No, the vintage He-Man wasn't on the radar of collectors when the line was active which is what makes it valuable now, the toys were bought strictly for or by kids who played with them which resulted in fewer toys that were preserved in new or mint condition. Now that so many collectors buy the new lines you'll be able to find plenty of them for sale in great condition twenty years from now so they won't go up that much in value. At the very least the used ones with minor signs of wear should be cheap enough.

They'll probably gain value, and I'd imagine become very desirable, because of the sheer amount of stuff being produced in the line-- the Castle Grayskull alone makes the line noteworthy, but there's also a skysled, a landshark, and a windraider. They'll never be as valuable as Classics, but that's because those had more scarcity, because of the made to order element of them.

Probably not by much. 80's obsessive He-Man boomers will likely be a significantly smaller demographic 60 years after the fact when they are all elderly or dead and people interested in toy history will probably find the originals much more interesting.

Serious question: how worthwhile would it be to collect Clsssics on the second hand market?
I'm put off by the high cost, but at the same time, that line literal has every character I've ever wanted and I'm not entirely convinced all those characters will appear in Origins (which I'm collecting regardless of whether or not I also collect Classics)

Or should I just stick with Origins and cross my figures it goes long enough to hit the same Classics beats?

You'll probably get every major character from the vintage line in Origins and maybe a few characters who weren't and some new characters who were never in Classics. There will also likely be more vehicles in Origins than there were in Classics.

Main reasons to collect Classics-
>There's a number of original characters and even some Filmation characters who are less likely to make it into Origins.
>It's questionable on if we'll see New Adventures figures and characters in Origins.
>They probably wont go as deep with She-Ra in Origins and do nearly as many characters

It's hard to say what we see in Origins at this point, the line isn't even a full year old. It's been running since like Summer time and the line's moving pretty fast. Wave 4 is already out in some places and I think is officially out in the US this month. Wave 5 says on BBTS that it hits in early Summer and wave 6 supposedly hits in September. We'll have pretty much flown thru all of the vintage characters in the second year at the current rate.

This is my main concern. Some of the classics OCs and Filmation characters are among the best toys in that line, and if the classics versions end up being the ONLY TOYS EVER for them, its either get into Classics or never have toys of them at all. Actually, from thst perspective, I put MORE emphasis on them than on vintage toyline figures. I mean, over the years we've like 4 or 5 Whiplashes, so an Origins Whiplash excites me less than a theoretical Origins Lizard Man

And this one I'm ok with. I have zero interest in any of the vintage PoP figures. I've already passed on Origins She-ra. I MIGHT buy an Adora if they release Randor and Marlena just so I'd have the royal family, but I'd pass on virtually every other possible PoP character

They are pretty much making the complete original toyline including eternia playset and powers of grayskull line. Hate to break it to you but other than the occasional item like lop set and Kronos keldor twin pack there are zero plans to be releasing any other figures. No NA, no pop line.

Not really. It's difficult to find them in store, but for a couple weeks the entire line was up for preorder on BBTS and EE. Unless something happens supply-side, these orders will almost certainly be fulfilled.

I hate the vintage Mer-man head so fucking much.
200x style did it right.
Mer-man and Stinkor had two completely different head sculpts, and neither looked like that.
I wouldn't have included it in Classics. The alternate heads would have been the only heads for both characters

Thank God LOP Mer-man is getting a single card release. Now if only Stinkor can get an alternate as well...

I've got Stinkor on pre-order though, because I don't want to miss him just in case, but I do definitely hope they make a pointy-eared one.

I hate that I missed the BBTS pre-order for LoP Mer-man. At least I got LoP Beast-Man, though.

Yeah, Classics is gonna go in the toilet, price wise, once Origins gets deeper into the line. There’s just way more hype for Origins that Classics never had. Origins will appreciate in value for years and years

That makes no sense, I like origins but it's a fun cheap remake of the original line with some limited articulation.

Classics will still be the only way to ever collect a highly detailed extensive 6" MOTU line. Masterverse seems likes an attempt at an affordable simpler retail line from the early pics.

It was just the collector level of sculpt and still paled in comparison to the sculpts on the 200x-style statues. And with the level of articulation Classics had, it may as well have been statues.

Origins at least has a cool parts swapping gimmick and some action features being included.

Origins and Classics are almost literally the exact same thing: same characters, same designs, just in different levels of sculpt and detail. Can anyone name any characters that deviated significantly from their vintage toy?

The only "creativity" claim toy could make would be for the OC characters, and even then...the best of the OCs is still just a dragon. He's a cool dragon, but for a sword and sorcery type setting, I wouldn't call him "imaginitive".

Its not sour grapes to point out that MotU has a tendency to shy away from being creative or trying new things.
Every line is vintage line.
Origins is vintage line with articulation
Classics is vintage line with "grown up" sculpts
Then you've got vintage line Funko, vintage line construction sets, vintage line minis, and 3rd companies making variations on vintage line.

My advice is get the classics characters you really want, but stop there. The line is too expensive to get into. I only have Classics Clawful, Mossman, Leech, Grizzlor, and King Hiss, because they’re some of my favorite characters, especially Clawful who has been my favorite since I was a kid. Just pray your favorite one isn’t TOO expensive. I say stick with Origins, as a line, but it wouldn’t hurt to hunt down one or two Classics of characters that are special to you

This is good advice. Skeletor was mine and so I have some of his variants plus Scare Glow. And it feels pretty reasonable.

Along this line, I think that they should make it easier to find extra body parts for Origins figures so that people can put together their own OC out of the parts. Like BAF but just whatever you come up with.

I own plenty of MOTUC. That is why I can attest to the quality of the sculpt and the lack of articulation. It's fine for the most basic of posing, but it pales when attempting to do anything dynamic. If anything, Classics collectors are going through sour grapes due to fear of the value of their exclusive adult collectibles losing value.

That's a bind I'm in myself. I'm not sure how "all in" i want to go with Origins. If Origins is going to give me what I consider a "complete" collection, I should scoop up what I can now to avoid missing out later.
But if I end not being able to have a full roster, then its not going to matter later if I just cherry pick a few here and there.

As a general rule of thumb, I'd say "if it was in Classics, I want it in Origins "
For example, this is what I want my Evil Warrior roster to look like. If they ALL get made, I'll buy them all for completion sake. But lets say Mattel decides "no filmation, no movie, and also no Twistoid because too much new sculpting and no one likes him"
Well, there will be holes in the team anyway, so I'll be less inclined to buy guys like Whiplash and Tri-klops, since I don't have as much attachment to them
And the same goes for the other factions.
My only "must have" heroes are Mekaneck and Snout Spout, so there's a lot of toys I'll probably skip unless everyone gets made.

But He-man has always just been He-man and Skeletor fighting over castle greyskull using magic mcguffins (like the cosmic key) and Skeletor always sends in a ragtag band of weird minions. And that's what the movie was. The inclusion of the Julie subplot was the only thing thst really needed to go. Setting it on Earth was one thing, but making humans central to the plot rather than hangers-on was dumb.
I think the movie was fine. Certainly no worse than the cartoon (take that however you want)

i fucked up last night. just had a birthday and gf got me a mega construx skeletor. sparked the toy wallet burning brain cell i have left.

went to target, plenty of origins he-man and skeletor. $15 is cheap compared to the same two classics i have. grabbed them.

got home and now i'm playing catchup. bbts has waves 1 but finding some of these wave 2 is already getting tough. general markup and scalping on specific figures.

i'm not going to go all out but i really absolutely love the original styled packaging with the comic. and the fact the launch prices aren't absurd.

i'm actually content af with this line existing. i'll be half picking away at it while i wait on the super7 tmnt ultimates to release

Yeah I had planned to just get skeletor, and he-man. then i saw battle cat in person and picked him up. Saw in one of these threads the vintage style heads come with the battle armor versions so preordered those. And now i've got a dozen other ones preordered and will probably end up going all in on it if i stumble across greyskull now that you can't preorder it anywhere.

I'm not sure how true this in the case of MOTU. Classics are almost universally more expensive than their original counterparts, the vintage figures are oddly not worth that much compared to other 80s toys.

OP only mentions Vintage and Origins, probably due to their similar scale and general area of distribution. As such, Classics doesn't factor into the equation at all. Also, loose Vintage figures are affordable, yes (though there are outliers ([spoiler:lit]Scare Glow and virtually all of the 1987 lineup[/spoiler:lit]), but an AFA high-graded MOC can easily surpass anything in Classics, regardless of character (especially some of the most sought-after international variants, such as the Leo India figures).
