I initially wanted to make a simple diorama base of some park roads just to make a little scene for my Bugmen. Never went anywhere, tho. But I am going to paint some Gunpla sometime soon.

I want to start making dioramas for my stuff because I want to take pictures of them. I got some cheap card stock backgrounds for them but it's not doing it for me. Setting a scene is more fun. I haven't gotten around to it though. I have the tools and a lot of foam I can work with though already.

Personally I have better results making molds of chest plates on various figures and then putting either sprue goo, greenstuff, or resin to the mold.

this is literally what i want to do ... i have the stuff and the test figure .... just waiting on some glass jars to hold the sprue goo/glue/putty and then the balls to go at it.

i could use some tips if you got them.

Haven't does this myself, but I've used similar technique to seamlessly weld in a broken neck peg, sacrificing the joint inside for a permanent stable attachment.

Shave pieces off the skintone runner (use the ABS ones, POM runners don't melt or weld with plastic cement whatsoever) and soften them with the thin cement. Create a foundation layer and build up off it, then sand back down to desired shape and fill in air bubbles.

Alternatively build a foundational structure with epoxy putty, let it cure, then cover it with a thin layer of melted skintone plastic. Cure, then sand smooth.

Use same-material plastic to ensure colour consistency, because polystyrene and ABS will discolour at different rates when they age. If you're painting, using the same materials helps to keep colour consistency unless you use primers.
