Anyone else notice the grainy and translucent plastic used for modern action figures? Some regulations crap or just cheaper to produce? It looks like garbage in my opinion

In my uninformed opinion it's just:
-intentional texture for certain clothes or other materials
-pearlescent effect that has been used to simulate the shine of metals for ages

I think its just the type of plastic used. I don't know where it started happening exactly but 90s toys both look and feel entirely different in materials than the stuff Hasbro and Mattel use these days.

Yes, it's a budget cutting paint process that makes it look grainy, but for some reason, certain people believed it was a miracle cutting edge magical technology because a company who started using it for faces charged $70 for the line.
Unknown to them, that tech was first used on childrens toylines back in the 00s, because a tampograph would have cost more.

I was told that it is because they are made of a cheaper plastic that aren't given a coat of paint, the paint is in the plastic itself while details like faces are printed.

The print instead of paint
Is one thing but the general quality does indeed seem cheaper and lower quality like they were made from an amalgamation of cheap plastic to save money but its all the figures not sure whybor whats going on.

You know what was funny? The fact anyone believed this isn't budget cuts.... well, maybe not for Hasbro, because they still use normal paint apps and the print is actually an additional cost for them.

The grain on the dinosaurs I think is intentional to give the impression of mottled skin/scales. As for the human characters the translucent look of the skin I think comes from them using softer plastic now.
