The trick is, to go to 6 different Targets, 3 stores a day in rotations. Eventually you luck out an find all the new waves and deluxe figures. Not to mention hitting the Walmarts inbetween to see if thye put out that one case of MOTWWE. That way you can cancel your BBTS order that still hasn't shipped when they said it would ship.

Its a shame we missed out. If she had been the only vintage non-PoP female Hordesman, I wonder if today Octavia would be treated as the Horde counterpart of Teela and Evil-lyn, just by virtue of being the only game in town.

How do you think this concept compare to the cartoon version?
And would you buy this toy?

The first half is pretty bad. Tries really hard to be super dark and edgy, and then Orko goes evil.

The second half, however, is pretty damn good. The Eternia War is awesome, Teela and Evil-Lyn become goddesses, Hordak takes the power to become the Master of the Universe before Skeletor takes it, finishing off in an epic battle between him and He-Man, just as it should be. King Hssss is also really freaky and monstrous.

Vs Thundercats was pretty neat, it’s exactly what you would think a crossover between the two would be.

Vs Injustice was great, with Darkseid storming Eternia to take the power of Grayskull. It’s kind of hilarious how every time He-Man fights Superman, Superman always loses.

Multiverse was also a lot of fun, with a great use of Anti-Eternia stuff. Although I was a little disappointed with the ending.

I hate "really dark and edgy" so I may skip it. Where does it start to turn good? Eternia War sounds sick, and all that stuff sounds pretty awesome. I don't care about the crossovers, Thundercats sounds cool but the DC universe has lost my interest outside of isolated stories.

I'm mostly in it for more He-Man and the characters worldbuilding, I really really enjoyed the feel and characterization of 200X (altho a lil too heavy on the tech for me) so I'm interested in checking it out. Probably will look at Eternity War, since that's collected but MUCH cheaper

What the trades called volume 3.

It’s a bit weird. Volume 1 was originally a six issue miniseries, and that was where it tried the hardest to be dark and edgy, but it is mostly self contained series. Volume 2 is a collection of online comic oneshots that go more into the histories and characters of this version. Then vs DC sort of finishes up everything hanging, and volume 3 starts fresh (it was even the start of a new ongoing series), and that’s where it get good, exploring Adora as Despora, more of the Horde stuff, Hordak is completely different than any other version of him, and probably the most evil and awesome.

There's actually a lot in Multiverse that rubs me the wrong way, starting with New Adventures being its own closed universe rather than a continuation of, um, old adventures.
However, I love that there was a universe that addresses where He-Man's gear goes when he gets new action figures.

This rankled me...because you know the only rationale was "can't touch the sacred cows, but feel free to shit over the unpopular one". I'm not even a fan of NA over all, but I don't know, I just hate the attitude.

Sure. I just showed you their very first page. On the next, Filmation Prince Adam gives exposition:
Anti-He-Man has been going from one universe to the next killing He-Men for their Power Swords, pursued by Anti-Keldor. Filmation He-Man survived and Filmation Man-At-Arms got learned enough about the "Gravitonic Tone Manipulator" from the movie to travel to a parallel universe, finding these guys.

The last we see them, Anti-Keldor is expositing to Lyn and Red Beast that Filmation He-Man carefully chose which members of He-Force to send to the universes where He-Man was killed. Battle Armor Black-Man was made protector of Movie Castle Grayskull, Flying Fistina replaced modern DC He-Man, the mobile game universe got... Bobby the Barbarian from the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon? And the writer and artist are coy about where humanoid Cringer, Thunder Punch Hi-Ra and the Laser Power man went.

The chibi is stupid as hell, but I love the idea that He-Man would remember that sharing is caring by passing his harness, axe, original shield, battle armor, Thunder Punch backpack and shield and Flying Fists gear carrying Power of Grayskull on to Cringer and his closest human friends.

Battle Armor guy is He-Sol, after the Afro-American vintage knockoff Sun Man.
I like to believe Hi-Ra (Thunder Punch girl) is Teela. She's worn a fur-and-metal bikini before and changes hair color.
Tina is named after Tim Seeley's daughter. I'm not digging into his personal life to find out how old she was last year, but I'd like to believe she'd be in the 4-11 age range if Mattel gets around to making a figure of her.
The guy with a brunette crewcut head on Laser Power He-Man's body is Platino. Seeley SAYS he's a homage to the Argentine vintage toys, but I can't see how.
And humanoid Cringer is "Zak the He-Cat", because "Thundercringer" or "Green Tigra" would cause legal trouble I guess?

They're not going to do Origins Widgets, so scratch out He-Wo right away. He-Cat, Hi-Ra, He-Sol and Platino would all be super-easy Origins figures once they get around to making Thunder Punch He-Man, and that's the order of how much I'd want them. Tina is great too but would need a female muscle cuirass torso with the H symbol.
Platino is a total non-entity. Pass.

Goddess was originally created in the mini comics. She’s basically a proto-Sorceress/Teela. She’s the one who also gave He-Man his weapons, and essentially his purpose in the story.

This was back when he was basically just a barbarian/jungle man with a sense of justice, but no powers. The harness the Goddess gave him is where his super strength comes from. She was also the one who split the original power sword in half so that only the whole sword could be used to open Grayskull.

Early on, Mattel was worried that boys wouldn't want multiple female figures, so a compromise was made that Teela and Sorceress were made into the same figure. Teela would be the figure without the snake hood, and Goddess/Sorceress would be Teela with the snake hood.

It wasn't until Filmation that they made the Sorceress look like the version everyone's more familiar with.

The funny thing about the widgets is that their roots lie in the Halperin bible talking about various generic fantasy races, in this case dwarves. The original premise of the episode that would become "Evil-Lyn's Plot" was about her ingratiating herself into a community of miner dwarves who had uncovered a very precious lodestone, and funny enough this early draft for the episode was apparently sent out along with a couple of other early drafts to be adapted into a text story in the first MOTU annual in the UK. The story in that book is called "the Lodestone of Iron Fortress" and features dwarves rather than widgets, but otherwise has the same general premise (with less comedy).

Filmation must have really fucking liked the widgets over a more serious dwarf archetype because not only did the widgets ´keep coming back in new episodes but in Princes of Power they had a similar race in the Twiggets who were in a LOT of episodes.

The short answer is Mattel didn’t want to make two different female figures, so they used the same design for both, but ended up only making Teela. She’s had the Goddess’ armor ever since.

The mini comics also adjusted and colored Goddess in flesh tones instead of green. Eventually they’re establish the Sorceress character and just make Teela a warrior.

OK, here we go. When I got this from Amazon it was $17.57, and that's great value for the content.
The first thing you notice is that it's huge: a hardcover (no dust jacket) about 14 inches tall. Each two-page spread covers a week of story: either 5 rows of 3-panel daily strips, or an 8/9 panel Sunday strip and a daily.
A Masters of the Universe newspaper comic was proposed by Mattel in 1986 as a way of advertising new toys they were producing after ceasing funding of the Filmation cartoon in favor of She-Ra: Princess of Power. Gerald Forton drew the comic throughout its run, with a first story arc written by Jim Shull and all subsequent ones written by Chris Weber with his wife Karen Willson as editor.

My reviews of each story arc:

DAY OF THE COMET
This story establishes that we're looking at a direct continuation of the Filmation cartoon: the Royal Palace is that distinctive polygonal dome, Skeletor flies around in the Collector (flown by henchmen Two-Bad and Spikor), and when Hordak shows up, Shadow Weaver is with him.
The new characters being advertised are the Rock People, with the plot turning on Stonedar being forced to redirect a comet to hit Eternia by Hordak holding his children hostage.
We get off to a good start. Both the newspaper comic and the 1986 mini-comics were set in the Filmation continuity but started off telling contradictory stories: He-Man can't meet the Rock People for the first time here and also in "Rock People to the Rescue!" This version is just better. It doesn't cover characters who weren't already being advertised in She-Ra and plot points turn on quite suspect interpretations of their signature pacifism by Rock People, but still, 4/5.

VENGEANCE OF THE VIPER KING
Prince Adam visits a place called Thamalia Tower, where a storm knocks down a wall to reveal a serpent hologram hidden for thousands of years. Snake Mountain is close enough that the storm also knocks down a dungeon wall covering a portal to Etheria, which Rattlor and Tung Lashor walk out of. They make their way to a deeper level of Snake Mountain than Skeletor has been using and free King Hiss. Unlike the vintage mini-comics, he frees Snake Face and Sssqueeze from the timeless prison almost as soon as he gets out.
This is the first telling of the Snake Men story where the snake around Snake Mountain comes to life (here called Sarcedon, not Serpos like 200X and Classics). Another notable piece of lore is that King Hiss blames the falcon totem for sealing him away thousands of years ago, rather than "the
Council of Elders" ("King of the Snake Men").
Although there's much more room to tell a story here than its mini-comic equivalent "King of the Snake Men", which was 14 pages of 3 rows of panels, Gerald Forton's art leaves much to be desired relative to Bruce Timm's. He's always going to draw background and original characters as generic medieval or modern humans, and doesn't even want to embrace the weirdness of some of the toys: King Hiss basically looks like Rattlor rather than his upper body being a mass of snakes. Rio Blast is also introduced but never has his guns out.
That said, the King Hiss story is classic Sword and Sorcery material that's hard to get wrong. 4/5.

Have you seen /co/? You can go there if you want. You're underestimating the inextricable ties to the toys that the comics and cartoons have. They're all ultimately for the toys, serve the toys, were molded by the toys. Godzilla toys do not have any such symbiosis with the Godzilla movies, and yet the threads for it here are filled with movie posts, and no one deletes them or warns the posters. You're fighting a losing battle all by yourself.

NINJOR STALKS BY NIGHT
Skeletor hires Ninjor to assassinate King Randor and Prince Adam. The plan sort of works: nobody dies but they do get captured (after Man-at-Arms and Extendar). He-Man fights Ninjor, Scare Glow and Blast Attak for the first time. Ninjor is apparently from the past ("across the eons") and "Tylgar the wizard ... sent him to Eternia." They have planned all along for Ninjor to steal the Havoc Staff from Skeletor.
This arc introduces the council of nobles who run Randor's kingdom, which he makes Prince Adam join. Presumably they were around off-screen when he was goofing around the palace.
Anyway, once king and heir are gone, Skeletor lands at the Royal Palace and says "I hear there's a vacancy on the throne for me to fill." (they don't call him Keldor, though). The climax nicely turns on Ninjor's betrayal, allowing He-Man and the royal family to restore the status quo. 5/5.

TERROR TAKES TIME
The Sorceress discovers that someone is changing the past such that Castle Grayskull is never built (also Skeletor's plan from Filmation's "The Time Tunnel"). She sends Adam millions of years into Eternia's past, when the line's 1987 dinosaurs lived. He meets Eternia's first humans, who are all slaves to Hordak and Mosquitor. They were brought from Etheria in Adora's time to ship all the polydurate on Eternia there, because it's the only material capable of holding the Power of Grayskull. Adam and rebel leader Verona fall in love. He-Man forces Hordak and Mosquitor to flee in their ship, stranding the miners on Eternia, where they'll have to fight unspecified Snake Men to survive.
I love that Eternia has existed for millions of years, something never confirmed elsewhere. "The Powers of Grayskull" mini-comic says He-Man is going "back to Eternia eons before you were born!", but King Hiss et al are there, making it logical to assume "eons" is only thousands of years.
There's a boneheaded continuity mess-up with "Tylgar" from the previous arc, but I'll say 5/5.

EVIL UNDER THE STARS
Starting in September 1987 (as best as I can tell), this arc introduces the movie characters who got toys. Blade arrives in the town of Ettlain, and Teela and some royal guards come to fight him. He knew her before she was Captain, calling her "old friend."
Meanwhile, He-Man helps Man-at-Arms and a character named Miranda with an anti-gravity coil, which is revealed to be Gwildor's invention, and that he's living in Ettlain. Evil-Lyn is also there, disguised as a female of Gwildor's species named Thalia. She's called Blade and Saurod there to discuss a plan to get away from Skeletor and conquer Blade's home planet of Merrian for themselves. Stealing a MacGuffin from Gwildor, they retreat to Snake Mountain, where Beast Man (now looking like the movie version) wants to leave too. "Thalia" gets "rescued" from the other villains as they take a magic portal to Merrian, so she connives to be made a crew member of Eternia's first starship, which will send He-Man to Merrian to defend that "no magicians" planet from Evil-Lyn, whom Randor's council falsely believes is already there.
I like the twists and turns this plot takes, but Eternia gaining interstellar travel is a game-changer that needed to come with intelligent world-building... and it won't. If the Horde is a galactic empire that Eternia is magically protected from, how do Merrian and Gwildor's planet Thenuria fit in? 4/5.

ATTACK ON SNAKE MOUNTAIN
In one of Castle Grayskull's subterranean levels, He-Man finds a long-lost door under an enchanted stone falcon, similar to the door sealing King Hiss' timeless magic prison.
At the palace, Gwildor is hanging out with Orko and wonders if he could explain both science and magic with a "unified field theory." Meanwhile Duke Tiberon (introduced in "Ninjor Stalks by Night"), the Prime Minister, flips out and decides that Snake Mountain must be destroyed so they can live in peace. He convinces Clamp Champ to attack Snake Mountain with one royal guard. Also, Miranda gets to stay at the palace because her home kingdom Rondale appoints her their ambassador to Eternos.
The Sorceress summons He-Man, telling him that the balance of magic on Eternia is a delicate one that requires Snake Mountain to exist for Castle Grayskull to exist and that the door he found leads to the Heart of Eternia.
Evil-Lyn, Beast Man and Skeletor come to the Swamp of Smokes between Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain (a location introduced in "Vengeance of the Viper King"), where Clamp Champ is walking through a tunnel below. Eventually Eternia's magic flows into Skeletor and He-Man. He-Man wins the fight, but his personality has changed: he now says "I AM the Power" and declares himself beyond good and evil. He has to be talked down to not execute Skeletor and become purely good again.
Power beyond good and evil coming from an underground location between Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain? Does this remind anyone else of "The Ultimate Battleground" mini-comic? While I'd have loved acknowledgement of the Towers, this is all about character development rather than just showing off a playset. 5/5.

REVOLUTION IN RONDALE
Weber is done introducing new toys: from here on our cast of heroes shrinks to the Filmation core group plus Miranda, and sometimes Gwildor or Clamp Champ. Skeletor's only henchmen will be Evil-Lyn, Beast Man and Whiplash.
In this arc, Miranda returns to Rondale to defuse a rebellion by her old boyfriend Prince Nicholai against the heir Corwin and Queen Dowager Elisa. Prince Adam, Teela and Duncan join her as King Randor's emissaries. Skeletor is acting alone in disguise to foment the rebellion.
Here we go into some detail about how the monarchy at Eternos rules the planet through a feudal system, with a bunch of countries that have kings under High King Randor. This becomes an excuse for a plot out of an Edgar Rice Burroughs novel or newspaper adventure comic of the early 1900s. It doesn't feel like a MOTU story, despite Weber taking care to make sure it doesn't contradict anything. 3/5.

THE TIME OF DISASTERS
Gwildor's research equipment has nasty side effects of messing with He-Man's power, disrupting Eternia's weather and making a hole in the magic barrier that was protecting Eternia from the Horde. Oddly enough, this results in Hordak coming alone. He goes to a tavern and offers a mission to Robert, the royal guard who was Skeletor's spy in "Attack on Snake Mountain." The Sorceress finds a prophecy that events like these will be followed by disasters from the sea and firmament. He must face these with his friends without her restoring his power to normal, because she has to concentrate on maintaining Eternia's dimensional barrier. In fact, she has to ask Skeletor to combine their power to do it!
He-Man losing his strength and the Sorceress not being able to fix him is an interesting twist on the formula. And needing to team up with Skeletor was a welcome plot point in the occasional Filmation episode. But the hole in the magic barrier is underexplained. Why is Hordak going to a tavern to be a generic fantasy quest-giver? 3/5.

Eternia now has TV and news reporters. Also Evil-Lyn says she's gone straight and wants to sell cosmetics. Even Man-at-Arms gets dropped from the cast for this strange arc, and only Skeletor and Evil-Lyn appear as villains.
Again, Weber swipes a plot from another genre. How many superheroes had an issue where a villain fake-reforms in the 1940s alone? 1/5.

IT'LL BE A COLD DAY
He-Man, Man-at-Arms and Miranda visit one of the Northern Isles. Scrying on them, Skeletor finds historical figure Iandir the Ice Empress in a glacier and decides to thaw her out. Apparently Snake Mountain has a better library than the island, because Iandir gives the locals her name and is treated like an honored guest rather than an ancient evil trying to return to power.
Duncan's hair and mustache start turning white and when Iandir is defeated, he and Miranda get engaged.
The most interesting details in this arc are that Castle Grayskull has stood "for all of recorded history" and when one of Iandir's ice spiders attacks, Man-at-Arms estimates they've been extinct 20,000 years. This is a much longer history than Filmation or later Classics established, where the oldest history was "thousands of years ago" (King Tamusk and the Silkon civilization) and Preternia ended <5000 years ago, respectively (plus this has the much longer prehistory I already talked about). 3/5.

A WORLD IN THE BALANCE
After an all-He-Man adventure, we get an all-Adam one. Adam convinces Randor that he's actually done enough work (the recurring theme of handling matters of state with the council) to earn a vacation. Gwildor convinces Adam to vacation on another planet, Naxos. Orko comes along. Of course they get stranded and have to fight a deadly Naxos animal, with solar flares preventing the starship from contacting Eternia.
It's pure Man Against Nature, with no villain. He-Man leaves Battle Cat, Clamp Champ and Ram Man to patrol Eternia, but that's just a precaution. 3/5.

AT THE EDGE OF DARKEST NIGHT
At this point, even the Sunday strips are in black & white, the original colors seemingly lost to time. The compilers also failed to find one Sunday strip of this arc, so they print Chris Weber's summary: "Clamp Champ gets tripped up by an opossum and tracks the villains' footprints."
Adam, Teela and Clamp Champ (whose job title seems to be up in the air, since he was once the king's bodyguard and was last seen under He-Man, but now Captain Teela) are called to Far Westland by a female trooper (returning from the Evil-Lyn cosmetics arc, where she got the idea that He-Man was broke and needed charity). Skeletor and Whiplash are trying to revive the stone army in an archaeological site. Imagine Clamp Champ being around for a Filmation story and that's pretty much how it plays out... except that Eternian TV reporters are back, bluh.
The most interesting lore this time is when a character named Kartan shows up and seems to know Adam's secret identity. He says “the royal family of Eternia wielded the power of Grayskull a long time". There's no evidence that Randor did so in his youth, but maybe Weber was working from a 1987 story bible where Miro wielded it and the son drama deprived them of worthiness? Despite the reporters, I'll call it average just for feeling like a Filmation story and adding to the lore: 3/5.

HE-MAN IN WONDERLAND
In the palace library, Adam tries to find information on Kartan from last story but any relevant volumes got checked out. He reads one of the books Queen Marlena had on the Rainbow Warrior: "Alice", of course.
Skeletor is making Whiplash clean Snake Mountain's library and decides to cast a spell at long range to trap He-Man in whatever book he's reading. Bizarrely, the Sorceress tells Adam to change into He-Man rather than warning him that he's enchanted with the inconvenience of only being able to read as Prince Adam.
There's a whole week missing this time.
Good grief, 1/5.

SHAKEN TO THE CORE
As earthquakes rock Eternia, the Sorceress asks Orko to guard Castle Grayskull while she gives up her power to go out among the people and see if she's still worthy of her job, because she has to magically renew her vows every 5 years, and that's coming up in less than a month. She reveals this plot point to Orko in "the Hidden Hall", where the regalia of her many predecessors are preserved on mannequins: one of them a man in the falcon headdress and feather tunic.
Teela-Na, in a hooded gown and gogo boots, ends up in Rondale, where Miranda sped off with He-Man and her fiance Duncan to help her people. She runs across the person responsible for the earthquakes: a supervillain code-named the Faultmaster who dresses surprisingly like the Golden Age Green Lantern! He tries to convince Teela-Na of his goal of bringing tectonic activity to an end so Eternia can be a world without destruction is just, but when He-Man shows up he decides to kill him to end the violence between him and Skeletor. So the Sorceress uses the Power of Grayskull to... put him in a bubble. This story ends with bizarre abruptness, not addressing whether he'll be magically trapped eternally in the cave where we last see him, like King Hiss, floated to Eternos to stand trial, or WHAT.
No strips missing.
I like the setup here. The Sorceress having a psychological need to go live with and help people without her powers prefigures the better-known 200X story "Out of the Past". Meeting the Faultmaster with his passionate ideology while she's doubting herself would be interesting if he felt like a MOTU character instead of a 1940s supervillain and Weber hadn't rushed the ending. 2/5.

THE LAST SURVIVORS
On 10-22-1990 our time, Hydron and Flipshot arrive at Castle Grayskull in a time sphere because they need a great hero to save Primus, the last planet of humans, from Mutants. Both He-Man and an unwanted Skeletor get in the time sphere.
This version of the New Adventures story shows He-Man saying goodbye to Teela, Man-at-Arms and Orko before leaving, with Orko casting an illusion to pose as Prince Adam until he comes back in the time sphere. Skeletor is shown leaving Beast Man behind at Snake Mountain.
On Primus, He-Man meets Master Sebrian, who traps Skeletor in a magic bubble and tells He-Man to throw it to the moon. He protests that he won't murder Skeletor by suffocation, but Sebrian assures him that Primus's moon is livable. Uh, so it's all your fault that the Mutants recruit Skeletor...
Mara is introduced, and the Mutants shown are Flogg and Lizorr. Other toyline villains were probably shown as extras, but this arc is where almost all the missing strips are.
Primus defeats Flogg's space fleet while He-Man and Skeletor fight to a draw on the ground. Mara ends the fight by running up and reading Skeletor a fragment of Eternian history that says Evil-Lyn, Ninjor and other villains took over Snake Mountain. The two enemies travel back to Eternia a week after they left, when Adam relieves Orko of his deception by revealing his secret to Randor and Marlena.
THE END!
I was glad that almost all the missing strips were in this arc, because it's just an inferior version of the core New Adventures story beats. The cartoon deserves to be the standard version... yes it has the horrible scientists, but it also has the Crita and Skeletor's relationship! Plus of course all the characters from the toyline, not just He-Man, Skeletor and four others. 1/5

Keep in mind that when MOTU was conceptualized and designed in 1980-1981, the US and most of the world was still in the throes of a huge resurgence of popularity of the fantasy genre, heralded by such successes as Marvel's Conan comic book in 1971 and the publication of Dungeons & Dragons in 1975. When you asked somebody in 1980 about what they thought about when you said "fantasy world" and they would probably bring up Dungeons & Dragons, Lord of the Rings and Conan as examples, and a lot of people working on MOTU were clearly into this. Larry DiTillio was an RPG author before even starting at filmation and Halperin and others seemed very interested in it as well. So eternia started out as more D&D fused with Conan than it eventually became.

Like I said, I have no problem with you discussing the fiction. It comes with the territory of having a board related to media tie-in products. I get it. But the guys in the Star Wars General don't go on about the EU books and comics. Hell, the Marvel General don't even do that and Marvel toys are literally based on comics. The tie-in media wasn't literally made to sell toys like MOTU and Transformers were. If anything, they have more of a reason to talk about the fiction than you do. But they don't. You don't see literal walls of text talking about specifically the comics. Or comic panels posted more than toys.
The problem is when the discussions happening are more about the fiction than toys. I can't state this enough

This is me with MOTUC/Origins in general. I only have a few Classics but they're clearly so much better I can't downgrade. Origins looks fun but the kitschiness of the retro toy molding just doesn't hit with me, maybe because it looks softer than the actual vintage line in some respects.

Just got Skeletor, He-Man and Battlecat in the mail. Really like Skeletor. Love the colors, I think the face looks better than he's given credit. It's a fun figure. Battlecat is nice enough, just the normal ankle complaint. I think he looks good regardless, better without the helmet. He-man's a nice toy, looks good with Battlecat, accessories are fun, but I think he's the weakest between the four I have; Skeletor, He-man, Teela and Evil-Lyn. It's the hair mostly. Not the face, just the hair. It's a merger of both Filmation and the toy and looks a bit off.

The shogun skeletor genuinely feels like the kind of thing mattel would have cooked up for the original line given their history of repurposing gimmicks and molds for motu. That said I cant help but wonder who else would make for a fun shogun master. It'd be neat to see say roboto or mekanek become shogun masters. But my lore boner cant help but want to filter all this through some campy but fun explanation. Something along the lines of roboto being part of the same species as the shogun masters, skeletor corrupting some of them for his own bidding, and the heroic warriors turning greyskull into a kaiju to defeat skeletor's army of shogun masters.

Modulok is usually relatively cheap too. He's too big to pose with most people's standard collections but not big enough where you specifically make space for him like Granamyr, so there's always people looking to offload.

I just can't allow myself to believe that we will get 1, and only 1, toy for all eternity of characters who made they're debut in Classics (that includes the OCs, Filmation, minicomics and concept characters)
Honestly, and I'm not being hyperbolic, if I thought thst Mattel was genuinely going to retire all those characters after only 1 outing and opening up the possible character pool, and then turn around and say "we're going back to only 1982/83 characters, and maybe She-ra, Hordak and easy repaints forever", I'd probably drop all future He-man lines just from the frustration of repetition

This is my biggest gripe with Super7...when thry did a Filmation character, even if it WASNT in the Club Greyskull line, they still just copy pasted the animation model.
Mattel didn't pull thst. Look at this guy, or Plundor. Thry look cartoony, sure, but they also have the required sculpting and paint apps to actually look like Classics.
Hawke, Granita and Dylamug needed that treatment

Yeah unfortunately Kirby had to deal with alot of that kind of abuse in his later years. The one that stands out most in my mind was when ruby spears sold hanna barbera one of his series ideas, and because HB still owned some FF tv rights, they reskinned his show idea with the thing. So instead of just being this entirely original show where a kid could turn into a giant monster hero with two rings, it became a show where "Benjy Grimm" used his "thing rings" to become Thing. Fucking Jack twice over because he wouldnt get residuals from Marvel or HB.

Not to get too off topic, but I recommend reading Tom Scioli's "American Barbarian". It's the closest approximation we'll ever get to a Jack Kirby MOTU comic. It blends in elements from other major barbarian and kirby franchises too (Thor, Blackstarr, Thundarr, Thundercats, etc).

The story I read was DC had Kirby work with Kenner to redesign his characters for the toy line to get the royalties, as a sort of apology work around for the corporate bullshit that didn’t let him give him comic royalties. But that could have been DC revisionist history, since I think that story came from the 4th World omnibuses.

DC published a four-issue mini-series he got royalties for in addition to the action figure ones and she got him to create "The Hunger Dogs" New Gods graphic novel. Though since nothing could be completely positive for Jack, she also commissioned an ending for the original New Gods run where Orion dies... and gets ressurected so other DC writers could continue using him for free.

The figure was out in 2013, this was still when most people thought of Stan as "the creator of Marvel" and "guy who cameos in Marvel movies" while people knowing the real history was starting to grow (Marvel: The Untold Story was only just out the prior year).

I'm the anon you're replying to, and I get where you're coming from, but he's just not a good enough toy design. MOTUC was designed for nostalgic shelf display, always lacking action features.
If they do an Origins Sir Laser-Lot where the trans-red plume light-pipes his eyes like the 1985 Kenner Darkseid? Fine, I'll change my opinion. If MOTUC had the budget to make his blue armor vac-metal? Sure. But as-is, he can't hold a candle to MOTUC Extendar, a knight design in the same line.

Thats the thing. He has a dumb face, and the weak ass rubber tail is lame. Now, if the action feature was achieved like Fisto's feature, with a spring loaded plastic tail, we'd be having a different conversation. But as he was originally, Whiplash is hands down the worst of the 1984 figures, and arguably maybe even the worst vintage Evil Warrior, period.

You fool, Count Marzo in an incredible figure. It’s kind of like that one anon defending Sir Laserlot, except Marzo really is that cool. His sculpt is amazing, especially with how the cape is done. He can store his weapons on him, which is pretty rare for a MOTU figure. Plus, his 200x character was badass, unlike his Filmation version who was just an Eternia fop drug pusher.

Likewise with the NA Mutants. The Four Horsemen really cut loose with those and made awesome figures, especially considering their maligned source. If anything, they fit in perfectly with a Horde collection. I can agree with most of the NA heroes being skippable. Except Mara. Mara is fantastic. She’s like if Slave Leia decided she was going to own the look and make it bad ass.

Eh. He’s kind of boring. Space Val Kilmer with a jet pack isn’t terribly exciting compared to the original Masters or to the NA mutants. I think being almost all blue also adds to the dullness factor. Although he does kind of look like a Centurian.

Never picked up Hydronn either. Again, just felt he was kind of boring, a space snorkeler. I do have Darius. He is also kind of boring.

I need to open Tuskador. He seems pretty neat, just never got around to unboxing him.

Adult Swim and time constraints didn't make Genndy decide Jack should commit omnicide. In the original series, Jack always, always chose helping people in the here and now over taking a chance to go back to the past. The Blind Archers were the first instance of this way back at the start of the first season. If he was just going to go back and undo everything and everyone there anyway, he wouldn't have arrived to the conclusion that the archers should be saved over him going through the portal they guarded.

My only complaint is the paint on teeth looks awkward. I would have preferred his shoulder pads to be more like the classics than the vintage, but that’s pretty minor.

The best Classics Skeletor is the New Adventures one, despite the bloated chest "armor" piece. He still goes around retail price for an unknown reason. I always recommend picking him up. He was my first Skeletor, even.

Well, Filmation didn't really "handle" the Snakemen at all; the faction doesn't even exist in Filmation. (And I'm talking about the Snakes as a group, not specific individuals before some invariably "well, actually"s me)

Which head do you guys prefer?
For a long time, I favored the white eyes becausr that was the one from the cartoon, but I dunno...in recent years I've found myself drifting to the green eyes...

White eyes, because I only had that head of the original vintage one.

However, green eyes is great, too!

White eyes is scary, more inhuman, can be either alien or devil.
Green eyes looks to be either confused, tired, or horrified about his existence. Both of them have a great 40s-60s pulp look to them.
