And how do I stop it?
I'm assuming this is the right place to ask since I see threads about painting gundams and shit. I've made a few pokeball terrariums and my beach one has started growing a spider webby substance on the wood drink umbrella and on the shells on the beach. Has anyone seen this shit before?

Oh god, that's not good, OP. You've got yourself a case of "manosis", as it's been called. You need to get rid of that shit immediately and spray the entire thing down with an aerosol cleaner. If you don't, it'll slowly eat away at the plastic and spread, like a damn virus.

Make a solution of water, Epsom salt, and dish soap. Put it in a spray bottle and mist it over the wood. It will keep anything from growing on it.

also IMPORTANT to anyone doing this, USE DISTILLED WATER ONLY!!! WASH FIGURE THOROUGHLY before submerging. These can go cloudy very fast if impurities are introduced. The one I made for my sister went cloudy one year when I replaced a figure inside it with a better looking one. Changed the water last year and no issues with it yet, perfectly clear.

here is the actual tutorial. it doesnt mention distilled water, so I will STRESS it again, USE DISTILLED WATER. also these beads expand IMMENSELY do not underestimate the growth like I did the first time and wound up with enough wasted beads to fill five more containers. expand just the bottom layer at a time to understand the growth potential in your container.

where you find these beads? just go to a Micheal's, Hobby Lobby, or other arts and crafts store, go to the planting section. They usually have these alongside the foam and other similar stuff for putting in the vase before the plants.

here's what I made for my sister, it's really hard to tell due to being wrapped in rope like a fishing net float, but there is a mom and baby manatee in there. they kinda got lopsided in this pic because my sister had just moved and I never took more pictures after fixing that.

the only way I could find ANY of those threads was using the pics I saved to backtrace them in the few archives left of /toy/ that go back a decent time. Sadly those images in those threads are dead links. Also only one actual thread managed to make it to archive from back in 2016. any others are older then that, and all other threads with these images just had a brief mention of the concept but no major discussion.

Yes, it sucks Nyafuu only has archives after 2015, and I only saw said picture being rarely posted in those custom generals, and they were even barely replied to. Not to mention 2016 - 2017 pictures are no longer able to open in that site.
The other archive site that hosts all boards, archived.moe, doesn't have its searcher enabled. Thus preventing me from seeking past dates of this >>9011632. I can't even search via text by writing some of the stuff posted there. It really sucks, Foolz might have helped but that site was nuked in 2014 methinks.

At any rate, thanks for posting said pictures. I didn't even remember them being from even before 2015.
