That design genuinely feels like it had more love for the source material put into it. There’s elements of basically every Mechagodzilla design in there, even Noriyoshi Ohrai’s unused version that transformed into three separate vehicles.

Best thing money can buy: XPLUS, but there’s no articulation. Based mostly on the original suits.
Great tier: Monsterarts, great sculpts, great articulation.
Good tier: Bandai MMS, not great articulation but they’re good.
Okay Tier: Playmates, poor paint, but they are fun toys, especially the most recent smaller Kong
Shit tier: NECA - unless you like broken joints and poor sculpts, stay the fuck away.

The design may be more true to the source material, but this does not look like something that could handle taking on the Legendary Godzilla or Kong effectively. The exposed wiring and lanky arms would be a death sentence in a Kaiju to Kaiju fight. I think they made the right choice in making the new one basically a mechanized version of the current Godzilla, with a thicker body to take hits as well as limbs and grappling claws.

There's nothing "soulful" about them, and comparing them to Trendmasters is insulting since those all had great sculpts, decent paintwork, and actually were fun and interesting toys even if they were for the most part completely inaccurate from the source material.

Debatable. The RPO design is pretty clearly a fantasy design and would not fly in a grounded take on kaiju like the monsterverse. Legendary had to make mecha look like a feasible machine. General audiences don't want to see giant toys fighting, no matter how much delusional manchildren want to believe otherwise.

Not sure if its the same as what youre describing, but I think those high accuracy high detail statues tend to look a bit weird since they are meant to represent something so much larger than they actually are. Especially when photographed, the qualities of the depth of field, etc. create a strange visual disconnect where your eye is indicating a small object but your brain is indicating the opposite. I am just an autistic schizo though so it might just be me

Another autismo part for me is I feel like X Plus focuses too much on making it suit accurate than monster accurate if that makes sense. I usually feel around in the bag to identify a unique feature, like wings on MechaKG or tail on Destroyah. Sometimes its really hard to tell though, leading to a false positive if you think you feel a horn but its really a foot. I think for Hedorah, maybe the tail and/or arm? It seems like those should be the easiest features to identify feeling around. There is a white cardboard piece they wrap around all figures to protect them, so if you feel that when feeling the bag that's what it is.

I mostly agree with >>8846979 but I think price point is important to consider:
$$$: X-Plus > Monsterarts > P-Bandai Vinyls
$$: Bandai MMS > NECA > Playmates
$: Bandai High Grade > MIsc. Keychains/Gacha
Overall I think Bandai is the best company for Godzilla stuff, but you can't go too wrong with NECA or Playmates. NECA focuses on collectability, while Playmates focuses on playability. X-Plus is the best bang for your buck, but it's also more expensive, take up lots of room (most of them), and are basically statues. I wouldn't recommend the P-Bandai vinyls though, only one I would avoid imo. Just not worth the price point for the quality and what you get.

thanks anon. at this point I'm probably gonna get a Monster Arts Showa Godzilla if one comes out that I like. I really like the 1964 look. I'm not too keen on collecting a lot of Godzilla due to space constraints so I'm more inclined to spend more on one item.

There is an SHMA 1964, only things I'd warn you about with him are that he's probably really expensive now since he's been out of print for a while, and his articulation isn't as good as newer MAs due to being one of the earlier figures in the line.

I think it's pretty clear from how they package and market the figures its for collecting. You can collect Godzilla iterations. I wish they made non-Godzilla Toho monsters (besides the KotM Mothra and Rodan), but yeah. My point still stands. If you want to collect the whole monster line: like I said, Bandai is the best company for Godzilla stuff.

What would you say are the most important aspects of articulation for Godzilla? For example, I'd expect more from the Showa era Godzilla than the modern or Shin version since the Showa is so much leaner.

I'd say a good range of movement in the limbs and tail are the most important, as well as neck movement that allows him to look in all directions easily and naturally. A good torso crunch is also appreciated. The 1954 MA is probably the best in those regards.

Sometimes too tight, sometimes loose, but nothing I can't fix easily. I've never had good luck with SHMA. They're consistently terrible.

I doubt it but I’m sure if the Monsterverse continues, he’ll come up again. Outside of “oh I don’t like this MG design” the MechaG Playmates is probably their second best figure (tied with their Skullcrawler and I think their Warbat is their best). Decent articulation and decent sculpting. Obviously not that great but for Playmates quality and for its price, it’s pretty good. I got all their figures except for their regular Kong so if y’all want any pictures of them, lemme know

Head can’t move but his jaw can, wrists are locked and so are the fingers (probably my biggest complaint with the figure), and most of the tail isn’t on joints but it’s soft plastic so it’s bendable (it won’t stay that way though, it’s not like Gumby bendable, sorry if I’m not making a good description, decently in the bottle right now)

What's wrong Biollante's repaint? I love the bright green mohawk. Most people seem to to agree the shading is better in some places and duller in others versus the original release. It isn't a replacement nor a worse release.

It's pretty awesome. You can't appreciate this figure fully until you see it in person, the production photos just don't do it's sheer mass justice. I was kinda worried about the bright green coloring cause the original convention photos used some fugly flash photos, but in person it bleeds quite nicely into the overall mold and gives it a nice palette.

I think there's some minor issues with dull application, like on her tusks, but the QC hasn't been bad at all, it's very easy to resecure any joints that fall off (and they will), and it's quite a joy to look at. This is probably my favorite recolor they've done, or at least the best recolor they've done in ages. I'd seriously recommend picking her up now if you can, cause you probably won't get another chance like this.

It's the Helmet display case from Hobby Lobby. We don't have an ikea around here so I had to be a little creative, and I got it for just $40 cause it was 50% off. It BARELY fit though, the tightest squeeze I've ever had to do. Took a few tries and tendrils popping off to get the right pose that would let me stuff her in there.

Nice eye, it's the 2003 movie monster series repaint from Bandai. A lot of people gravitate to the Bandai Creation vinyl toy from a few years ago because of it's more film accurate mold, but personally, this is my favorite toy of King Caesar. The paint job is astoundingly amazing and really makes it pop for me. I like collecting the modern vinyl toys from Bandai too, but nowadays they just don't put the same kind of effort you see from this guy. One of their best IMO.

The purple eyes and tusk look better on the OG, but the entire mold has a much more subdued hue. I also prefer the neck flap on the repaint. This is a weird hill to die on for a figure that looks almost exactly the same but cost $500-1000 less.

Seems like it's been that way since the KSI line. Walmart doesn't seem to care that much about the toy section to the point where even stuff readily available in stores won't have an official page. Not too shabby. After picking up Biollante I was just about ready to settle down for the year, but I think I'll consider pre-ordering SHMA Kong too, because if his Jackson counterpart is any indication, he'll definitely be a hot item real fast. I'm also probably gonna grab the light-up Gomora plush from Factory Entertainment, but I just know I'll want their Ultraman plush if I do that too... Hopefully there's a Red King plush in the future as well.
