Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I understood Neitlich's claims, Universal already owns the rights to MotU, Mattels only legal standing is a clause that says thst if Universal wants to do a new Motu line, Mattel gets first dibs to accept or refuse, and if they refuse, THEN Universal can ask someone else. So in theory, MotU by Hasbro could happen today (again, only in the unlikely event Mattel says no)
Once that clause is gone, Universal doesn't HAVE to ask Mattel first, but that doesn't mean they definitely have to ditch. They can opt to let the license stay with Mattel.
Now, if the claim "Universal will DEFINITELY pull MotU from Mattel", i can see that being a huge problem. But the claim is basically "they can if they want, but won't necessarily have to".
And really, if Mattel cared, they could clear everything up with an official statement at any time. Even something like "we will give a full update on the current state of the motu copyright issue at such and such a time". The fact thst even let Neitlich say it and don't issue a statement of their own in any capacity kind of gives me the impression they really don't give a fuck. They come off as very slapdash about the motu brand anyway
