Our buyers are in their 50s and know nothing of what is actually going on "on the ground", they buy whatever the vendors sell them because they're the ones who do the heavy lifting when it comes to market research.
Our head of marketing is in her late 40s and is in the exact same boat - vendors tell her what they think is best, and she (and the rest of us) execute that.
Now late-40s-markeintg-head doesn't like that situation, so she sends her imps, like me, to scour the internet and figure out what hardcore collectors are talking about so we can figure out how to capture this particular niche.
Now, is the info I get on 4chan of particular importance? Not really. But it does give us a certain idea what brands you seem to like or what lines are shit (and why you think that).
