>>8889270I have a feeling you just wanted to complain and aren't looking for a real answer in the first place, but whatever, I'll humor you. There are a few reasons here.
1. Optics. Especially in today's climate, companies don't want to look bad. This is typically for very selfish reasons, but nevertheless, it has a net good effect in that it forces them to be conscious of bad behavior and practices within their ranks.
2. Expanding their reach. Companies generally care less about keeping the interest of existing customers (who are statistically likely to grumble, but keep buying their products/watching their shit/playing their games anyway), and more interested in bringing in new customers. This is why franchises constantly get reinvented for new generations, appealing to the youth and pissing off older nerds.
The current hot tastemakers and trendsetters are Gen Z and very soon, Alpha. Continuing the work of the Millennial generation, many people from these generations show an increased awareness of, and interest in, human rights issues such as racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc. and thus, to appeal to them, companies are trying to excise all traces of these things from their images. Like it or not, the world is becoming a more progressive place, and while that doesn't mean everyone will be happy, it does mean that we as a society are improving.
As a side note, I do think that a lot of this "progressiveness" is a cynical, cold-hearted cash grab by boomer execs. But again, if it enacts a net positive change in the end, I'll cautiously embrace that.
