>>8952613I may be able to help. I was kinda like you. I’d always seen Ultraman kaiju and was interested, but the 50 year history was intimidating. We happened to buy a new tv last year, and one of the bonus channels was Shout Factory. They play Ultraman all day long on Tuesday, and now I’m hooked.
I’m a huge Showa era fan in general. If you are also, then I’d suggest starting at the beginning with Ultra Q. It’s like if the X Files were made for kids, and there’s always a kaiju or alien. There’s no Ultraman, but a lot of the kaiju come back in Ultraman. It’s also not necessary to understanding the story, but it’s a wonderful little show.
Other than that, all the Showa era Ultraman shows were made for kids. So even if you watch a random episode from a random season, you’re not going to be too lost. All of the Showa era series are weird and wacky in just the right ways. My personal favorite is Ultra Seven though.
I haven’t seen a lot of the newer series yet. Those are more serialized, so it’s harder to jump into the middle of a season. So start from the beginning if you go with one of those. My personal favorite is Geed, then probably Ultraman X.
Hopefully that helps a little.
