I want to make bootleg toys, like the stuff sucklord does. I have no artistic skills, no knowledge of 3d modeling, and no idea where to start. How do I go about this smartly?

you dont need to learn 3d modeling at all if you just want to copy existing things, just learn how to cast polyurethane resin there are hundreds of videos on youtube on this

What if I wanted to make original molds? I'm not sure if kitbashing them out of existing stuff or modeling a sculpt in zbrush, and then somehow getting it manufactured would be the better idea.

I rather liked working with the water extended polyester resin (you literally mix water into the liquid resin and it cures solid).
Use powdered pigments to pre-color the resin based on how it's going to paint it. Aluminum trihydrate was my choice filler.

If you want to mod original sculpts you can use non-hardening modeling clay to add onto sculpts and form details on your own, freeze the part and clay to stiffen the clay, make a new mold of the modded sculpt and then make castings from that. Using a soldering knife you can cut out sculpts and replace the areas with the clay the same way (like ‘battle damage’ effects to a sculpt).

You look up some guides online and then give up before the end of the night. You don't just get to the level of making competent toys, even 5poa 70s stuff without spending months learning how to sculpt and god knows how many more actually learning how physical media like paint works and how to apply it to a toy you'd be handling.
I guarantee you will not actually do anything.

Exactly. Already was a prolific 3D molder and sculptor, but even then the amount of hours and money invested was crazy to get to the point where I can make decent figs.

I just got a Mars 2 (not the pro, the “filter” isn’t worth the extra $70) and these are my first prints. I did a ton of research on what I needed and how to set it up and clean/cure prints tho.

I inhaled a large amount of uncured resin dust after my roommate accidentally knocked a tray I was using over when I didn't have my respirator on.
