pack. There was a chinese seller on ebay that offered them, but stupid me only ordered one (I didn't believe it was real) and they are long gone.

Also looking for the M16A1, the one that came with comic book Grunt or more recently with dollar store Duke.

Final Faction seems to be good for weapons or “background” toys, if you still okay with toys, they’re good for characters that die often, or are generic grunt bad guys or grunt good guys.

I can’t remember if any of the character sets or weapon packs come with any weapon similar to what they’re looking for, though. It’s been a while since I’ve been to Dollar Tree, and actually had time to look around.

I recently got nostalgic for the old GI Joe flash games that Hasbro used to have on their website or some sub-website. There was a text based adventure game where you were trying to break out of a Cobra prison, and occasionally you would play a section as another one of their flash games from the website (driving a tank, getting into a fistfight, swimming through a cave, etc). I know that its probably long gone with the death of flash player, but I can't even remember what it was called. Does anyone else know?

There were a lot of other fun games on there that didn't get archived from what I've been able to find. Some were fairly generic, with not any Joe branding other than cobra being the villain. I think there was one where you just sat in a foxhole and tried to defend against wave of enemies that I played a lot.

Pic related, it was the fist fighting game that was also featured in the adventure game. A website still had the thumbnail on a page.

And later on, duing the Anniversary toy line, there was a trivia game that was set up like Family Fued, with the players being stop-motion toys from that line. As well as one that was a joke about the “G.I. Joe - Kung-Fu Grip!” Joe toys, and it was of some gloved (I think he wore gloves) guy’s hand, with a hairy arm, breaking or destroying different things with his hand. It was mostly different live-action videos, and you’d click a button to see him break other stuff.

And if Bionicle Heroes has been the only third-person shooter you’ve played, then there’s more manual aiming in Operation Blackout, and you have more control over aiming in that game. The game is mostly just shooting, with the occasional vehicle section. If you treat the game like a third-person shooter game that came out during the PlayStation 2 era, then you’ll enjoy it more. The game also as some collectibles hidden throughout that lets you unlocks things when found, like Bionicle Heroes.
Characters also have a secondary weapon that can be traded off with other weapons that might be laying in the battlefield, while their primary weapon always stays with them.

My camera seems to be doing the repainted face some favors, the skin still looks quite red in person, and the lips are super dark. The brown in place of the gold isn't bothering me as much as I thought it would, and If they had painted in the highlights from the first figure, I might be happy with a simple headswap. Heat up the knees, get a thin rod of some kind to push out the pins, and swap them around. Then you just pop them both apart at the waist and swap those around. Repaint has tan knee pieces, which is pretty bothersome.

The 00s were an extremely unfortunate time for GI Joe. The brand was suffering fatigue at the end of the 90s. Then the W presidency happened and America fell completely out of favour with the rest of the world. On one hand you had the republican world policing and on the other hand you had the exported liberal media doing a ruthless smear campaign against both Bush and America. Many countries didn't bother to import Sigma Six and Renegade, both the cartoon and the toys. When the live action movies hit, the general sentiment was "pfft, hasbeens. Cool ninja tho".

There weren't a lot of toys imported, but they sold well among the nostalgiafags. Pretty much the only ones that shelfwarmed were the two Vipers, Heavy Duty and Ripcord. Cobra Commander wasn't very popular either. It was around that time that Jin Saotome was making money and connections with his customs. I resented the man greatly because he came off as insufferably full of himself and his customs were super inaccurate. I saw an Accelerator Suit somewhere on /toy/ and decided to pick one up for a T-46 custom. Both because I wanted a toy of the armor and to criticize Jin's work. Stuff happened and I left the custom half-sculpted. I dug it up years later with newfound appreciation for the base figure, so I removed all the Green Stuff with no regrets. Not to stroke my ego, but I had done good enough to surprise myself. You can still see bits of putty in the pics.
I wish I'd found Duke. He was more screen accurate with his dark suit and gauntlets. But Ripcord is also good. I picked up Heavy Duty as well because his armour is bitchin.

It was prominent in the odl days, thing is, prices were way cheaper, so scalping would only get bad on a few singular figures, and even then, there were a million reissues, and 2nd or 3rd attempts hidden in two packs, dvd packs, or new waves. Same thing with marvel universe, scalping and bad supply was rampant, because online distribution hadn't caught up and amazon wasn't as good yet, but you could still find stuff, and collectors sites were better at helping each other out.

The modern 6 inch joes though, they're dogshit, I haven't seen distribution and lack of preorders this bad since matty and teh digital river bullshit.

The bio thing is not true. The original bio for Bludd basically painted him as a loser's loser and a bad poet who was a walking joke and has carried over to nearly all of Bludd's subsequent bios.

The dog tags most likely represents generic dead soldiers from Bludd's pre-Cobra days as Hama later tried to asspull that Bludd USED to be a competent mercenary but his IQ dropped several dozen points when he joined Cobra and tried and failed miserably ala Roger in the episode where he got work at a car dealership, playing power games with CC and Baroness and Destro and generally, being a huge cuckold who nursed Baroness back to health only to have her abandon Bludd and join up with Destro again.

And the Saw Viper thing came from Hama wanting to do a Desert Storm inspired middle east war story to capitalize on Operation Desert Storm and wanting to kill off a bunch of Joes who's toys were long retired with no new ones on the horizon to hammer home how bad war is. IIRC he only picked Saw Viper to do the killing because he was ordered to prominently feature the Saw Viper and it backfired on Hasbro as the Saw Viper killing all of those Joes basically resulted in them being tied to that massacre of characters combined with the entire group of Vipers being reduced to being one man in the eyes of fans due to Hama having a single Saw Viper do the massacre instead of having multiple ones do the deed.

What does Major Bludd even do in Cobra? Baroness is the hands on second in command, Destro is the guy who gives Cobra their tech and is their unofficial co-leader, Storm Shadow is CC's bodyguard and ninja assassin, Firefly's a mercenary, Shrapnel works for Destro but kisses CC's ass for money, and Tomax/Xamot run Cobra's legit business holdings, and Mindbender is their mad scientist.

In theory, Major Bludd is the field commander for the Blue Shirts troops. Whenever shit needs to be done in the field, stuff that Baroness and CC consider beneath them to be hands on with or in the thick of it overseeing it, they send Major Bludd to do it. He's basically Charlie Day in IASIP and Bludd's assignments are akin to "charlie work"; the menial everyday work that keeps the bar running smoothly and functioning.

In the comics, Bludd got the gig because of his work as a mercenary, running several different crews and being utterly without morals. Him being a horrible poet was an attempt to give him "character" and to mock the "warrior poet" cliche. Similarly, Bludd got turned into a clown because at the time, Cobra could never win or be shown in a victorious light; so Bludd was made into a loser and his bad ass credibility being something that happened in his backstory and not shown on TV or the comics

I see him as a foreign asset. the worst of the bunch. cobra is generally a local problem, the first filecards state that cobra troopers and officers were american military and weaponized citizens. the crimson guardsmen were businessmen and cunning politicians. the idea of Cobra is literally spelling out a civil war fought in America, but of course their connections spread throughout the world. Destro, Baronness, and Bludd would be more of an 'international' connection for Cobra imo

Most of the early Joes were ether retired (Grunt) or had been promoted to train the next generation of Cobra Troops (Short Fuze, Cover Girl) as seen in the issue that mass introduced the 1988 wave of Joes that gave a glimpse into the process of trying out for the team.

It should also be noted that the massacre of the Joes happened shortly after Hama infamously killed off a good chunk of Cobra rank and file characters as part of CC's return. Most of them were characters Hama hated and were forced to include into the series (Fred, Raptor, Mindbender, Crocmaster plus Serpentor's corpse as a meta response to Hama hating the character) and characters such as Zartan and Firefly, who Hama wanted to get rid of because he was already getting shit from Hasbro over redeeming Storm Shadow and moving Destro into more shades of gray territory, plus the way that earlier meddling had forced him to use Zartan and not Firefly as the guy who killed SS's uncle. And Billy being offed due to Hama wanting to outright established CC being back and being even more evil than ever.

The bulk of the Joe characters that Hama killed were vehicle drivers and "gimmick" characters like Quick Kick and the Battle Force cast. Doc's death IIRC was the one that Hama actually regretted the most, but IIRC he was killed off explicitly to provoke a level of shock for the viewers, since when you actually review the kill list for the arc, Quick Kick and Doc were the two killed Joes that actually fucking had a personality and time spent developing them as characters in the cartoon and comics, making their deaths a major blow to viewers, as opposed to say Crankcase who was a character defined solely by him having a handlebar mustache.

Also Hama had a soft spot for the original 13 and actually got into heated arguments with Hasbro over the famed 1985 line as far as him wanting certain masked Joe characters like Barbacue and Airtight to be O13 characters in new garb but got overruled.

Hama ended up having to bring Firefly and Mindbender back when they got new toys, he managed to at least make Firefly's return look like it was planned.

As for Serpentor, Hama did kill him after his toy was no longer on sale, but he was a realist about it, quickly setting up the idea that he could be revived later if Hasbro did make a new toy of him. The reveal about four years later that Firefly had faked his death by putting Serpentor's corpse in his uniform reads like he was by that point convinced Hasbro weren't going to make a new Serpentor toy, but his body being there was one of the stranger continuity errors of the series, as it had been previously taken away by Destro, to ensure Mindbender's loyalty.

Reminder that Zartan and Billy didn't actually die, they both managed to survive, while Breaker was one of the original Joes, and he died in the SAW-Viper story.

I don't know if it's true that Hasbro specifically demanded a comic story that pushed the SAW-Viper, but I do like the idea of them loving one of their new Cobra troops so much they wanted some focus on them.

Was browsing Walmart's site on Sunday night and they had the Cobra Infantry troopers in-stock! Ordered a pair and they immediately went out of stock, otherwise I would have shared here.

I received the wrong items for my last two Walmart online orders, so I was fully expecting to receive a pair of Dukes or something. Was so relieved to open the box and see a pair of Cobra troopers in there.

Anyone else here really worried about this? I'm very concerned all the panel would be is "Hey here's Snake Eyes Movie stuff" instead of actually needed things like "Here's movie stuff and also Pulse is hosting some Cobra Island stuff". The team seems really tone deaf. Plus, all the other press release mention multiple things, where as Joe only mentions movie stuff.

This could continue to damage the line, especially if movie designs suck.

Yes, it certainly is reminiscent of early 2000s stuff. Especially with how the background is from something almost entirely unrelated, with the game’s logo even still being there. It really reminds me of online images of stuff from the “Spy Troops” and “Valor Vs. Venom” era GI Joe figures.

I think it's cool that there's guys out there making 3D printed vehicles for the Classified figures but my god I wish they'd learn to add detail to their models. Copying the originals 1:1 looks fucking awful when it's scaled up. Doesn't help that when they paint them they don't do any kind of weathering either. I went with Marauder Gun Runner's MK-46, which I kinda regret, it's a bit small. Valaverse has a weapon set with some chunky weapons that scale better with Classified

ML are smaller than Classified. SW is smaller than ML. None of the 6" lines work out at the same height.

Depends on the figure, destro and CC seem to be slightly taller while snake eyes seems to be at or ever so slightly smaller. Maybe the deadpool 2 figure the guy was using runs small for ML but the weapons looked ever so slight too big in his hands, I'm trying to find the post but not having any luck.

Yep, they're all slightly too big, but it's not bad enough that it looks oversized on them.

I think the problem is that Classified figures, and Hasbro stuff in general, have big ass hands. A properly scaled weapon can still look small to me, a chunkier one fits better

actually, if they had big hands it SHOULD look properly in scale. Because i usually look at the hands to see if it is in scale with the rest of the gun.

Handles are usually undersized on toys (and/or guards taken off), btw, to make it easier for a toy to hold them.
So i mostly look at the hands against the frame of the weapon to judge.

Good news, turns out the courier just delivered my stuff to the wrong house (which was a street behind me) so I butchered Gung-Ho and made this.
I'm not sure if the head looks too small or not but I need to do some work on it so it sits on the ball peg better and can turn easier, also getting the fists to go around the power fists is really hard because of how stiff the GH hands are but on the bright side it means I can get them off easier.
Should I keep the tattoo on his chest or remove it and put on a new one?
