How does this Sonic compare to the TOMY one?

I really like the Studiopolis base, but overall I'm not sure if this is worth the price tag when I already have a similar figure. Wondered what everyone else had to say about it

I saw it at a Gamestop today, I was tempted but passed because the box was badly dented on one of the corners. It seems to be a similar size and build quality to Tomy's "Ultimate Sonic figure," but with no knee or torso articulation. In addition to the lower articulation the price tag is also $20 higher, Tomy's Ult Sonic was only $30 while this one is $50, and that admittedly nice looking stage doesn't exactly add a bunch of extra plastic mass since Tomy's had that Green Hill base. If you can still find it at retail price I'd recommend the Tomy Ultimate Sonic, but if you missed it this one could still be alright.

That's a shame. The stand looked nice and a couple of the expressions were nice, but I resisted because it seemed overpriced.

oh yeah, I've been coming here at least a couple times a week for years, someone even made a thread about me last year, thanks to that I was able to switch to a better brand of paint and learned some new techniques to make my stuff better.

Tomy’s looked better, had better articulation, and was a better value.
It’s an extremely nit picky gripe, but I hate how devoid of life the pupils on Jakks’ looks. Tomy’s had a more expressive look.

Around 2016, I think? Sometime around Sonic Mania’s release.
I actually saw them at stores for a long time afterwards, until around 2020. Usually at places like Books A Million and GameStop.

no, saddly i don't have the Tomy
as for the figure, i gotta say it's pretty good, the sculpt is really well done and im really enjoying it so far, my only gripe with it is that it came with a loose arm joint, but that just happens sometimes.
overall i think that it's nice figure but if you already have the Tomy one i'd think you should pass, for they are very similar but the Tomy has more accesories, more articulation and i think it's a little bit better. but if you are in need of a solid Sonic toy, don't have the Tomy one and got ther money, i think you will really like it

I don't understand why this can't be hosted here, the sprites were ripped from a game, they weren't created by the person who made that sheet. Besides, that isn't even being used as a source for sprites, just a reference to show the accuracy of the toy.

only problem is that its arms are asymmetrical. As you can see, the shoulders are molded differently and the elbows pose in different permanent directions. my solution is to buy 2, and easily pop out the arms and give both left arms to one figure. then cut out the elbow joints and replace them with 2 small hobbybase/revo joints. then stick the forearms into the new joints which fit perfectly iirc.

it's almost strange that this and eggman have elbows at all, but jakks explained they didnt want to compromise design for the other guys

I don't know what they were thinking when they designed Metal's elbows that way, but an exacto knife, a drop of krazy glue, and 10 minutes of your time can fix it up and get rid of that infuriating asymmetry. Sadly I couldn't fix the shoulder thing, but having the elbows go the right way went a long way to making me feel better about the figure

I really like the idea of the level accessories (like traps and springs) but I wish we got more playset parts to use with them. The Green Hill Zone set is really mediocre.

It was nothing, when I got it the knee wasn't all the way in, I thought it was a deformed peg, but when I heated it I realized it just hadn't been pushed in all the way, a little bit of heat to soften the plastic and it went the rest of the way in nice and easy.
