OP didn't mention that NECA is running three weeks of preorders for TMNT this month with new stuff listed on Friday. The preorder window is 10 days so you might want to wait to see what week 2 has in store this Friday before you order what you want from week 1.

it makes sense to respond to store shortage with direct preorders.. but it still feels less than ideal. Hopefully in the next few years we really hammer out this retail-optional world we'll hopefully find ourselves in.
It's difficult to be in the position of "I want products to be available at a decent price years later even if I don't find out about it when it comes out" while the company is obviously in the "We want to sell all the ones we produce in a timely fashion" mindset, and unlikely to budge from that.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if there's a large number of collectors that only have the TMNT figures that NECA has released on their online storefront. Some people just can't or aren't willing to do the bullshit legwork to find brick-and-mortar exclusives.

yea, we are definitely in a weird position these days with retail. and its not really even clear if the shortage of figures is neca or retailer's fault, then you also have to factor in scalpers.
the POs are a good idea for items if they've "sold out" in stores, and it helps give the finger to scalpers. speaking of, i find it weird that, there are POs for rat king happening and yet the scalpers continue to scalp the set for $100+. do you guys predict that even after these POs, that sets like rat king will still be sold on ebay for double the price?

i dunno if its comparable to the stock thing, but i think stores should do things like limit the # of items per customer, there should be one set street date for releases and all stores should follow that date without exception. though, this stuff is hard to enforce. but its an idea.

Also she was very picky with her men, it wasn't so much that she couldn't get one but she couldn't get one she liked.
I rewatched the pizza monster episode recently because of the reveal and she had a Italian guy who was head over heels for her but she wanted none of it.

Speaking of the cartoon though I wonder when they'll do human Baxter, he appeared a lot in the early seasons and of course was very prominent in a lot of episodes so I can imagine he'll be far off.

I would actually argue the opposite. Fly Baxter is still available in the Splinter 2 pack and was released recently-ish.

I'd say he's at least a year off - they'll do a human baxter two pack with a repaint of fly baxter once the baxter/splinter 2 pack is hard to find.

Nah that's the device that both controls them and shrinks them but it got broken by Donnatello who hit it into the water.
They try using it on them and it briefly works but goes flat because "the batteries are wet".
The turtles beat them by cutting some power cords and electrocuting them and funny enough they kept the eggs afterwards.

I do like that ones that appeared onscreen during that part were the mirage figures with their long thin necks that sometimes look fine and other times look insane, and movie Shredder who kinda had a gigantic head and an even bigger menpou, but that's how he was in the movie so the figure didn't make any error. As a kid I concluded that it must have just been too uncomfortable to wear a menpou that clings close to the face, like in the cartoons and comics, and that was also why it had grating in it for ventilation.

You would melt the entire figure to the bare plastic, which I assume is not the point. Every millimeter of the figure is painted, those cel shading effects are a layer of paint on top of more paint, not a layer of paint on molded plastic.

100%. It's layered. Here's a quick example from my Leatherhead, most of the shading is on the base colour, but I added an arrow to point out the spot under his arm where you can see the two layers blended a little bit because the bottom wasn't fully dry before the top layer was added.

Upside, there's a lot of man hours that go into these toys. Downside, you can't easily remove the cel shading, you would probably have to repaint it either way.

Oh you're right. Although... I'm not sure that's 100% proof that the cel shading is added on top of the base paint color. What I think I'm seeing there is a -translucent- orange pixel pattern was sprayed onto the yellow and brown part of the vest, and there was a bit of misalignment. I don't actually see any shading on the vest there, i don't know if it did have that and we're just seeing the back or what.. but you CAN see shading on his arm, and what appears to be a third color where the two -overlap-, not blend. Which actually does lend credence to the idea that neither color is a base underneath the other, except in spots where they fucked up

It's definitely possible. Like you said, his arm is three separate colours and they're aligned and blended perfectly, which would suggest it's not layered. Having said that, the spots on his tail are clearly misaligned on my figure here and miss pretty badly.

For my purposes I believe that it's layers, as another example, because there's lighter orange peeking through the middle of the hem of his jacket bottom in the same picture there. It's possible you're right though and these are two paint apps side by side and not on top of one another.

Either way, I would still recommend against trying to dissolve the cel shading, because as you can see in that image, there is no bare plastic visible except for inside the elbow joint. Everything is painted on the toon figures, and you'd risk removing all the paint and getting random bare plastic.

They had to fire two staff for scalping so they only let the supervisor answer Neca questions now and only let the vendor touch the box. The entire outfits are removable. Even the plastic hats aren't actually part of the heads. If you get the disguise 4 pack, you essentially are getting a 4 pack of basic, toon colored turtles. Just with seasons 3-6 faces as opposed to the previous figures that had seasons 1-2 faces.

I think the last time I dealt with trying (amd succeeding) in getting a Walmart exclusive was MP Starscream. And for Target, the Python Patrol Conquest vehicle from 25th Anniversary G.I.Joe. I think their biggest flaw was price. Figuarts already cost more than domestic collectibles most of the time, and the cost of importing them makes them less desirable just based on price point alone for what you are getting. If they were available for $25 each I bet they would have done well.

Figuarts have some excellent sculpting, generally anything with a big license behind it they do a good job of IE Dragon Ball, Star Wars. Maybe a different head sculpt on the turtles would have made them more palatable, or some effect parts like those 2012 revoltechs had.

I think some of the marketing designs might have looked this way like on clothing and cups. They don't look too bad, something about them makes the eyes seem expressive. I think it's more the general shape of them, something seems kinda off but I'm not sure what.

Barnes & Noble had them for $50 as regular price. I got them on holiday sale for $35 + the $25% coupon they kept sending. Went back and forth between 2 stores and had 2 seperate emails signed up for the coupons. Got them all for about $27 each.

They're definitely not a $25 figure. If they were barebones with just the main weapon, 1 set of extra hands, it would still be at least $35. Too many parts plus the diecast legs and paint aps.

Yeah. From the knee down the legs are diecast. It helps brings the center of gravity down lower which does wonders for their balance. I kinda wish more toy companies would do this for figures that have a backpack or something else that weighs them down in the back.

Actually you might be in luck since they mentioned the reaction line can give us an idea of what to expect and the "undercover" variants are in that line.
Plus I think those ones get special treatment compared to the other tirtle variants since they were the first ones.

I liked Venus, she was far from the worst character in the show, but I always found it weird that she had a name already but they turtles renamed her (also her new name doesn't even fit with their naming convention).
What I've always wanted to see is a Venus toy but done in the style of the vintage playmates turtles.
