Decided to buy some super-hero legos as I had a little stimulus money left: I have movie Vision and Scarlet Witch and Hal Jordan/Sinestro Corps Sinestro coming in the mail.

Really wish they would do more set with new super-hero characters. Everything out these days seem to be reissues of old figures (Batman/Villains and the Movie Avengers and the only new villains being AIM grunts that don't even look like traditional AIM Agents). I want some Avengers sets with classic Avenger villains and maybe a couple of new X-Men sets too.

Most of the new Avengers sets are based upon the disastrous Avengers game they did for the PS/XB that flopped and a recent Disney cartoon where everyone gets Venomized.

Also, we are still getting "new" characters: the Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider, Max Lord, and MODOK.

Really wish we could have gotten a second wave of DC mini-figures. Or a Marvel mini-figure wave.

Except I want just that, but those sets don't allow it. This thing had like 400 pieces, but only five colors. I could build a nice red house for my minifigs, there's like 12 1x4s and 16 1x2s. Yet in the newest releases, you only get that with the 1500 pc 11011. If I wanted to do a yellow house though, it's harder, because there's way less yellow pieces in the newer one (older one had same amount of yellow and red)

There was something of a balance with the trend they followed from the early 00s to 2016, as they had not too many special parts save a few jumpers and slopes,and a couple more colours (like orange, light blue and lime) that were distinct enough, and priority was given to the classic ones.
Plus they gave us the printed 1x2 with a smile.

are there any available barebones blank slate humans with basic articulation that can be painted over and customized on a Lego-like scale? When I look at figures that small in miniatures they are ridiculously detailed but have zero articulation. For someone who likes to actually play with things that's unfortunately a deal breaker.

maybe I could combine lego figs with models but the clash in aesthetics is a bit too jarring

If you're unfamiliar, the best way to start is to go to a craft store and get some blocks of green foam bricks. These can be sliced with a sharp knife. You can use them to form natural geologic features. While you're at the craft store, pick up some acrylic paint and brushes to cover them (you can also use spray paint but the smell tends to linger where acrylics tend to lose their odor very quickly after drying), and some colored pieces of posterboard.

You can use the posterboard to create different types of flat terrain, like cutting a green and a yellow piece of posterboard in a winding shape, then spreading them apart and putting a sheet of blue posterboard underneath both, to simulate a river. This is how Lego did it in their catalog photos in the 80s.

If you want to use fake vegetation instead of Lego elements, you can usually find it in large quantities at a pet store in the reptile section.

Come to think of it, you might have good luck using a primer of spray paint to seal up the foam pieces, then going over that with acrylic and finally a third matte coat of spray on top of it.

If you have access to an airbrush and air compressor that would be better for the second step but if not you can have fun painting with a brush.

I did a lot of 28mm modeling at my old job where I had access to a wide variety of wood types and Dremel tips.

Lego use to do that a lot. And you'd end up with tons of multiples of characters you really didn't need and barely any henchmen/army builder type figures. Knight's Kingdom, Alpha Team, Harry Potter, etc all had the same issue.

What I meant was something like a total blank slate "skeleton" so that you can fully customize it however you want with paint and add handmaid details and accessories on top of it. With construx you're stuck with all the details that are already on the mold itself

I'm making a '70 Charger moc after seeing that Speed Champs leak. I don't like the way the official one looks, it's too tall and uses very basic build techniques, all just stacked bricks and tiles.

I've lowered the profile and extended the front, I think this looks better. Also, yes, it's a custom windscreen: 4 x 6 studs and 5 plates high. LEGO ought to make more variety of windscreens instead of big fucking tiles for people who can't snot

Rock Raiders is popular now because the kids who grew up with it have disposable income, but he only appeared in the largest set so the minifig was already pretty rare to begin with, and it's the ONLY minifig that came with an arm in that color (although I think they might have brought that color back for minifig arms?)

Bricklink or lego bricks&pieces on the lego website. For b&p you need to know the parts numbers or you can enter the numbers of technic vehicle sets and choose pieces from the parts list.
used lots like the anon above suggested usually come cheaper but you don't have much choice over the parts you get and their condition

I see you you tried to make it longer to compensate for its height. I feel like that will create a different problem, of it not being wide enough for its length. I think I would try to cut back on the length (as on the pic edit) and see if there is any way to make it just a little bit more flatter. Other than that, pretty good moc! Good luck, looking forward to see where its going

Someone asked the other day about my bionicle minifigure heads, they can't normally fit on a torso, but you can hollow out the peg holder so that it does

I think I took a 3/8ths drill bit to these years ago and it fit perfectly. They make for a decent alien head imo, and the modification is incredibly minimal.

I had them from the Toa Terrain Crawler and they are fairly cheap parts anyway.

There's a mixture of themes with generics (Aquaraiders, Mars Mission) and named characters (Power Miners, Dino Attack) who have each different variations of the same uniform, so they make good for a generic. Agents is particular in that all the agents are named, yet the only print variation is if they have boobs or not.

I have a PHD in Alpha Team and I gotta say it wasn't a problem, though it as a curious hinge as Lego changed many of the company's attitudes between the theme's first and last year
>Wave 1 has only 1 Ogel repeat (One in his base, other in his vehicle)
>Wave 2 has 2 Dashes (Aquatic Mech, Ogel Base) While there are 2 Ogels (Base and vehicle)
Also there are small polybags with Dash, Cam and Ogel
>Wave 3 is the one of big repeats, it has Charge, Flex, Dash, Radia and Arrow twice. No extra Ogels however
The first three have unique printing each with a bit of their designated color, but the later three don't, so they serve as generics where you can change the arm without mismatching.
In the previous themes, save for Dash and Deep Sea Cam, every torso had plenty of the agent's color, so you could only change Dash's sleeve to make a custom agent.
Pic related had to get out of the way and either buy the same sets again or the minifigs

Mine was bridge chase, but the sealed ones aren't very cheap.
As for Tuner X, Bricklink should do. That's where I got mine, sealed for under 10$. You should definitely still find some for under 15$ sealed.

This is not an excersize in using my collection's limited parts pallette to create a nice moc.
The goal is the create a better version of the official set that LEGO made questionable design decisions on.

I hate cadfags too- people that make blocky shit with lots of tiles, or have floating shit, people that make low effort renders.

Rock Raiders is what killed Lego for me. I really hated and despised at the time all the unique facial expressions for all the characters and a lot of the style of the sets, which just seemed like they had an aesthetic that wasn't like anything from before.

I m trying to re-design this Dodge muscle car too. I noticed that it has very 'rounded' sides and managed to get theat however I have no idea how to make that flush-fit roof. Apparently rear pillar is almsot as wide as the rest of the body and I'm not sure how to capture it in LEGO. BTW I have no idea how to do front grille and tail lights so feel free to suggest something.

Older 1969 Dodge has wide shoulders that can be done with one stud of free space. 1970 Dodge does not have that, rear pillar of the roof is flush-fit with the rest of the body, also body is more 'rounded' instead of being flat top like 1969 Dodge. I have no idea how to capture it in 8-wide LEGO car.

That looks great! Your sides look better than mine. Yea, I'm running into issues with the rear pillars as well, I like the way you did it with the cheese slopes.
The front lights I did like this, it's a stack of brick 1x1 modified
I'll probably just do a custom sticker for the grille

Thx! I'm stealing this design however I replaced 1x1 brick with studded one and swapped order with 1x1 plate so I can attach 2x8 plate and build whole underside section. Now need to figure it out how to make turning lights.

I always thought it was funny that the seemingly peaceful classic space had spies. Who are they spying on? Their fellow spacemen? Why?

Originally the reds and whites were meant to represent soviet cosmonauts and american astronauts respectively but then they added more colours.

What the fuck is the reasoning behind the Speed Champions wheelbase part out of other parts? Is it more solid or something? Why not just use a 1x6 plate and two 1x2 brick w technic pin?

If we're using a new wheelbase part, we might as well make it a lower profile, that way there's actual new utility to it.

I don't understand some of LEGO's design decisions. Like changing the direction of the technic pins in speed champs wheels in 2020. Now you have to make new molds for all the wheelbases and wheels? And they're no longer compatable with the older cars? Why?

Agreed it's quite an weird piece, your guess is as good as mine, I think they just made it to make the cars more solid.
in the 2x6 plate + 1x2 axle brick setup, if there is not enough building ontop, the bricks might be pushed off the panel when you apply pressure onto the car from above. This new piece is probably to prevent that

If it's a set currently in print, they probably have extras in the warehouse. I'd check Bricks and Pieces first by sticking in the set number to see if it comes up for purchase before calling to check.

Of course, that is to be expected of one of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert. Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs." I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

6705 (1994) Space Explorers alternately named 6705 Commander Bear and the Spyrians in the UK, is a minifigure set for the Space theme that was released in 1994. It includes Commander Cold from Ice Planet 2002; Major Kartofski and two Spyrians from Spyrius; and one astronaut from Unitron.

So Futuron have come and gone, what could be next? At this stage The Lego Group turned to some strange and bizarre concepts for their heroes and villains of the cosmos, although which were which became increasingly hard to decipher immediately, which is indicative of broad minded storytelling.

Minifigures:

Ice Planet 2002 have glowing orange slit-visor-aerial combo and multi chainsaw blades and frosty haired face.
'Spyrius' robot features, possibly first proper minifigure robots, featuring; clear transparent helmet, black head with silver tech-print face, torso and legs with a technical gadget type circuit plate.
Spyrius very colourful uniforms splashed in red, blue and black with luminous yellow visors and silver print circuitry also on a helmet and dodgy facial hair.
Spyrius heavy laser and blaster.
Unitron white, grey and yellow trimmed still spacey uniform design.
Unitron silvery print helmet and excellent eye shades.

Unitron don't manufacture razors or cleaning equipment but look the part with additional yellow trim and helmet. Their laser power drill assists either mining or self defence. He competes with the Spyrius robot for best MF here. 'Ice Planet 2002' is now a defunct prophecy if also a fun idea. Some gold tech print and cool blue gloves liven him up. My minifigure head score is a just a bit of fun, balancing a total mark for the entire MF quality within a set so the robot for instance would get a 5 but gaudier MFs brought the mark down a bit.

The helmet prints were an excellent leap forward if a little over the top; there is an awful lot of jiggery-pokery going on here which can cram up the designs a little. The uniforms are clear, strong colour schemes, however gaudy, and the robot is a winner. The background went along the lines of Unitron harmlessly mining for resources (mining -harmless?!) while they got spied on and stolen from by Spyrius. Where the Ice Planet 2002 came in, I'm sorry I do not know but they seemed fierce and not really worth visiting unless you wanted to steal some technology or ask for some ice? Certainly a change of direction for the Space theme then, with some good characters and strong minifigures but also very experimental ones. The more extreme or unique the design of each component, the less it may integrate with other bricks for an alternative design. For example, on what other models are the power chainsaw blades going to look right? Maybe I'm lacking imagination.

Results Prove Positive
A fun and colourful collection of minifigures with excellent parts and prints for adding to a Space collection but individual taste will judge just how much of the 1990's 'dazzle' your collection requires.
