>>9025603My bad, let me appropriately dumb the point down to your level:
-The amount of apparent left handed people used to be a lot lower when there was a substantial social stigma around it, very little accommodation, and a lot of teachers who literally beat kids until they learned to write and use their off-hand.
-As those things declined and left-handedness became more normalized and accepted, the percentage of the population who were /apparently/ left-handed rose rapidly, eventually leveling out a fairly stable equilibrium.
-One can conclude that percentage of people born left handed never actually changed, it was always around 12%, its just that a lot of those kids had to hid it and force themselves to use their off-hand (which, fun fact: had a high correlation with stuttering and other negative developmental disorders). As those circumstances stopped being the case, those left handed kids in turn stopped feeling the need to do that.
In the same manner:
-Teacher used to notice few to none openly/discernibly trans kids.
-Later, as cultural and institutional expectance and visibility of trans people rose, Teacher anon started to actually notice one or two openly/obviously trans kids in his class.
-Instead of, like an idiot, concluding that “Der Liberal medias” and/or frog-chemicals in the water were “corrupting” “normal” children into becoming trans,
he could instead conclude that there probably used to be a few kids in previous years who identified as trans, but he never noticed them because, they either hid that fact from most people and did their best to pretend to be “normal”when in public, or in a few cases, maybe even presented themselves as the other gender to the one they were physically, but only did so if they happened to have both an appearance and discretion sufficient for them to be able to do that without any of their peers or teachers being able to realize they were born as the other gender.
