I remember when i got the Phase 1 Clone from that line when I was around 8 or 9. I just gawked at the figure in the packaging on the ride home (think I opened it on the way there too, lmao). Gosh, those were simpler times.

When you're as big as Disney it's not just about getting your toys on shelves, it's about making sure there's no space for any other toys.
Disney knew stores would be clamouring for Star Wars figs, so why not take up all the room they can.

Skeleton Warriors is my pick. That big chromey gold skull with the evil glowing red eyes was instantly eye-catching in the toy aisle, and IU loved the futuristic city painting below it.

The art of toy packaging is dead. Toy companies don't want to pay artists to create works of art like this anymore, it's just bland "premium" collector's boxes and shit with photos and text that an intern threw together in half an hour. Our toys may have gotten more advanced, but the presentation has gone way downhill over time.

Warpo did a good job, they got the guy who did the old dungeons & dragons boxes to do the art.
They set a good example for how I would like card art to be handled on toys, by hiring talented illustrators.

These guys had some rad artwork - the overall dark colored background with the glowy blue spirit animals that took up most of the visible space were noticeable enough, but the holographic parts being prominently displayed for all to see definitely caught the eye while walking down the aisle.

Hasbro's MU line had best packaging. Great art from Marvel's best artists during that era.

The MLs at the time also had some great action art too, but the MU line was much more consistent.

I always loved the artwork on the card back that showed Anakin and Obi-Wan fighting in the reflection of Vaders mask. Loved whenever I got to pick one of these up.
