NA is just as about spectacle as they are about providing a quality figure. Their whole schtick has been about showing off just how much they can cram into that small scale so it's really not surprising to see them continually upping the ante with each release. I'd be lying if I said their implementation of the LED and the engineering allowing it to serve double duty as both the gun barrel in alt mode AND light up the chest in bot mode wasn't clever as fuck. Also, the reason they "rot and rust" is because you leave the batteries in them for years and years causing them to leak. Even then, you can clean the corrosion out with vinegar and it will work again since only the terminals are affected. I've even repaired the electronics on several of my old G2 figures by just cleaning the terminals. Didn't have to touch the LEDs or sound boards.

As for the diecast, I get why people would be bothered by it when it's used willy nilly but it can serve a very valid purpose and NA so far understands that. It works great when used for feet because it helps a lot with stability and when it's used only for that purpose, you rarely have issues with chipping so long as you take care of your shit.

LEDs rust out because China rarely plates the wires in nickel and relies on Epoxy/plastic casing as it is cheaper. Also G2 used gallium based LEDs, which have a natural resistance to corrosion.

Where is that 80 USD price coming from? NA hasn't started taking POs or announced the price yet. The unsolicited POs on Chinese sellers are estimating it to be the same as Darius (249 RMB).

I've been looking for a bit for an energon axe that doesn't look like shit for this guy. Does anyone have any suggestion ? I would prefer if it was made for it specifically, like connecting to the arm while the hand is retracted, but as long as it doesn't damage the paint, i don't really mind.

The only one that's not 3D printed is the one that comes with that Hasbro Centurion Drone pack which has some tolerance issue or something idk. The 3P accessories market is pretty much all 3D Prints now due to how fast their turnover is, though unfortunately their quality and toughness still can't replace molded parts.

All the complaining (I'm not saying you guys are wrong) about NA Cyclops' price inspired me to look back at IF Bridge Watcher. I expected it to look super outdated but I feel like it actually still holds its own within the IF-iverse. It goes for well over $100 on the aftermarket these days though (but I guess there are cheaper KO options)

I tried that one. All the handles were way too tight to fit well in Prime's hand. I ended up snapping one in two trying to get it out of his hand. Don't know if I just got a bad one, though, as everything else I've gotten from MW has worked fine.

MMC's should scale fine then. UW Defensor is like a few cms taller than MMC's Bruticus. Toyworld/XTB/Zeta scale is a few heads larger.

IIRC Bridge Watcher was kind of a special release wasn't he? Compared to other IF releases like him he was definitely underpriced at 20$.

So two things:

1. IF is k won to rarely, if ever, do re-releases. Therefore they have a massive latecomers fee. Look at their racing bros and jet fire. They also sell their toys at very competitive prices, like the mirage at 30 dollars with rubber tires, or the recolor racing bros twin pack for 45.

2. PT still produces an incredibly undervalued KO of him for 10 dollars plus shipping on eBay, aliexpress, etc. The only knock offs of newage I know of is the Bumblebee and Jazz ones, and those are incredibly cheap quality.

So the final price for NA Cyclops at ShowZ (and probably other similar Chinese sellers) is $55 with free shipping. Not out of line at all with their previous offerings in my opinion.

I'm just getting into NA. SoundBlaster (Dr. No) and Soundwave (Scaramanga) reeled me in, and I just ordered their Hotlink. The price is a little more than I'd like to pay, but...they're great figures. Feel amazing in my hand.

And, you know, this thought hit me while I was thinking about Seekers, it's not like Hasbro has made it easy to lay hands on CHUG Seekers at a much better price. NA costs a bit more, but I can order it pretty easily compared to my earlier attempts this year to get any ER CHUG Seekers or Soundwave.

I'm willing to pay a little more if it means actually getting a figure without hunting and settling on two-packs.

For real, they can go fuck themselves with this exclusive shit. Had to pay an extra $30 each for the scalper tax to get my hands on the Thundercracker/Skywarp 2-pack as well as Thrust. Stung less for the 2-pack because it's only $15 extra a piece but for Thrust is basically doubled his price.

I'm just glad that I personally haven't been interested in any of the exclusives yet (Pit of Judgement would have been nice but I can live without it) but I'm just waiting for them to unveil SS86 Snarl as like a fucking Red Card exclusive or something since apparently those have been the absolute worst for people to find.

The more I see of this with knowledge of its retarded price point and lack of accessories, the more I’m thinking I might give the Magic Square one a chance instead. Not him, but something worth bearing in mind: Newage are done to a slightly smaller scale than Magic Square, and have a heavy emphasis on animation proportions. Magic Square makes more “idealised” figures with big blocky proportions, but until very recently their releases were made with a nylon plastic that you’ll either love or hate. Newage tends to use more traditional materials like ABS and even some diecast, and their paint apps tend to be sharper, although Magic Square is starting to close that gap.

Yes but it's also been used regularly in toys since the 80s. Almost every HasTak mainline TF in the last decade uses Nylon for the joints, connecting the ABS parts. You can identify Nylon from its dull, waxy and grainy surface.

I like the look and feel of the nylon personally, and mainly I think the natural matte finish nylon has is a good analog to the kind of muted look the cartoon had with its colours.

That said, as someone how owns most of their stuff, you can really tell which MS release is good and which one is half assed. Like something like Soundwave, Optimus, ESPECIALLY Megatron, they really go out of their way to make sure all the ejection marks are hidden by design and they clean up all the flashing they can, but then you get to the lazy releases like Bumblebee where they pratically pop it out of the mold and straight into the box.

It's pretty cool. He's an expensive motherfucker for something you need a phone app to control though. If he were in the ballpark of like 300$ or something I'd have liked to get it, but it's pretty obvious why it's so expensive.

Design-wise I actually like the idea of using part of the front bumper for his midsection stripe, but I don't think that's something you could pull off on something with a cleaner overall design, that's only the kind of thing you could get away with on something with a bit of a janky aesthetic like this.

I thought Slag was actually better than Snarl but then Swoop happened. Then Grimlock happened. Then those shitty fembots happened... It just kept getting worse and worse until finally they capped things off with Snarl and honestly, he was an upshot compared to much of what came before him. The only real problem with him was the hood that you literally cannot get rid of in bot mode, which admittedly is a pretty big fuckup when you consider it just needed like one more joint to clean it up, like the designer just fucking forgot about it or sent the wrong CAD files to machining and it was too late to do anything about it before they started. It's one simple ugly thing that makes an otherwise solid figure look incredibly unfinished. Still, he was way better than Grimlock and Swoop and it goes without saying, the lazy fembots, plus his little buddy bot was the first and only one from the entire team that I actually liked, let alone didn't outright hate, though I still found the idea to be overall a waste of plastic and an unnecessary price increase. But really, I think the Dinobots were less the downfall of FP and more the set that made me realize that FP just kind of stagnated. They didn't get worse, they just never got better and you really started to see how much their engineering was starting to show its age. I'd say it's a shame to lose them but in all honesty, it isn't BECAUSE they never made any efforts to get better. They almost single handedly kicked off the 3p scene and yet they couldn't really keep up once it got going.

I really like the overall design of MS’s Optimus and if Soundwave is anything to go by having to prep the figures to be fully painted seems to eliminate or otherwise cover up the issues I have with their materials. I think NA’s Optimus will probably end up being better, but I also think with the upwards trend in their pricing I would not be surprised in the slightest if it and their Ultra Magnus end up being over $100 each. At that point I’d rather just pay a little extra and get an MP-10 from Mandarake. I might well be done with Legends if the prices keep pushing up like this.

I live in east europe, we never got the shows, we only had half the US comic printed in random order, and this was one of the few figures they actually released here. And the toy didn't look like a Transformer, it was more like a GI Joe in a robot suit that could sit on a plane/sled that turned into a clunky suit of armor. Also this was circa 1994, and that toy did not look out of place at all next to blue/red/green dinobots or shit like air propelled rocket blaster Optimus Prime.

Get a little metal nail and a pin vice (which is a small hand drill for hobbies.) Drill down into the ball a little bit and glue the pin into it. Then drill up into the post and put the pin into it, then glue the two parts and the pin together. The pin should be strong enough to rebuild the post, anchoring the two parts together and allowing you to move it again without snapping, and be pretty invisible.

The worst thing you can do is try to wedge the ball out before fixing it, because you'll do more damage to it. If you post pics we can help you more.

I've had to do this same thing before myself with one of my PE Dino Fembots, and it holds up well. You might also get some silicone shock oil as well to loosen up the joint to prevent it from snapping again soon. You can always clean it out later if it ends up floppy, but you need to be able to move the joint around smoothly without it sticking while you're repairing it.

Alright lads, here is where i'm at so far. The hole I drilled on the 'wing' is a bit off so I'll need to widen it. I tried testing the bond with generic super glue I had on hand but it came off very easily despite drying. Will probably need something stronger to keep it together.

Hmm yeah that's kind of off center, but you should be okay. Get some of that Loctite Gel superglue and put it in the hole when you get it. Superglue will help you build up material inside the hole, which will let you adjust the position of the metal piece.

I need help regarding MB-15 Naval Commander. I am aware of MB-15's issues around his chest area, and I am aware that back in February(I think) Fans Hobby said they were working on fixes. I preordered MB-15 on March 28 and he arrived in my BBTS Pile of Loot on April 16.

Now my assumption is that these fixes that Fans Hobby made would be used for future builds and releases of the figure. I also saw on their site that the 2nd PreOrder starts shipping "End of April 2021". So I would assume that this 2nd Preorder would have these fixes built in.

Now I'm wondering, is my copy the original with the issues and I'll be better off canceling it and re-preordering it to get one from the second wave, or did they actually end up shipping the 2nd wave ahead of schedule in early April so that my copy is one from the second wave, so I don't have to worry about it?

If someone who knows more about how this stuff works could please advise me, I would very much appreciate it, I fell in love with Armada(and Energon)when I was younger, and I would be devastated if this guy broke on me.

Mechanic Studios is one of MFT's design teams, but some time ago they've started using it as the brand for newer original molds. MFT still exists but they mostly use that front for reissues and KOs now. It's like the relationship between Hot Soldiers and MFT previously, typical 3P/KO smoke&mirrors don't worry about it.

Also adding to the list, Zeta and Cang toys have announced downsized, legends scale versions of their Superion and Predaking combiners respectively.

Not like there’s much in-between when it comes to quality and engineering. Part of the appeal of companies like Newage was that I could afford to collect interesting repaints like Diaclone variants, G2, toy colours, etc without breaking the bank and without taking up much space. damn, that's sucks. Didn't have a problem with the hands on mine, but the left knee from mine is super floppy. Tried screwing it tighter, but it's become loose again after just a day. And I heard of people snapping off the rear view mirrors. And the neck section sucks pretty bad.
Yeah, this release was pretty much a let down. I hope Starscream turns out better...

And yeah the neck is bad, i cant even figure out if im doing the transformation right because the instructions are just 6 pictures that miss out on half of the smaller steps.

Not a fan of the junk he comes with either, so far the other 2 had real nice weapons and customization parts that you could mostly store on the figures, but this guy gets some oversized monopoly pieces, a plastic box that i think is meant to store all the gubbins, and a frisbee that i havent figured out a way to store.

The Frenzy is nice, if not a bit fragile.

yeah, instructions are garbage, I just looked up some youtube videos. Though to be fair I regularly have that problem with 3p.
I did like the idea of the accessories (the big boxy phone is apparently Frenzy's altmode), but I already put them back in the box and they'll probably stay there.
The saw frisbee can be pegged into the back of Barricade's hand and you can actually pull the spare tire off and plug it in there too.

oh, that's an alternate chestpiece for their bumblebee so he can have the jeep-chest. I don't think the transformation really works with it though. And I'd honestly be too scared to pop out the old chest piece. Also basically useless if you have the wrong colour of Bumblebee.

I got it. While the upgrade itself is good I'm wholly disappointed with the Devastator itself. Too shambly and can hardly strike a pose without disintegrating itself. My biggest problem is the hand. Scrapper is too short and the other two is too damn long.

Planet X's Vulcan if you want something biggish. No good Legends sized ones, and no good MP ones either. Every one has some kind of glaring flaw or they're just shitty figures, or both. Which is real surprising given how goddamn simple Grimlock is as a figure most of the time.

The least shit option is horrendously overpriced and literally tears it's own paint off due to shit design (Fanstoys) and I cannot recommend it. It's Grimlock, one of the most popular characters, just wait and eventually someone will put out a perfect version.

DX9's Grimlock wasn't half bad. It's pretty hard to find at this point though.

It's also to my knowledge the only Grimlock that actually hides the hanging dino head in robot mode which is cool.

Just watched a review because you said that. Pretty cool. I wish companies would be a little more innovative, it seems like all the different dinobot designs are essentially the same thing, barely improving on the original toys other than better articulation.

I'll second the Studio Series one. It's not technically big enough for MP scale but if you want something that can fit along side chug or shake hands with your MP10 it's good enough scale-wise. Design-wise it's unironically about as good as a Grimlock can get.

Yeah, I knew about the Coneheads for certain, it was just Acid Storm (and was there Sun Storm too?) that I was iffy on. After seeing line after line over the course of a decade at TRU, it all just sorts of bleeds together.

I'm sure something could have been done, but with the way the G1 seeker's crotch is like a V shaped diaper with the cockpit slotted into it the top of the V they would have\had to put a big ugly cut somewhere in either the crotch or the cockpit like the Maketoy's or Newage seeker. I think for once they just opted for a clean sculpt for torso instead, which I honestly don't mind because I never liked the split cockpit thing a lot of recent seekers have done.

Either that or the diaper would have had to have been designed like a cup internally for everything to be able to rotate in, which probably wasn't really feasible with all the seeker crap they have to have packed up inside him.

I can live without a waist swivel anyway, the rest of the figure looks poseable enough as is and it's a geewun MP that actually looks good and clean instead of being a gappy inside-out shit show

There's only one way you're ever going to get reasonable strength and usability out of that ball again. Using a screw. Preferably one long and thin, like the kind of thing you can scavenge from old computer parts.

There's no amount of gluing or pinning that will resist the torsion on that ball joint now that the plastic itself has been compromised. You need a physical solution.

Pop out the ball.
Super glue it back on the post.
Once you have it in place, use a pin vise to drill down through the ball, into the shaft (lol) making a hole as large as your screw, as centered as you can.
On the top of the ball joint, hollow out a small area for the screw head. Make sure it doesn't exceed the ball at that point and affect the ball joint movement.
Once you've got a good test fit, squirt a tiny bit of super glue gel in there, screw in the long screw, and let it dry.
Optionally, you can epoxy/putty over the screw and/or paint it, if you're depesrate.
