So what would be the legal ramifications of a company making official toys based on cheap bootlegs of their IPs? Like Hasbro making a Transformer based on some dollar store original mold shape changing robot, or Mattel making Galaxy Warriors Baltard here with their MOTU Origins molds?

Galaxy Warriors were a legitimate intellectual property of their own, even if the toys were imitations of MOTU style. So the ramifications would be the same a company making Conan the Barbarian figures making a He-man figure. They'd need permission from the current rights holder.

Also one thing I remembered reading was that if something was made before 1989 and didn't have a copyright notice, the rights holder would've had to correct that within a certain amount of time otherwise it ended up public domain, but that only applies to stuff originally made in the US. International laws would be very different.

But Baltard!!!! Sungold was still around knocking off shit in the early 2000s, they still might exist under a different name. Mattel was the one that tried to sue Remco for their fig lines and got smacked saying they don’t own the rights to a 5.5 squat muscular body type so the flood gates opened up after that.

Considering most of the toy companies that made the bootlegs are dead and gone, probably not much in the way of legal ramifications. I don’t think the companies would WANT to make official versions though , because most bootlegs are shit

Yeah. Every video he looks just dirty. It’s like Pig Pen from Charlie Brown. And these guys who are not naturally funny have this thing where they have to make stupid skits and shit.

That said his vids are probably the most informative ones I’ve seen on YouTube or in general. He’s got so much of this shit and later vids down the galaxy hole get crazier with the stuff that was released.

There was an initiative to push the Fuerza T characters in MOTU Classics but it was kind of a legal black hole. No one really seems to know what the real ramifications would be. The Fuerza T characters make a cameo on the Battle Cat box but if anything came about,Mattel could say they’re the design owners. The comic writer has come in a Origins group I’m in a few times. When the question came up, he said well Origins figs all come apart. You could almost make your own.
